On March 4, 2009, a press conference was held in London and simulcasted to “The Palestine Center” in Washington, D.C. Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of “The Lancet” publication, summaried a report, issued this date, by his group. It is entitled: “Health in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.” The study, part of a series, is the result of “a 2-year collaboration between Palestinian public health scientists, WHO and associated UN agencies,” along with many others. The report documents the “health predicament of the 3.8 million people” existing under Israeli occupation. It further revealed: “The latest Israeli air and ground attacks on Gaza, have plunged the region into a humanitarin crisis...” Mr. Horton added that the ongoing crisis is “destroying a society and killing the future of generations of Palestinians.” The event was cosponsored by the “Vineeta Foundation” and “The Palestine Center,” in collaboration with “The Lancet,” Birzeit U., Medical Aid for Palestinians, and the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health. Ms. Radia Daoussi, MA, MPH, and Brian Hennessey served as co-moderators on the D.C. side of the program. To view the report, go here:
