Wars and conflicts International

Many British people regard the battle beginning at Falluja and last week’s casualties among the Black Watch with dismay, even revulsion. They perceive an ugly predicament in Iraq growing worse by the day, and Tony Blair allowing hapless British troops to be dragged ever deeper into it. Here, they say, are the first fruits of the re-election of George W. Bush, an ignorant and dangerous man. Heaven help those shackled to his chariot wheels.

The Daily Telegraph, London The U.S. forces are expected to increase their barbaric acts in the hope of finishing off once and for all the Iraqi resistance so that they can have peace and realize their aims, foremost of which is the rearrangement of the country in such a way that would enable their new allies to hide behind "a false legitimacy," which they will use to open a new phase in which the final word will be that of a ruling gang in Tel Aviv.

 Al-Watan, Saudi Arabia

The offensive in Falluja is filled with political and military symbolism, which is why America’s future in Iraq could be decided in this city. The attack by U.S. troops and Iraqi National Guard members falls between two elections. In the United States, the commander in chief has just been freshly legitimized. ... In Iraq , elections are supposed to be held in January, by which time the offensive should long have been successfully concluded. Such a success would strengthen the incumbent Iraqi Prime Minister, (Ayad) Allawi. But Falluja is more than a town - it is now the symbol of resistance, it is the insurgents’ recruitment office.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Munich What did the inhabitants of Falluja do to deserve this fierce attack? ... What makes our hearts bleed is the participation of the Iraqi government in committing such a massacre by backing the U.S. occupation forces and encouraging them to kill innocent Iraqis. Arab and Muslim countries [must] achieve unity in ... sending the message that terrorism can never be brought to an end by imposing ready-made recipes on Middle East countries.

Samir Ragab, Al-Gomhuria, Egypt (This battle) is a critical one for the future of Iraq, which has become a crucial test in the global war against militant Islamism ... Though the government is indeed backed by foreign coalition forces, the terrorists’ war is, if anything, a more foreign attempt to hijack Iraq’s future.

 The Jerusalem Post

The immediate military outcome of the offensive by U.S. soldiers and Marines against insurgents in control of Falluja is hardly in doubt. The Falluja offensive is supported by the interim Iraqi government of Prime Minister Ayad Allawi in the hope that pacifying Falluja will help the country to hold credible national elections in January. Yet, questions remain about the likely success of this strategy. Some in the minority Sunni community threaten to boycott the voting, while clerical leaders of the Shiite majority see it as their path to power.

The San Francisco Chronicle Perhaps the destruction of Falluja is meant to be a lesson to the Sunnis, just as the gassing of Halabja and the draining of the marshes were Saddam Hussein’s lesson to the Kurds and Marsh Arabs, respectively. But tanks cannot win political battles. Washington’s only hope was to conquer the insurgents through peaceful persuasion, all attempts at which seem now to have been abandoned.

  • What did Fallujah do to deserve this? They harbored insurgents who attacked a convoy, killed and burned their bodies, hung them over a bridge and then had a street party. They’re not having one now are they.

    • Nobody deserves any kind of torture or war, and yes if that happened thats wrong, but what the hell as the U.S. been doing to other countries through out all these years!? You have to start reading (stop listening to the media) and realize that the U.S. is a terroist and we need to change this because these deaths have to stop, for everyone and anyone whos dieing for this war. Its horrible and scary to know whats going on these seconds of our life. When will it change? Maybe never, maybe soon, but we should try no matter the outcome! -kaoru

Once again no one deserves all this whoever they may be.....

    • I would suggest that you stop reading the lefty spin on history and try to see american actions in context to its time.

    • Yup, we whipped fallujahs ass, theys not having a party now uh ha uh ha. Honey pass me ma coke ’n burger so’s i can watch the ball game. Hey whers my brain to... ?

    • I was expecting them to burn fallujah. I was ready with my marshmallows.

    • You people are filthy and selfish and we certainly dont need people in this world like you. What if they came over and killed your families, bombed your house, tortured the fu*k out or you and tryed to control your way of life? These people are just the same as we are only with different living situiations but everybody is different in their own way. You people have to open up your mind BIG TIME and realize whats going on. I cant belive the words that are coming out of your mind. Your no better than Bush and his greedy followers. Even worse, go join the pathetic U.S. army because you believe all the lies they are feeding you and get your brains blown out by a pack of brave rebels because your brain is lost, thats sad to say but your sad to hear. -Kaoru

    • For many years, repression, torture and murder were carried on in El Salvador by dictators installed and supported by the u.s government. The story was virtually never covered. On March 7, 1980, two weeks before the assassination, a state of siege had been instituted in El Salvador, and the war against the population began in force (with continued US support and involvement). The first major attack was a big massacre at the Rio Sumpul, a coordinated military operation of the Honduran and Salvadoran armies in which at least 600 people were butchered. Infants were cut to pieces with machetes, and women were tortured and drowned. Pieces of bodies were found in the river for days afterwards. There were church observers, so the information came out immediately, but the mainstream US media didn’t think it was worth reporting.
The us is still having a party.Whith a bunch of idiots like you it is no suprise. I guess some salvadorinian is going to have to drown your mother, and cut your sibelings into little pieaces so you can learn your leasson. God forbid it. -Kenshin

    • Oh yeah, what we need in this world are people like you who support people like saddam hussein, the taliban, osama bin ladin and zarqawi.

    • Ho hum, get over it Salvadorian. It was salvadorians that killed salvadorians. There’s no way you’re gonna get around that.

