SHOE SALESMAN SETS OFF CRAZY CHAIN OF EVENTS

October 28, 2006

An item from WFMY News 2 - Greensboro, North Carolina caught my attention. It seems that a shoe salesman knocked on a door around 8:00 p.m. when 4 men appeared, pulled him into the house and then locked him in a closet.

The men then went outside to steal their victim’s car, but the victim kicked the closet door down and smashed his car window with a lamp. The car-jackers evidently startled and drove into a tree.

One jacker pulled a gun to shoot the salesman, but only succeeded in wounding his pal. The wounded pal ran out onto the highway and was struck by a car. The driver that hit him refused to take him to the hospital so the wounded man stopped another car that took him to a grocery store to call for help. It was reported that the police were having trouble figuring out who to charge.

What is the world coming to when a salesman can’t knock on a door at night to sell his wares? Or, have people become so irritated by commercials that they are rebelling, even to the point of gun-play.

I have often thought of doing something about people that knock on my door at night, or phone me when I’m sitting down to supper, or have to reach for the remote mute button when hearing the same commercial for the fiftieth time. But, come on, isn’t this going too far?
