Ice storm cripples midwestern US

Reuters | Monday, 10 December 2007

An ice storm has struck the central US, grounding hundreds of flights and cutting power to more than 100,000 people, the Associated Press reports.

Five people were killed in traffic accidents blamed on icy roads in Oklahoma, AP said.

Ice storm warnings were issued from Texas to Pennsylvania, AP reported, and one of the country’s busiest airports, Chicago’s O’Hare International, cancelled more than 400 flights due to the weather.

Missouri had declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard to help, AP said. The wintry weather was expected to continue until mid-week.

  • It shows the World how "great" US is - their infrastructure is wrecked and the people live in million dollar card board houses.

    What a joke!

  • This post about the weather is nonsense, as in reporting a normal winter event as something exceptional or enlightening.

Yes, the ice storm came. There is usually one or more throughout winter. Some more severe than others. No big deal.

Yes, there were power outages. And yes, the various electric companies’ crews who are there for just such a purpose fixed them. Again, no big deal. It is cyclical and a natural occurrence.

Yes, flghts were cancelled at O’hare and elsewhere. It was inclement weather after all.

Traffic accidents, yes, there were some. People were out and about and there were accidents due to the weather. Statistically in the norm for winter storm.

To think that the infrastructure was somehow impacted or that it is incapable of handling winter storms and collapse as a result is just so much wishful thinking from the above poster.

It is this kind of nonsense that is common amongst the Left-wing crowd that results in sensible people not wanting to have anything to do with them.
