Russian President Vladimir Putin said early Sunday he believed Israel was pursuing wider goals in its military campaign than the return of abducted soldiers.

"However complicated the questions are, maximum efforts must be applied to resolve the situation in a peaceful way and I think all efforts have not been exhausted," Putin said.

"However, it is our impression that aside from seeking to return the abducted soldiers, Israel is pursuing wider goals," the Russian president told a midnight news conference after a dinner opening the summit of the Group of Eight industrialized nations. He did not elaborate.

  • I just wish Pres. Bush had the same freedom and courage to admit the truth as Pres. Putin. But of course, there is no AIPAC in Russia and Pres. Putin has made no unholy alliance with Israel. Ironically, it is more and more obvious that Russia is evolving into more of a real democracy than we are.

    • Regarding President Putin, you will find the essay at: http://tinyurl.com/fh59n gives an insight into his effectiveness and how and why he keeps political pundits and commentators on both sides of the Atlantic off balance.
      Regards, Tex

    • I couldn’t agree with you more. America’s unholy alliance with Israel is pushing the entire world towards WWIII and non of have the power to stop this regime.

    • I also believe Russia has become what we once were a democracy. Way to go bush. now we’re back to the dark ages again. ASSHOLE!

    • Russia also has a flat tax system. Russia is not spying on every call like here in America. Russia is not caging peaceful protestors or forcing book outlets to drop the book "America Deceived" by E.A. Blayre III. Russia is not controlled by Israel. So they are more free.

    • No question about it: Israel has other goals than just returning the IDF men. We are being dragged into the biggest mess the world will ever have seen, and all because Israel does not ever intend to relinquish the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The American People are gradually AIPAC, but by the time the damage has been done to our country and what was a democracy, it will perhaps be too late.
Even if Iran does acquire nuclear know-how and makes one, they are not so stupid to attack Israel or any other country because they know fully well what would happen to them.
Israel needs to come to an immediate cessation of what it is now doing, and that is the decimation of innocent human beings. Enough of this madness.

  • I trust that Vladimir Putin keeps his mouth shut so as not to elaborate.

Putin and his advisors know they cannot offend Bush, Cheney, Bolton and Rice with the blunt truth they have in their heads as they see U.S. Empire unravel in the Middle East to foster Zionist geopolitical influence. Just keep real opinions to themselves and let Bush and co stumble into the bottomless pit of black hole oblivion.

Putin and Hu of China know what they will have to do when the shit hits the fan as the result of Israel crossing the thick red line to violate their ally’s sovereignty in the Middle East.

Putin was correct in stating that Israel is pursuing wider goals.

It’s all about coveting the Middle East to subjugate Islamic countries to kowtow to Zionist dictatorship in its headquarter homeland by way of brainwashed Uncle Sam’s flexing Schwarzenegger-esque military-economic strength to intimidate the subjects into obedience.

  • should of seen Bush’s look on his face when Putin was talking about our record of democracy in IRAQ! HHAHAAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAA.... priceless!

    • Is this the same Putin who is behind the death of
      a 120,00 innocent Chechen civilians? I don’t know
how he can say it without laughing but i wouldn’t
want to play poker with this guy.
The dude that said "our unholy alliance with Israel",
that’s opposing to our "holy alliance" with Saudi Arebia
and Egypt or do you have a problem with the Hebrews?

      Tito, Folrida.

    • Tito from Folrida,

Is that meant to be Florida?

      Learn to spell.

The Saudis and Egyptians have not been occupying other peoples lands for 50 years while they kill and maim. They are not currently involved in wars of aggression and they have not defied as many UN resolutions as those mentioned in the unholy alliance.

I will make them the synagogue of Satan, those that claim they are Jews, but who lie

      Revelations chap 3

    • Hay! Tito
Let me give you some sh!t. You talk of 120,00,000 Chechans dieing under the terrable Outin. firstly—it is a province of Russia idiot. who is helping them Chechans againist the russians—USA. Now if Iran, Syria come out boldly and give arms and CIA like undercover killings and money and support—what would happen? You FK head don’t know—just look at IRAq-U idiot. I guess the millions that USA killed in Iraq to you is nothing. Why not go back to a little history—jerk— the creation of USA—Killings of Hawaiians, Confederates—millions, Natives—32 million, Philopines—1 million out of 8 million. The spanish in Cuba. WWI WWII—all USA planning. Hay! big mouth—how about Vetinam—3 million-you ugly american. Who pushed for Creation of Israel-and millions arabs died and suffering and that had nothing to do with Amerikaka--- Tito a big USA silly dickhead.
At least russia had the balls to kick out the troubling zionist Jews. guess what---The Israelies in power are Russian Jews. And in USa---we never won the cold War—the Russians have taken over America— fools abound in USA

    • 120,000 Chechens? More like 200,000-300,000 between the two Chechen wars (genocial), plus the 1/2 million chechen refugees. Chechnya is NOT PART OF RUSSIA, Russian drunkards have just occupied it, like most non-islamic colonialists.