    • What’s wrong with supporting Osama, he is one of Bush’s best friends, his family has been in business with the Bush crime family for years, if it wasn’t for Osama Bush would not be the president. Osama will never be caught because Bush needs him to justify what he is doing in his oil war.

    • Sorry but the US history is one of genocide from day one, they tortured the native people and commited attrocities on them, they have gone around the world using WMD on helpless populations from the time of the founding fathers. You shouldn’t be so shocked at what they are doing in Iraq, the entire history of the US is one big murder story, they murder for anything that won’t be handed over to them, they do it in the name of God. The Americans are the most evil people in the world and when the nuclear war begins in the very near future it will be the Americans who start it. And the American people will still be in denial and making excuses for their government and declaring that is is being done for God. And maybe that will be true. God is a murdering bastard obviously, he wouldn’t know peace or want it if there was even a chance for it he wouldn’t permit it. America has always had a war on and always will it is in our blood and it is in our religion and in our daily life. We have never had peace and we never will and we are proud of it so if you do not like it then you should get the hell away from us and our God.

    • Well if you love Osama, then you’ll obviously love Bush even more. I expect you to give Bush your full support in Iraq then. Thanks.

    • I love God, I love Jesus Christ!!!!!

    • It must really upset you that a country full of evil people ,as you say, is enjoying so much of life and controls a lot of the world. I think you should examine your hatred for Americans and the US and what that achieves. It is obvious that you chose to focus on the negative and ignore the positive.

    • I BEG TO FUCKING DIFFER.GO DO SOME RESEARCH AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE PICTURES OF TEENAGE SALVADORIAN GIRLS THAT WERE RAPED BY U.S.,YES THATS U.S.,SOLDIERS BEFORE HAVING ACID THROWN IN THEIR FACE.ALL PEOPLE COMMIT WAR CRIMES IN WAR.ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE,IE THE U.S.,HAVE IMMUNITY FROM PROSECUTION.

    • WHAT POSITIVES.SOME NICE PEOPLE LIVE IN AMERICA.THERE IS THE POSITIVE,OTHER THAN THAT,THE U.S. SPREADS IT’S FILTH,OPINION AND POWER AROUND LIKE A SCHOOL BULLY.PLEASE,TELL ME,WHAT FUCKING POSITIVES.ANYONE IN AMERICA THAT HAS ANYTHING REAL TO SAY IS SQUASHED AND KEPT DOWN,OR RIDICULED WHILE IDIOTS LIKE MADONNA AND EMINEM ARE HAILED AS BEING THE VOICES AND INFLUENCE OF YOUTH.GOD HELP THE YOUTH.FUNNY HOW TV CENSORSHIP IN THE US IS VERY STRICT BUT ALL US OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE TO COP THE FULL BRUNT OF YOUR DECREPID FILTH.AND I,D LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY AMERICANS ARE REALLY ENJOYING LIFE,CONSUMING AND ENJOYING ARE TWO VERY DIFFERENT CONCEPTS.AND IS CONTROLLING A WORLD THAT IS NOT YOURS TO CONTROL IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF.AGAIN,WHAT FUCKING POSITIVES.

    • The positives? Democracy, the US is the oldest democracy in the world. Marshall Plan for Western Europe. Turning Japan into a democracy. Religious Freedom. Civil Rights Act. Native born inventors. Artists in almost every endeavor that have made an influence in the modern world. The United Nations, although I think that was a mistake like the Marshall Plan.

And a lot of Americans are enjoying life. The proof is in the fact that more people come here than want to leave.

    • Go ahead and differ but it won’t change the fact that it was a civil salvadorian war. I don’t know what pleasure you derive by hating the US.

    • Oh please, there is no such thing as Democracy in this country, our representative government has made sure of that....you probably even think that the elections were on the up and up you must be a 12 year old.

    • You are obviously trying to minimize my point of view which means you are also minimizing the accomplishments and lifestyle that the US enjoys. It makes me wonder if this was not so much of a democracy, why you can still say the things that you are saying. Perhaps you can tell me of a country that has Democracy. And tell me how much better it is there than here.

    • You love suffering and death by greedy governments.

    • Religious freedom? What a crock there is no freedom from religion in America, they shove it down your throat non stop....they impose their beliefs on everyone when they can’t even live by their own standards...Christians=hypocrits.

    • Of course there is religious freedom in America. There are many choices. If you don’t believe in any religion, that’s okay too. Have they kicked you out of the country? It seems to me that you don’t like Christians. That’s okay too but don’t let your hate blind you to the reality. Of course if you really prefer an environment where you can get rid of any religion altogether, you are free to launch a campaign in the US, no one would prevent you either. And then again, you can also leave the country for another country that is not tinged by any religion. Good luck finding one.

    • In the end America will pay the price for the immoral things it is doing and we will all be dragged down including the sick bastards who support Bush and his war.

    • move to iran i understand they dont care what you believe as amatter of fact i think they encourage freedom and truth and justice and fairness and hate america as much as you .

    • please allow me to shove this down your throat .our nation was founded by white christian people who were fed up with you heathen bastards deal with it

  • where did the people of falluja go before and during the falluja invasionand is it wholeheartedly our policy to tell the whole freaking world what we are gonna do before we do it, what ever happened to the element of surprize, if we utilized this element of warfare as our enemy does we may have obl by now ... //////// ????????do the terrorists tell us what they intend to do before
    they do it
