Aug 4, 2006, 00:09
Over the past two decades, as the Christian Right has grown in political power in the United States, there has been parallel growth in support for Israel. A number of organizations made up of conservative evangelical and Jewish leaders have been founded, and millions of dollars have been raised and donated to charities in Israel.
Now, a new group plans to take it up a notch, (...)

byLara Deeb
(Lara Deeb, a cultural anthropologist, is assistant professor of women’s studies at the University of California-Irvine. She is author of An Enchanted Modern: Gender and Public Piety in Shi‘i Lebanon.)
Hizballah, the Lebanese Shi‘i movement whose militia is fighting the Israeli army in south Lebanon, has been cast misleadingly in much media coverage of the ongoing war. Much more than a militia, the movement is also a political party that is a powerful actor in Lebanese (...) -

NEW YORK, NY — (OfficialWire) — 08/01/06 — Exchange the word "Jew" or "Jews" in the recent diatribe of Mel Gibson-as reported by the website TMZ.com-with any other group of people and the world would have ignored Gibson’s statement and dutifully concentrated on his apparent addiction.
Imagine for a moment that Mel said: "Fucking Americans... The Americans are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you an American?" (...) -

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - Like most pastors who lead thriving evangelical megachurches, the Rev. Gregory A. Boyd was asked frequently to give his blessing - and the church’s - to conservative political candidates and causes.
The requests came from church members and visitors alike: Would he please announce a rally against gay marriage during services? Would he introduce a politician (...) -
What Ann Coulter Would Learn If She Actually Studied The Bible
29 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentWhat Ann Coulter Would Learn If She Actually Studied The Bible By Celeste Beckendorf July 28, 2006 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. (...)

Just who is it then, who is making matters worse on this sadly violent little planet? Surely it’s the Godless heathens and Socialists, right?
Surely it’s the American enemies: Countries like France, Cuba, Russia, China, Venezuela, Bolivia, Spain. Socialist regimes and dictatorships who are, so the State Department (...) -
Violence in the Middle East is a SIGN of the END of the RELIGIOUS MIND CONTROL authority of Zionism
21 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
12 commentsToday the mind control of the lies - the false system of religions which "PREACH PEACE" but practice violence and politics based on economics, deceptions, and propaganda SURELY IS NOT the sign of any G*D chosen people or even intelligent behavior — IT IS THE EXPRESSION of FEAR and ignorange that believes that lies can control everything and anyone with the use of money, blackmail, and subversion of human social instutions - including education, media, government, economics, and public (...)

The Untermensch Syndrome: Israel’s Moral Decay
19 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsThe labeling as anti-Semitic of anyone critical of the state of Israel’s policies in the continued destruction of Palestinian identity, and now Lebanese society and infrastructure, and the increasing domination into American foreign policy no longer has the sting of threat or intimidation it once mastered. For too long this masquerade has been used to silence those opposing anything Israel, shouted at anyone disseminating truth and seeking justice. Like the boy who cried wolf, this charade (...)

The Rev. Billy Graham is No Phil Berrigan!
13 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 comment“Phil Berrigan took the Gospel...personally!” - Martin Sheen
Baltimore, MD - The Rev. Billy Graham, now 87 years old and once a crony of the disgraced President, Richard M. Nixon, was in town recently doing his evangelical thing. He rallied the faithful at Camden Yards, located near Harborplace, over a three day period. Graham’ call, according to his PR flacks, brought crowds estimated at 83,000 to the baseball facility, including about 3,200, who made the big decision to “dedicate their (...) -
The Ironclad Incompatibility of Democracy and Islam
11 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsThere’s much talk now about spreading democracy throughout the Arabic cultures, as if such a mission were possible. If one is, say, aiming for 2909, then perhaps there’d be a chance. But now? Impossible. And the reasons are abundantly clear though not quite obvious in the public arena.
Supporters say, look at the strains of Islam that have adopted to democracy, or at how well the Ottoman Empire treated aliens. Is that the empirical proof democracy stands a snowball’s chance in hell in (...)
