Attack-Terrorism UK

I was within a couple of hundred yards of the bomb which blew up the London bus - slowly driving in traffic northwards. I kept on going and drove right out of London - my radio kept telling me that the attacks were continuing. Lots of confusion. People walked home because the subway [tube] mainline railways [railroads] and the buses were all stopped - no public transport.

At school in the 1950’s I learned that Muslims make a simple offer to a Christian or a Jew - "The Book or the Sword" - [convert to Islam or die]. To paraphrase Winston Churchill - while democracy is the worst form of government, except all those tried before, - I think I’ll stick with the democracy idea.

While you celebrated [rightly so] Independence Day, July 4th - we just celebrated 60th anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe in London on Sunday - lead by the Queen and thousands of veterans and the rest of the nation. The Queen in open defiance of any terrorist threat drove to the event in an open top carriage and returned to Buckingham Palace in an open topped Range Rover [a large Jeep like vehicle]. No surrender - we will not be moved.

Londoner’s - like their cousins in New York - are stoic in the face of adversity. Where we might differ on many issues, I have no doubt in my mind that most of us would agree that we must go on with what we are doing and never give up.

Western Civilization - the leader of which movement is the United States of America, is an unstoppable juggernaught. I saw a photo of a teenage boy in the Times a while back and assumed by his mode of dress that he was either an American or a Brit. Loud Heavy Metal T-shirt, torn jeans and well worn trainers plus ball cap and a bottle of Coke in hand. I was wrong. The youth in question was in fact living in Terhran Iran where apparently there are or were thousands of such teenagers - grabbing their chance at a little liberty to be what they wanted to be and tuned in no doubt to the Heavy Metal stations of the West. Rock on.

It is the unstoppable Western juggernaught which the extremists in the world of Islam want to stop at all costs. It cannot be done - once the youth of a nation get but a mere taste of such freedom they want more - they will grow up resenting those who have taken their youth away and replaced it with utter boredom. They will in their time take back the liberty which they tasted so long ago in their youth. The fatal blow has already been struck. The Al-Quaidas of this world are doomed to failure - they offer only a return to the 14th century. The West becons.

Best wishes - Clive

[a juggernaught is a very large heavy temple on wheels used in India during special Hindu festivals - once set rolling forward this ’monster’ temple on wheels is unstoppable. The word juggernaught entered the English language from India and is used to describe a very large truck of awsome proportions - the transcontinental type]

  • Dear Clive,

Thank you for posting your heart-felt comments. It’s good to hear you are making do with a tough situation. Being so close to the bombing must have been terrible – I’m glad you’re ok.

I am confident our leaders, President Bush and Prime Minister Blair, will continue the fight against London’s bombers and any terror group that attempts to control free societies by indiscriminately blasting, burning and maiming its civilians.

To me, your prime minister is a hero. When most of Europe was buckling and bending and not sure what to do with Saddam and Iraq, your man was right there, unshakable and determined. His unwavering support of the US and Israel, his clear sense of right and wrong, his love of democracy and his refusal to back down in the face of criticism make him a great leader I will always admire.

I agree with you that once experienced, democracy, liberty and freedom (the core values of Western Civilization) can never be given up. It is a juggernaut, as you suggested. That is precisely why the terrorists are becoming so desperate and so aggressive. They know that if democracy succeeds in Iraq, their ability coerce other Mid-East nations into their way of thinking will be seriously impaired. A free democracy in the heart of Arabia is the biggest threat to their master plan of reestablishing the Caliphate, subduing all non-Muslim peoples and creating a world governed by Sharia (Islamic law).

I mourn the loss of your country people and pray for the speedy recovery of those who were hurt in the attacks.

    Sincerely,

     Equalizer

  • Hi. Reading your message brought to my mind an Italian film starring Alberto Sordi about a guy who was such a fanatic of the american way that he imitated to extremes that were slightly uncomfortable to him as well as folks around him. He enjoyed dreaming about things he didn’t really understand. It also brings to mind the many people from slavic countries who actually immigrated to Italy in recent years because from what they saw on italian t.v. channels they thought life would be a piece of cake, which later they found not so true. It also brings to mind a T.V. ad I saw about 15 years ago of a typical african tribal boy who sees a small airplane fly overhead which bombed his vicinity with an empty bottle of coca cola. He studied the bottle with a sort of curiosity that reminds me of the story of Eve and the apple.
Why does this juggernaught have to export this so called democracy in the form of free enterprise which the common people find fashionable and enjoy dreaming about until they find out that theyr’e only being drained by the vampire elite and participating in the ritual themselves? That youngster in Tehran who was grabbing a little "freedom" by imitating his idols comes from a proud culture as any of us and I doubt he would agree with all the consequenses of the "freedomizing" of his homeland. I’m an american living in Italy. I suppose we’re next on the threat list. I’m seriously wondering who is REALLY behind these convenient attacks. Be sure to read the article "London Bombings and the Class War" by Dave Stratman here on bellaciao....6971.