Putin is no different from Bush and no different from the Zionists, Putin is protecting russian interests in the region, not because he likes muslims, he hates them!

    • As for the part America has played in being an asset to the world in terms of honestly helping others follow this link,
      http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/usinterventionism.html

Israel and the US deserve each other

    • "Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves ... politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves... The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country." — David Ben Gurion, quoted on pp 91-2 of Chomsky’s Fateful Triangle, which appears in Simha Flapan’s "Zionism and the Palestinians pp 141-2 citing a 1938 speech.

"We walked outside, Ben-Gurion accompanying us. Allon repeated his question, What is to be done with the Palestinian population?’ Ben-Gurion waved his hand in a gesture which said ’Drive them out!" — Yitzhak Rabin, leaked censored version of Rabin memoirs, published in the New York Times, 23 October 1979.

"Israel should have exploited the repression of the demonstrations in China, when world attention focused on that country, to carry out mass expulsions among the Arabs of the territories." — Benyamin Netanyahu, then Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, former Prime Minister of Israel, speaking to students at Bar Ilan University, from the Israeli journal Hotam, November 24, 1989.

    • A little respect for others wouldn’t hurt. Why rave about killings, wars and violence when these are caused by the absence of respect for each person’s dignity? Calling other people idiots and jerks because of their ideas is not the best way to have an open discussion. The verbal violence and rage found in these "pacifist" blogs is staggering. Pacifism preaches nonviolence and dialogue, through which we can hope to bring about change, but we need respect.

    • Is this the same media that keeps telling me what a peachy place Iraq is for all those Iraqi’s saved from Sadam. Perhaps only 14 year old girls need worry about those ever so nice US soldiers. And as for 100k civillians killed the US achieved that in first 2 years alone in Iraq. Is this a contest??

    • Tito - I don’t have a problem with the Hebrews. I do have a big problem with Zionists and their unduly, traitorus activities within our State Department and with our cowardly polictical leaders who are afraid to challenge the most powerful lobby, probably in history, AIPAC, with its millions and millions of dollars ready to buy elections and ruin careers. Did I mention bankrupting America and killing and maiming thousands of our youth?

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin said early Sunday he believed Israel was pursuing wider goals in its military campaign than the return of abducted soldiers. This seems fairly obvious given the huge amount of destruction in Lebanon and the Occupied West Bank over two soldiers. (Israel routinely arrests and detains Palestinians—including hundreds of ’political’ prisoners.) It is strange, however, that the Russian President has to mention this instead of someone from the U.S. Media!

What also should be mentioned is that the Palestinian people have been occupied for 58 years now essentially experiencing life in an ’open-jail’ like environment. While illegal acts (e.g., bombings, kidnappings) should never be condoned by either side, the actions of the Palestinians can be understood when all the attrocities of the Israelies (against the Palestinians over nearly six decades), are understood. Have we forgotten the 62 U.N. Resolutions against Israel’s behavior—that have been essentially ignored? The hundreds of bulldozed homes (and that is mostly civilians, mind you)? And those bombs being dropped on Lebanon? As for the $3 Billion dollars in foreign (e.g., U.S.) aid annually being spent on Israel, remember, this is the result—a HUGE use of unnecessary force against an incredibly repressed people. And as usual, whenever Israel uses aggression against the Palestinians, it’s always ’in retaliation’, never as the aggressor. Whenever Palestinians attack Israel, it’s always ’the Terrorists...’ This has been true since Israel mastered the use of Public Relations world wide, since its loss in Lebanon 24 years ago.

As for the causes of terrorism, that’s an entirely different issues. Hezbollah is to blame for their kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers, (however much they claim it to be warranted), but the Israeli response has been rediculously extreme. It certainly doesn’t promote the cause of peace. And if Israel were seriously interested in peace, a prisoner swap seems most reasonable at this time. Tom P, Spring Valley, New York

    • Great article

    • What are you talking about?
      We can change nothing.
Get some bottles of ’Newcastle Brown Ale’ and enjoyyyyyyyyy!!!!

    • Don’t let them fool you - ISRAEL STARTED IT

Ever since the bloody carnage in Lebanon started, the mainstream media has echoed Israel’s self-righteous indignation about how they’re merely defending themselves - "Israeli sovereignty was violated" when Hizbullah "kidnapped" their soldiers from "across the border."

