Pentagon Cover-Up of Army Base Disaster

By Peter Fredson

November 4, 2006

I have searched all the major newspapers in vain for the greatest Iraqi disaster this year. There seems to be a massive cover-up of hundreds of American dead, not to mention many Iraqis. This October Surprise may prove to be the undoing of Secretary Rumsfeld, if not George Bush. I found the story on several blogs by surfing the Internet.

The original story was written by Brian Harring on this link:

http://www.tbrnews.org/Archives/a2547.htm

It mentions that on the evening of October 10, 2006 some Iraq insurgents lobbed mortar and rocket round into the U.S. Forward Base Falcon, 13 kilometers south of the Green Zone, Baghdad. There were probably about 3,000 American troops with Iraqi counterparts present. The base was full of ammunition, special fuel, tanks and other vehicles.

The huge stocks of fuel and ammunition erupted into immense explosions that went on for most of the night and were seen by people in the Green Zone.
In the morning large planes with Red Cross markings came to take away the dead and wounded. It is asserted that about 300 American troops were casualties and 165 needed medical attention. Most were taken to the U.S. Military hospital at al-Habaniyah, west of Baghdad.

Photos from satellites and aerial reconnaissance showed the base suffers major damage, with immense stores of fuel and ammunition destroyed, plus six Apache helicopters and many other vehicles. Press Observers saw a long line of army vehicle recovery units dragging heavy tanks and carried to a separate base near Baghdad.

The Official Department of Defense statements alleged no deaths and that only about a hundred soldiers were even present to guard billions of dollars of vital equipment. But to report “only two minor injuries” is hard to believe. Especially when a long list of American casualties was posted by Brian Harring

A Russian news source, Novosti Press Agency, in an article The Green Zone Follies, said:

“The installation itself is full of smoking rubble, and fires were still burning the following day. Although it is still very early to be accurate, reviews here of Falcon’s inventory indicate that losses will certainly exceed $1 billion.”

“Over 300 American troops, including U.S. Army and Marines, CIA agents, U.S. translators and contractors were killed or injured outright or died immediately afterwards en route to hospital or in hospital and over 125 seriously injured, requiring major medical attention and 39 suffering lesser injuries. By accounts, charred and totally unrecognizable fragments of personnel were scattered over an eight block area.”

“122 members of the Iraqi armed forces were killed and 90 seriously injured members were also evacuated to the U.S. military hospital at al-Habbaniyah located some 70km west of Baghdad.”

Some excellent photos of the damage may be seen at:

Or just Google: Forward Base Falcon.

The Blog: pissedonpolitics had this to say:

“I have been looking at the DoD casualty lists trying to match things up but so far I have not been successful.”

“But there is a problem with that as well. If 300 U.S. Soldiers were killed at Camp Falcon along with another 140 wounded, would the Pentagon and DoD report the numbers? Could they possibly cover up an incident this large?”

The lack of U.S. Press attention is more than worrisome, especially since elections are only a couple of days away. Can Rumsfeld order a complete black-out of the year’s greatest disaster and have the entire sycophant press comply? It happened on October 10th, and not a word has passed any of our major news TV services. Would not the voters want to know? Are they not entitled to know? Is this Bush penchant for secrecy and lies not one of our major problems? This is Shock and Awe in reverse.

Are only Bloggers able to rescue the integrity of our nation? Is there no way that we can be told the truth? Is everything lies, slander, stealth, deceit, and corruption in our Administration?

  • I just wanted to add that I wrote an updated posted on my blog here:

Camp Falcon - The Propaganda Wars

    • Pissedonpolitics: I read your blog, which gave a lot of information. I too am frustrated by the varying accounts. We certainly can get no truth out of the Bush administration, whose actions are motivated by lies, stealth, misdirection, aggressivity, denial and bluster. Did we just lose a billion dollars worth of munitions and equipment? Was no one killed, or even injured? Can we ever get Rumsfeld to give us a straight answer? Certainly Bush is incapable of it. I hope that the elections will give Bush the regime change he has been talking about, even if he didn’t know what that meant. Thanks for the blog.

