On Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, the “Maryland Coalition to Stop the BGE Rate Hikes,” called a press conference. It was held at noon at the historic New Shiloh Baptist Church, in Baltimore, MD. The activists urged Gov. Martin O’Malley; members of the state’s General Assembly; and BGE/Constellation, the utility conglomerate, to support “a moratorium on utility shuts-off from Jan. 1, 2009 through May 31, 2009.” In its press release, the advocacy group underscored: “Ten people have died across Maryland since October, 2008, due to the cold.” A fuller video version of the press conference can be found on Google, at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8385084598667709242&hl=en.
