DOES GOD NEED BUSH’S HELP?

August 9, 2005

By Peter Fredson

Theodore Roosevelt, he of the “Speak softly, but carry a big stick,” motto, at times rattled sabers, did considerable bullying, and did not hesitate to commit armed forces in dubious circumstances. He also was familiar with ‘yellow’ journalism, exemplified by the Hearst publications and seemed to enjoy the rough-and-tumble tactics of opponents who sought to slander his every move.

He also said: "To announce that there should be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American people."

In all the political infighting the Rough Rider never attacked or restricted the personal liberties of citizens, nor considered himself exempt from legal obligations. He never shirked his personal responsibilities and never denied having made any mistakes. There is certainly no doubt about his personal courage, or his willingness to lead a charge which might have resulted in his death.

His conduct contrasts with that of George W. Bush who, in the opinion of about half the American public, was a cowardly draft-dodger who went AWOL from the commissioned duty that his father got for him. He clings to the egomaniacal view that he has never made a mistake and therefore never has to apologize for any action, regardless of how stupid that action may have been or the dire consequences of his decisions might have been on the entire country.

Bush’s conscience has never awakened, it never seems to bother him, he knows no public shame, and all the death and destruction he has sown by deceit and lies must seem trivial in view of the imperial glory that his actions have bestowed upon him.

It was all worth it.

All those threats, all that saber rattling, all those war dances, all that deliberate misinformation repeated daily for month by himself and his unholy cabinet, are like chaff in the wind...simply blown away, forgotten, gone, nobody’s fault.

Thousands of lives were lost and more are being lost daily, while Bush cuts brush on his ranch at Crawford, Texas in order to rest up from the hardships of being president.

But it was all worth it to Bush and his supporters.

They can visualize the Rapture, the Apocalypse, approaching any day now, and they are deliriously happy. All their foes will soon scream in hellfire, while they themselves will play harps and dance on golden streets and talk philosophy to Jesus and Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson for all eternity. All the corporate executives that stole billions of dollars from the public will be forgiven because in their quest for profit, they meant well.

It will be all so full of wonder, so marvelous, that the cowardly neo-cons will be saved in glory and will be forgiven any little sins that they might have involuntarily committed in their quest to help their creator run the Universe.

Theodore Roosevelt did not exploit flag and country in order to centralize power and channel wealth wholesale into the hands of his cabinet and lobbyist supporters. Nor did he ever claim to have been selected by any deity to lead a fight against evil, while Bush prates incessantly about being selected by his major deity, and claims to talk to him constantly.

This hearing of voices certainly should worry the public about Bush’s mental stability, but yet True Believer supporters shout Hallelujah and Huzzah to every claim of religious superiority, to every threat to kill foreigners who don’t believe that Jerry Falwell and Benny Hinn represent the best that Christianity has to offer.

Bush has never offered to explain if his deity has ever answered him. Bush has never explained if his deity counseled him to invade Iraq and kill 100,000 civilians, steal the oil, build large bases and prepare to make war against other countries.

Did Bush’s God tell him it was okay to declare war, to use Shock and Awe to kill one person while actually killing a thousand “collaterals”? Did Bush’s God tell him that bearing false witness was okay, that destroying the homes and lives of innocent civilians is perfectly okay, or that he needs Bush’s help to run the universe?

Did Bush’s God tell Bush that he wants all Muslims to be destroyed, or all Hindus, or all Buddhists, or all Lutherans, or all those pesky Amish? Because Bush definitely seems to be under the impression that he is some kind of savior, that he personally is so morally pure and perfect that he is entitled to swagger, strut and smirk about his earthly perfection, patience, kindness, charity and other good things.

Did a deity tell Bush that he can discharge any kind of weapon and kill people without personal discomfort, or loss of prestige, wealth or power? Did a deity tell Bush that none of his lying, deceit, aggressivity, preemption, abuse, and torture will ruin his credibility?

Did a deity tell Bush that Karl Rove represents the best of American values, morals, honesty, and bravery?

Did Bush’s deity tell him to “stay the course” or to stop his obscene bellowing, killing and destruction? Does anyone beside a True Believer think that Bush is being counseled by the Supreme Creator of the Entire Universe?

Does any True Believer ever think, even for a moment, that their anointed leader is a liar, a person who issued orders to murder wholesale, or even is simply a self-satisfied ass?
Isn’t there any Christian that thinks that Bush should be impeached, tossed out of office along with his unholy crew?

Isn’t there any Christian who even suspects that Bush sinned?

If not, God help the U.S.A.

  • Not all born-again christians support Bush or belong to the so-called "Christian Right". One prominent example is Jimmy Carter.

    • The "born-agains" use Christianity in order to do their weirdness and their crimes out in the open . It is something they can hide behind like a beard or a mask, they hope you won’t recognize who they really are, and won’t criticise their lack of morals, and their real agendas. Like Bush, he claims God talks to him, but if God is responsible for what Bush is doing then God is a fool.

    • No!!! We need God’s help to get rid of him.