  • Clive,

Well said. To the Equalizer: excellent comment. I’m an American who lived in Britain for a year. Here’s a copy of the text of a letter I mailed to the British embassy in Washington today:

"I am writing to express my sympathy for those who were killed or wounded in the recent massacres in London. Your countrymen have suffered this outrage with a dignity and determination that is impressive, though not surprising. That Britain continues to do more than its fair share of the hard work in the world is greatly appreciated by free people everywhere.

Through their repeated targeting of civilians, we see the utter depravity of the enemy. No matter how harshly you treat the people who carried out these atrocities, they deserve worse. You have the complete support of the American people."

You’re right about the youth-culture factor, too. It’s no surprise that the jihadists say they are suffering unspeakable torture in G’t’mo when they describe being forced to watch Christina Aguilera videos. Our Marines are getting excrement, semen, urine, and spit hurled at them every day by those animals, even as the Marines feed them special islamic food that costs 1/3 more than what the Marines get. Give the murdering sons of bitches pork chops and beer, that’s what I say.

To that kid in Tehran: fight for your right to party!

Now I’ll pipe down and let the Bellaciao conspiracy-mongers swarm in to explain how W slipped out of the White House under cover of darkness to convince 4 British subjects to commit suicide and slaughter their countrymen.

    "Cheers", as y’all say.

"DISARMING: A group of ex-combatants hand over their weapons during a ceremony to mark the official end of a UN-backed disarmament drive known as ’Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration’ in Kabul on July 7.(REUTERS)"

now here is some real evidence of the evil bush/blair/cheney/halliburton/gop/christian right on the move. can you feel the badola roiling through those little keypads in front of you?

    • Read the label on the medication, or I’ll tell your mom you’ve been on the computer

    • Ah those naughty, naughty, terrorists.... no uniforms, no airplanes...whatever next.

Those evil, evil, errh, uh, moslims.... not like the christians eh? no cluster bombs, no napalm, whatever next?

    • Look, the reason the laws and customs of warfare are followed is to protect civilian non-combatants. When combatants choose to hide among civilians, they invite civilian casualties.

Practical example: to separate the sheep from the goats in Fallujah, maybe we should have just sent in B-52’s to demolish the whole town. That would have saved a lot of lives on our side.

If you truly value the lives of civilian non-combatants, you’ll stop playing your "moral equivalency" game.

  • Moral equivalency? Civilian lives? Depleted uranium travels. If we keep going at this rate we can say goodbye to the human race. We’re in this together. "Divide and conquer" isn’t working. Xenophobia, racism and hatred won’t help us find a solution.

    • The DU theory is not supported by the evidence. Military firing ranges where DU munitions are used have been located near US populations for decades with no evidence of long-term effects.

If we don’t confront jihad aggressively right now, we can "say goodbye to the human race." When a Western city gets nuked by jihadists, the call to nuke Mecca, Riyadh, Amman, or Cairo will be powerful. Kill jihadists—who are all itching for martyrdom anyway—now to avoid killing millions of innocents later.

Would you have responded to Germany’s xenophobia, racism, and hatred through some solution other than fighting Germany, or is it just that xenophobia, racism, and hatred are acceptable if they’re not coming from the West?

    • If we do get nuked by a foreigner or even a citizen here it will be our own fault for years of covert murders and behind the scenes CIA operations to take over other countries and steal their resources. Americans have to realize that for every dirty act commited by our government there will be retribution to follow, if not this year, then some other time in the future.

If the U.S. government/CIA would stop terrorizing the world, then maybe, just maybe we could all breathe a little easier. In time the future generations will hate us less and possibly like Canada, New Zealand, and other "western" countries, we can rejoin the class of humanitarians who take care of their own citizens and mind their own affairs, and are not the target of retaliation and revenge.

As long as our government is really just a military government/economy we will all have to live with the reality of terrorist attacks coming our way.

    • Interestingly, by absolving terrorists of any free will in carrying out the atrocities they regularly carry out, you actually dehumanize them more than anyone else does. Do you believe they are racially inferior or something? Mere animals waiting to unwittingly react to stimulus from the West?
