Is Air Force One Public Property?

By Peter Fredson

November 3, 2006

For several days I have watched “Air Force One”, a beautiful blue plane, land and saw George Bush step out onto campaign platforms. The plane forms an impressive backdrop for a sleazy partisan effort.

I wondered how the costs of transporting Bush and his people, (staff, security, agents, etc.) were passed on to the taxpayer or if any were reimbursed by Republicans to the Treasury.

I wondered if this violated any legality about using government property to run partisan political campaigns. Is this plane and crew accessible to any Democratic candidates?

Will somebody please tell me how government property can be appropriated for political partisan purposes? What costs have been reimbursed?

  • Legally, the Repug Party is supposed to reimburse The People, or the federal government for the costs associated with actual political/capmpaign purposes when Air Force One is used to transport the President. Of course, whether that is actually ever done, only a FOIA request can verify. Of course bush probably won’t complywith such a request, because only he decides what lawshe and his out of pocket administration/party will follow.

Frankly, most or the majority of WE, The People, just don’t care - so a revolution, a real street demonstration, nationwide strikes, protests everyday, is at least 20 years down the road. The USA will have to be reduced to pretty much rubble before WE, The People, will care or believe any of the current events occurring now has any effect on our lives/country.

I am not a natural optimist, but even I am feeling so hopeless now about the USA.

    • I would suggest that you continue to wonder about the use of Air Force 1. However, in case you wonder where the money comes from, I will tell you that on April 15, you will reconcile what you owe and pay up. The gov. and bankers have gotten everyone so much in debt buying all kind of crap, that the average American does not have time to think about such things anyway.

The president’s use of AF 1 is a great tool for him. The impressive size, the thunder of the engines, and the gleaming beauty of this machine are the envy of every "Wizard of OZ". So, lets all get back to reality, and concern ourselves with what is really important, "Who do we play tonight?”
