Women - Feminism Meeting-Debates Europe

INVITATION To the Women’s Assembly Of the 4th European Social Forum, Athens 4-7 May 2006 Dear friends in the women’s and feminist movement and women’s and feminist organisations, As you probably know, women are subject to attack by a holy alliance of conservatism, neoliberalism and the Vatican, which is sharpening sex discrimination and which has as its goal to erode or even abolish our hard-won rights.

And yet, at the same time, we have more than 200,000 women “emerging from the silence” and demonstrating in Milan their determination to resist. And, fortunately, they are not alone.

Everywhere in Europe, from east to west, women are raising their voices to demand that we come out of our silence, that we get onto the streets and that we fight back. We believe that the Women’s Assembly organised in the framework of the 4th European Social Forum, which will take place in Athens from the 4-7
May, offers us a golden opportunity to meet, debate and decide how we are going to coordinate our action and our resistance.

In other words, how we are going to contribute to the construction of a united, mass autonomous women’s movement in Europe!

The Women’s Assembly, which will be the main focus for the diverse activities relating to women’s rights during the 4th ESF, is prepared by an open process in which dozens of feminist organisations and movements and individual women from the whole of Europe participate.

The decisions are made by consensus at the women’s meetings that take place during the preparatory meetings for the ESF.

This is why therefore we invite you to participate in the 4th ESF at Athens and more particularly in the Women’s Assembly which is going to be one of its main and central points. We look forward to meeting you...
