NEW ORLEANS, LA - AUGUST 3, 2006 - St. Bernard Parish resident and Hurricane Katrina survivor Rockey Vaccarella is towing his honorary FEMA trailer to Washington D.C. on August 18, 2006 in hopes of having dinner with President Bush. Rockey is a true survivor who rode out Hurricane Katrina on his roof by holding on to a rope for four hours in one of the most devastated areas of the New Orleans region. He eventually swam to safety then got in a boat to help rescue others. Now Rockey is on a mission to find people like himself who’ve lost everything but want to go home. People that want to rebuild and refuse to give up. His mission will take him all the way to the White House where he will deliver a simple yet powerful message:

"We want to thank President Bush and the American people for everything they have done so far for south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region but, to remind everyone that the job is not complete and to please do whatever is possible to help clean-up and re-build so our people can return home."

Rockey’s journey will start in St. Bernard Parish, LA and end at the White House where an authentic Louisiana chef will prepare a good old fashioned Cajun dinner for President Bush. To make the occasion even more memorable, the dinner will take place inside Rockey’s trailer where he will personally deliver his message to the President on behalf of the people who have lost so much. Rockey will also tell the President about an amazing idea to bring 1 million people to South Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region to help in the recovery effort.

If you think this is an impossible dream, think again. Rockey’s caravan will depart the St. Bernard Civic Center in Chalmette, Louisiana on August 18, 2006 at 9am sharp and will arrive in Washington D.C. on August 21st. Dinner with the President is planned for the evening of August 22nd. The journey to Washington will take the caravan through the cities of New Orleans, Bay St. Louis, Mobile, Montgomery, Atlanta, Columbia, Raleigh, and Richmond. The caravan will stop in each city for Rockey to meet the people, press and government officials. By the time Rockey arrives in the nation’s capitol people from coast to coast will hear his message and support his mission to help rebuild his homeland.

Local New Orleanian, Steven Scaffidi, of the award-winning "People’s Story" documentary has attached his production team to the journey to capture the events as they unfold.

  • I agree with Rocky 100%. I watched the TV in horror, seeing the devastation to that part of LA. Then less than a month later, I was in the same "boat". I pray he mentions something about us lost & forgotten souls in the also hard hit areas of the "Rita" storm. I think Bush is only concerned about Iraq. Once he finishes destroying that country, WE have to pay to rebuild it. In the mean time he doesn’t even mention the victims of Katrina and Rita. Please ask Mr. Bush to help us fill out all the "red tape" paperwork, so they’ll help us with a few dollars to rebuild. Until then, someone is filling their DEEP pockets with recovery money belonging to the people who lost everything. How can you complete the stacks of paperwork when you have lost all the "proof" they want you to provide? Most of us in the "Rita" area have used all of our savings to rebuild what the government has promised to help do. The "red tape" is impossible to go through. It is depressing to say the least. Ask him to come take a look at our properties. Then ask him to fill out the paperwork. Do you think he’d be willing to live in a fema trailer for a year or two? Heck, he wants to send our sons and daughters to Iraq, but won’t even think of sending his kids there. They are in some fancy college that WE are paying for. Our sons and daughters are in Iraq, not home helping their families rebuild. I pray Rocky gets through to someone who cares about the people of LA. H E L P . . .

No, he said he wanted to THANK Bush for ALL he’s done and he said he wished Bush could have another term. Gag. Rockey is a Republican tool, he ran for a GOP seat at St. Bernard Parish. This was all a set-up.
