Prison Governments USA South/Latin America

Mister President Obama

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W.

Washington DC 20500

Mister President,

Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, and René González, have not yet been liberated, they are still rotting away in prison in your country.

You have already, as is the custom at Christmastime, granted a pardon to several convicts – drug traffickers and individuals who have committed fraudulent acts. You haven’t lifted a finger for the five Cubans. They however, these five men, are political prisoners who came to Miami twenty-some years ago to infiltrate Florida’s terrorist underworld – they were struggling to assure the survival of their country.
There must be an intense complicity between the Florida Mafioso and the CIA, that is to say the government you represent, for you to be keeping these men under lock and key!

The end of the year 2010 again brought us flagrant examples of this complicity. Here are two of them, one from the past, the other that augurs badly for the future.

First, the one referring to the past.

The fiftieth anniversary of the “Peter Pan” operation was celebrated on the 12th and 13th of last November at Miami, with great pomp and, by the way, with great emotions. The subject not mentioned during this commemoration was the fact that this operation had been a Machiavellian deed carried out by the C.I.A.On May 18th 2009, that is to say eight years exactly after the death of his father Angel Fernandez Varela, who was a CIA agent at the time, Alvaro F. Fernandez wrote:

« …But what set off a panic among a large number of parents was a rumor that the new revolutionary government was in the process of drafting and implementing a new law that would remove parental rights over their children from Cuban parents. These children would then betaken and sent to the USSR for indoctrination.

Thus was born Operation Pedro Pan. At the time, the CIA, with the help ofthe Catholic Church, drew up a plan that if successful, would help destabilize an insecure and young government and lead to its undoingand eventual overthrow. The pawns in this high stakes game of political chess were 14,048 Cuban children — and their parents.
My father, Angel Fernandez Varela, used to love to watch James Bondmovies. “Oh, if it was only so…” he’d say to me as beautiful movie stars seemed a dime a dozen in Bond’s arms. You see, Angel Fernandez Varela was probably the most important CIA agent of Cuban origin of that failed 1960s era that led to the Bay of Pigs fiasco.Years before his death, in Miami Beach in the presence of my mother, my sister Maria, her husband and me, he told us that he was one ofthe persons responsible for redacting the fakelawthat caused the “removal of parental rights” hysteria. It is whyI know, without a shadow of a doubt, that Operation Pedro Pan was asinister immorality play designed and dreamt up by the CIA before the1961 Bay of Pigs invasion... »
Operation Peter Pan was unfortunately not the only tragedy since Allen Dulles, director of the CIA, created the “Special Forces”, in January 1960, which is in charge of subversive actions against Cuba. Cuba has lived a half a century of sabotage, terrorist attacks and calamities that have been inflicted on it by your country.

The United States has unfortunately not finished with its aggressive policies, not only against Cuba but also against other ALBA countries, to confine ourselves with Latin America.

I now come to the example that concerns the future – the “conspirator’s seminary” that took place in the House of Representatives in the capital at Washington last November 17th, convoked by Florida congress members Ilena Ros-Lehtinen and Connie Mack.

These two elected officials have vowed an unshakable hate for the Cuban revolution and their initiative is a bad omen. Both of them are linked to the FNCA, which is linked to the Mafia and protects terrorists such as Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, to mention only these two. Among those present included the pride of right-wing congressmen from the United States, and several guests among which a number of foreigners, specialists in dirty tricks! The former U.S. ambassadors to Venezuela and Costa Rica, Otto Reich and Jaime Daremblum were also present at this seminary. As well as Roger Noriega, co-author of the Helms-Burton law, the Venezuelan Guillermo Zuloaga, president of Globovision, the most important TV channel of the opposition, who recently demanded to seek political asylum in the United States, Alejandro Aguirre ex-president of the SIP, a precious instrument of the C.I.A. during the Cold War, the Ecuadorian Lucio Gutierrez the specialist in coup d’Etat, John D. Negroponte who became famous during the Iran-Contra scandal, and so many others that it would be too long to name them all.

What kind of terrorist acts are they scheming up one more time in this highly symbolic site in your country, which is supposed to be a guarantor for democracy?

You acknowledge, Mister President, the fact that what these five Cubans were doing in your country couldn’t be more justified! And yet it is them who are imprisoned, when the Mafioso conspire in total security, indeed are even encouraged! How is it that the wives of two of them are refused an entry visa into the United States by your government, thus keeping them from seeing their husbands under the pretext that they are dangerous for the security of your country!

Mister President Obama, you owe it to yourself to grant “executive clemency” to these five men who have been suffering for too long, for more than 12 years now. It is not too late, even if this clemency cannot efface all the years in the prime of youth that they’ve lost in your prisons, but it would be a first step towards the beginnings of justice. Yes you can!

Please receive, Mister President, my most sincere humanitarian sentiments.
