The Italian government has confirmed the execution of one of the Italian hostages
in Iraq, 36-year-old Fabrizio Quattrocchi, one of the four Italian security guards
abducted Monday in Iraq.

The Al-Jazeera TV network said Wednesday it received a videotape allegedly showing
the killing, in which the abductors threaten to kill the remaining hostages if
their demands are not met.

Al-Jazeera said it did not broadcast the tape because it was too graphic.

The kidnappers have demanded the withdrawal of Italian troops from Iraq, an official
apology from Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi for Italy’s insults to Islam, and
the release of religious detainees in Iraq.

"The Italian government should apologize in the name of its prime minister on
Arabic news channels for all its actions against Islam and Muslims."