What they conveniently reverse is that Hizbullah confronted Israeli troops on the LEBANESE SIDE OF BORDER.
It all started on July 12 when Israel troops were ambushed on LEBANON’S SIDE OF THE BORDER with Israel. Hezbollah, which commands the Lebanese south, immediately seized on their crossing. They arrested two Israeli soldiers, killed eight Israelis and wounded over 20 in attacks inside Israeli territory. [AsiaTimes.com]

Ehud Olmert holds "Lebanon responsible for the fate of the missing soldiers," who were captured near Aita al-Shaab on the LEBANESE SIDE OF THE BORDER, that is to say the soldiers violated the sovereignty of Lebanon, a COMMON OCCURRENCE. [Kurt Nimmo]

Even Israeli News reported it on the 12th, contemporaneously with the incident.

The Hizbullah said its operatives destroyed an Israeli tank attempting to cross the border into Lebanon.

Israeli ground troops entered southern Lebanon on Wednesday to search for two soldiers captured earlier in the day by Hezbollah. (AP)

  • The other day I heard some Russians saying how they feel Putin is Bush’s puppet?
Reported during the rally in Russia, only a handful of people were there, but they were passionate about their belief’s.

I often wonder if all the world’s leaders attend palace-midnight parties together, to toast war.

I see former heads of CIA getting sweet jobs in big companies to influence the pentagon for "secret" no-bid contracts.

    CIA run by Generals.

Generals (ret) , working for Halliburton / KBR... Vice Presidents who do the head of Defence thing for Bush#1 , and no business experience for a day , heads off to headup Halliburton and then doubles back and steps into the whitehouse once again to help Bush#2.

They pass their own laws, so what they are doing isn’t at all illegal and are so "secret" , that no one can get a copies.

Never in the history of the entire world have there been 2 former oil executives running a government. You know that black marble statue , the one that sits atop the Capital building? It was carved , sculptured , polished and placed high above because it is dedicated by it’s depiction of the god of war. It’s what America stands for. Even former Russian dictator’s noted... "capitalism should be called ," corporatism." The merge has begun. War-mart anyone.

  • I aggree with Pres Putin and am convinced that the Zionists are seeking excuses to further other ambitions. They have conquered the United States and to some degree Britain. Their final ambition is similar to the Fascists of Germany duirng the 1930 /1940 era-------to dominate the world.

  • ha-ha-ha-ha...

  • Stratfor has one of the best analysis of the Israeli invasion that I’ve seen. The kidnapped soldiers were nothing more than an excuse to carry out major military campaigns.

In fact, the way they’re bombing civilian targets there’s a chance Israel could kill the soldiers.

These people have been fighting for 5,000 years. They’re not going to stop despite any other countries intervention.

I’m just sorry my US tax dollars are paying for half of it.

  • International Community my Ass!

All Putin had to look at is America itself. The vote rigging the New Orleans response, the NSA, FBI CIA and the Patriot Act. On the subject of Israel, this beastly morphed and pathetic land claiming vultures who always think that they could dictate all the wars that they started- this time the rag-tagged resistance lured them into their normal brutal arrogance but surprised them by crippling their ships and striking real fear into the city and populations that there are real strategist who will not compromise their human right to fight on a tit-for-tat basis. There is no international community; there’s an Israeli lobby and this psychology the Lebanon and Palestine have matured thus knows who and how to respond to.
In other words F**k the International Community of EU cowards, US evangelical racist and Arab dictators our (Lebanon & Palestine) lives are as equal as any other and we will fight as the minions do. You target our cities and our civilians and we will do the same, to hell with the media game.

    • I guess it’s very simple really.

Being that I’m a Brazilian, and i’m not an Arab or Jew or American, I guess it’s kind of easier for me to put things in perspective, since I can express my opinions without passion or prejudice.

It’s a matter of simple questions with simple answers.

Q: Who put Saddam in the driving seat of Iraq decades ago???

A: Yes...THE USA, because back then Saddam ensured the USA that his OIL would be traded in Dollars. So how come now the USA is "freeing" the country from a tyrant beast??

Q: Guess who supplied the chemical weapons technology to Saddan (the tyrant beast) in the first place, so he could use it against the Curds???

      A: Again...THE USA.

Q: Who’s giving the most support to the war in Iraq and the Bush administration???? (I guess most Americans here will say it is to "free" Iraq from a tiranic and violent dictatorship).

A: The American military/belical complex and the American oil industry. And bush rewards these sectors by invading with MILITARY forces an OIL RICH country.

See how simple it is??? I just don’t know what that has to do with Israel.
