Justice Governments USA

Fitzgerald explained that his investigation should not be interpreted as a vindication of a political point of view. I’d recommend reviewing his October, 2005 press conference.

Even if indicted, Rove would have faced crimes that had nothing to do with his political point of view or his notorious style as a Republican political guru, and everything to do with his breaking the law.

The facts surrounding the Plame case are still far from resolved, so it would be pre-mature to assume Fitzgerald is done with his investigation. Even more presumptous would be that Fitzgerald’s inability to charge for the outing reflects the possibility he never intended to charge those responsible. For that, I’d strongly recommend looking at the laws which Fitzgerald could use for prosecution (Intelligence Identities Protection Act, Etc.) —they are vague and VERY hard to prove, requiring someone to out an agent knowing it would harm the national security.

If we have reached the point where we use our laws to diminish political advantage, both sides will use the law to their advantage, regardless of who is in charge. The whole point of a just society is that the law be applied universally, without regard to political orientation.

The real beef with the absence of a Plame indictment lies in the scale of corruption in Washington and the heinousness of the White House stabbing one of our own agents in the back in a time of war.

As we saw with Duke Cunningham, once a certain level of corruption is crossed, partisanship is a secondary issue. This all-politicians-are-dirty does the "opposition" (for lack of a better word) no good, since voters tend to think both parties are corrupt. This raises the need to have a proportional representation and a multi-partied system.

As a matter of fact, the raid on the Democratic Louisiana Congressmen Jefferson (the $90,000 in the fridge guy) was timed to coincide with widening corruption scandal associated with Abramoff, which is dragging down the some of the many remaining remnants of DeLay’s corrupt machine.

The scope of corruption dampens efforts to spotlight just how corrupt the Repugs have become, or the fact that Corporations (and their compliant media) have tilted the political landscape through their control of the media.

And to make things worse, the co-opting of so many Democrats has really made the difference between the parties nominal in a lot of places. This isn’t to say there isn’t a difference; it’s just less noticable to Joe Voter.

By throwing enough crap in the fan, the Repugs make holding them accountable more difficult. We progressives are spread out fighting them (and their corporate masters) in so many issues that some illegalities are going to go unprosecuted.

As people like Justin Raimondo have said there is really just one well defined party: the War Party. Who wins is secondary to the reality that our government is under the control of a elitist cadre acting on behalf of monied corporate interests.

Until proportional representation, or we’re able to hold votes of no-confidence, and hold off-term special elections there will be zero accountability. And it was a wonder at all the Fitzgerald was even appointed; he was picked by the interim Attorney General between Ashcroft and Gonzales...

  • Strong Indications Rove Has Been Indicted By Runaway Grand Jury In "Sealed Vs. Sealed"

    1. The "Sealed vs. Sealed" matter.
(a sealed indictment was returned by the grand jury hearing evidence in the CIA leak case on May 10th, a day that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald met with the grand jury —case number 06 cr 128 in fed court database with summary: "No further information is available.")

    2. The carefully worded statement from Rove’s attorney, Luskin on 6/13.
"On June 12, 2006, Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald formally advised us that he does not anticipate seeking charges against Karl Rove...
In deference to the pending case, we will not make any further public statements about the subject matter of the investigation."

    3. The carefully worded statements of Randal Samborn, Fitzgerald’s press officer.
(Asked if the CIA leak investigation is still continuing, Samborn said, "I’m not commenting on that as well at this time." Samborn also said he would "not comment on Mr. Rove’s status.” )

    4. The strange case of Jason Leopold
(Truthout.org is still sticking by the story that Rove was indicted in May)

    5. The Constitutitional grant of authority to Grand Jurors to indict on their own volition without requiring a US Attorney "seek charges".

    • federal case numbers are sequential. 06 cr 127 was created on May 16th so 06 cr 128 would not have been created previous to that date.....that simple fact blows pretty much the whole 06 cr 128 conspiracy theory apart. And, it is also not unusual for cases to be "Sealed vs. Sealed" I believe it was Salon who found that one out of 5 are labelled as such.

As the commentor noted this is a "patently obvious fabrication" and keeping this b.s. going is creating fodder.