  • Yes, it does suggest how badly the commercial media is failing us. Check out my commentary at www.globalizationstudies.org

  • I can’t continue to blame the MSM for the mess we’re in. That’s too convenient an excuse. The U.S. is far too full of red-necks with blinders on who walk lock-step with this administration no questions asked. In fact, these folks seem to think it’s treasonous and unpatriotic to so much as question a civilian leader — treating them as if they’re all high military commanders or kings! With patriotism like that we’d still be ruled by the Monarchy of England and the Queen would be calling the shots on this side of the Atlantic! That in my mind is the problem. Even if these people were told the truth they would not hear it, or not believe it, or continue to think the high rulers have complete God sanctioned impunity in their decisions.

    • "red-necks" I see that dehuminization is the core of your argument, truely one of the halmarks of fascism. No one questions anyone’s patriotism for asking questions. They question patriotism when someone continually demonizes the country and its every action.

    • Speaking of the Queen, did you know she is the 3rd largest investor in the Carlyle Group, after the Bin Laden family??

  • Nothing really happened and most of the pictures on the net showed US bases elsewhere - one was from Haiti.

Rumsfeld will not have to resign, if the democrats can’t pull off the votes for both houses, only then and may be they will do something. Nancy Pelosi alreday announced that impeachment of Bush is of limits for democrats.

Until then - 7. November - we all will have to wait and see.

  • Of course the Pentagon would lie about this. The bigger the disaster the smaller they’ll claim it was. For them to say only a couple of casualties, sounds ominous all by itself. Fireworks factory accidents often take out a dozen or more people, and this was massive and a million times more deadly than any fireworks factory.

They are lying about casualties all the time though. There are some well informed estimates of actual US deaths being in the order of 10-15 thousand. Not counting the many mercenaries fighting for a green card and the private contractors. One reason the deaths are under counted is they only count as a death in Iraq until evacuation and the second they are on a plane on their way to hospitals in Germany they are no longer counted as an Iraq casualty.

That they have been able to have a complete blackout on the MSM about this is the most scary thing. Here in Oz there is not much about it either and certainly no questions asked about the official casualty figures. Our media is owned and controlled by the usual suspects; of course, so that is no surprise.

On another note, some of those bangs were awesome. I’ll bet those Iraqis had a great old celebration afterwards. Makes my heart warm to think of the profound satisfaction the destruction of Forward Camp Falcon would have brought to some brave and determined men fighting the foreign invaders. Well done fellas, you earned yourselves a beer, or a hookah if you’d prefer. Now sit back and watch the fireworks. ..........Tee Hee.....

    • There was a question earlier about patriotism. If you were from the US I would question your patriotism. But in response to the post about patriotism, I see this kind of post all the time in left leaning blogs. This is a perfect example of what would warrent the questioning of patriotism.

To the post... You are honestly rooting for people who fight out of uniform and try to blend into the population. You are rooting for people who behead prisoners on camera. You are rooting for people who would force women to cover themselves and be accompanied by a male relative at all times. You are rooting for people who force their captives to convert to Islam. You are rooting for the US to lose. You are rooting for my family members to be killed.

You reside in Oz from what you wrote. Perhaps the US should have abandoned you to the Japenese. It makes me sick that my grandfather fought to keep your women from becoming pleasure women.

    • I just wanted to mention that on the night of the attack FOX News on DirecTV channel 360 very briefly reported this event with visual footage...I think it was Shepard Smith who was reporting live from Iraq.

That’s the ONLY coverage I’ve seen on TV thus far.

  • I would take this story - which originated from TBR News (The Barnes Review) - with a huge grain of salt. Anything is possible, however. But an alleged disaster of this magnitude would come out. It would be too big to suppress such a story.

    • Not really a difficult thing. It is easy to suppress any and all events transpriing in Iraq. The FOB Falcon story is a trivial effort in suppression of information.

BTW, FOB Falcon is not the first loss of such magnitude; tell me, do you recall the one that occurred last May?

    • No I don’t recall it

    • The bombing of Cambodia and Laos went on for several years in secret after the fall of Saigon.

I am worried about our soldiers near the falcon base explosions and also the Iraqis who may be poisoned by radioactivity either from a nuke or Depleted Uranium. Notice that the Americans retreated from Baghdad just after this explosion.

Keep reminding people to mention it and maybe there will be a whistleblower.

    • 4 45, Just one question. If the coverup of this alleged 300+ dead disaster is such a "trivial" matter for the US military to handle, how do you explain the existence of the casualty list? I guess, they must have slipped up. BTW - all of the names on that list are made up by the scamsters at TBRNews.
