Opposition Leader Kim Beazley says the ALP needs to concentrate on holding the government to account rather than looking inward.

On Thursday, Mr Beazley said he was turning his focus to the campaign by the ACTU against the government’s proposed industrial reforms.

Speaking to a crowd of around 100,000 in Melbourne, Mr Beazley committed Labor to fight to wind back many of the proposed changes.

A rally of similar number will wind through the streets of Sydney.

Mr Beazley’s call follows a difficult week for Labor following the release of a book chronicling the tumultuous 13-month reign of Mark Latham as federal Labor leader.

Mr Latham’s controversial biography Loner: Inside a Labor Tragedy, describes the ALP as a party beyond repair and a machine political operation.

Mr Latham also attacked Mr Beazley and describing state premiers Bob Carr, Peter Beattie and Geoff Gallop as A-grade a***holes. (AAP)
