Special report: Palestine-Israel Conflicts

QUITO, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — Ecuador on Thursday requested the UN issue a condemnation of Israel for "its crimes against Palestinians."

In a statement, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi urged the UN to release "a condemnation of Israel for crimes against humanity."

He called Israeli military actions against Palestinians as "flagrant violations" of international law.

Israel imposed an embargo on food and medicine in Gaza 18 months ago, and has launched airstrikes and later ground operations since Dec. 27, which have killed over 700 Palestinians,Falconi said.

He said Ecuador reaffirmed its call to the UN Security Council to listen to the voices of countries that have demanded urgent and necessary measures to stop the "genocide."

The government saluted all demonstrations showing solidarity with the Palestinian people, the minister said.
