The CIA, ISI, Bin Laden and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar

CIA could not possibly be unaware of Osama during the Afghan jihad. Osama had his place in the triagle of CIA led by William Casey, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intellignece headed by the famous Gul, and Saudis Intelligence led by Prince al Turki. CIA worked VERY closely with ISI and the Saudis, and they in turn were the top managers of the Afghan jihad. Any mujahideen coming to Aghanistan was processed thru the Gul-Turki networks. Osama, especially later during the war, was way too salient a figure to go unnoticed. Bin Laden was active in precisely the epicenter of the ISI-Saudi activities: organizing the flows of Arabs fighters, the vases and training. At some point, Osama became closely entangled with Hekmatyar, THE NUMBER 1 CIA-boy in the entire story. It is now known that CIA knew that Hekmatyar was a fundamentalist (he threw acid in the faces of women who didn’t wear veil) and a prominent drug-lord; that never stopped Americans from giving a HALF of their huge cash aid to the Afghan cause personally to Hekmatyar.

"Bin Laden becomes closely tied to the warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, and greatly strengthens Hekmatyar’s opium smuggling operations. [Le Monde (Paris), 9/14/2001] Hekmatyar, who also has ties with bin Laden, the CIA, and drug running, has been called “an ISI stooge and creation.”

Hameed Gul, who was in the very centre of the US-Saudi-Pakistani-Afghan enterprize, says this:

"I know bin Laden and his associates. I’ve been with them here, in Europe and the Middle East."

Unlike the Afghan fighters, Hekmatyar, who were most personally involved in the military action, Osama spent good part of his time as a facilitator, and in this quality was working with ISI and the al Turki men, who in turn were in close contact with CIA. Additionally, the entire enterprize was infested CIA educators and instructors personally teaching the Arabs to use different weapons and tactics.

It is only the question whether Osama worked with CIA directly or thru ISI and Prince Turki. It is not possible at all that CIA didn’t know him. But why would they see him any different at the time; they worked with Hekmatyar who was the epitome of evil: throwing acid into women’s faces, trading heroin, assassinating fellow mujahideen leaders. And this folk was the #1 Reagan boy in Afghan. Why not Osama ?
