Egyptian writer and lecturer Mona Eltahawy published an article on the current Egyptian revolution entitled “All Egyptians are being liberated from the burden of history”” (The Age, Melbourne, On-line National Times section, 31 January 2011: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/po... ), her key passage being: “But here now finally are our children - Generation Facebook - kicking aside the burden of history, determined to show us just how easy it is to tell the dictator it’s time to go. To understand the importance of what’s going in Egypt, take the barricades of 1968, throw them into a mixer with 1989 and blend to produce the potent brew that the popular uprising in Egypt is preparing to offer the entire region. It’s the most exciting time of my life. I struggle with the magnitude of my feelings as my country revolts and I cry when I hear my father’s accent in the English of Egyptian men screaming at TV cameras through tear gas: ’’I’m doing this for my children. What life is this?””

However the narrative being massaged by the Mainstream media in the Western Murdochracies is that democracy is better than dictatorship and this narrative largely ignores the disastrously malignant effect of the UK, US and US-, UK- and EU-backed Apartheid Israel on Egypt and on the Arab World and the Muslim World of which it is a part.

Indeed Mona Eltahawy states “Meanwhile, the uprisings are curing the Arab world of its obsession with Israel. Successive Arab dictators have tried to keep discontent at bay by distracting people with the Israeli-Arab conflict. Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in 2009 increased global sympathy for Palestinians. Enough with dictators hijacking sympathy for Palestinians and enough with putting our lives on hold for that conflict.”

What does Mona Eltahawy mean by “Meanwhile, the uprisings are curing the Arab world of its obsession with Israel”? Demonstrators in Egypt think otherwise and scrawled Stars of David on overturned police trucks.

Race-based, anti-Arab anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, racist Zionist-run and Western–backed Apartheid Israel remains a dagger pointed at the heart of the Arab World. The Mubarak dictatorship and indeed other dictatorships in the Arab World and the Muslim World have been backed by successive Zionist-beholden US Administrations that have helped bankrupt the US by backing genocidal, race-based Zionist colonization of the Middle East.

In the Palestinian Occupied Territory post-invasion excess deaths total 0.3 million; post-invasion under-5 infant deaths total 0.2 million; 3,600 Palestinian infants perish avoidably each year from Israeli-imposed deprivation; 800,000 children are abusively and indefinitely imprisoned simply for their race in what the Catholic Church calls the Gaza Concentration Camp and which the UK PM David Cameron and outstanding Jewish American scholar Professor Noam Chomsky both call a Prison (see "Palestinian Genocide": http://sites.google.com/site/palest...).

There are over 7 million Palestinian refugees. Out of about 12 million Palestinians only adults among 1.5 million Palestinian Israelis are permitted to vote in Apartheid Israel-run Palestine and then only as second class citizens subject to race-based discrimination laws; 6 million Palestinian refugees outside Palestine are forbidden to even live in their country; 4 million Occupied Palestinians have no human rights and the Hamas MPs elected in the overwhelming Hamas victory in the 2006 elections held under Israeli guns (76 Hamas MPs out of 132 total) have been variously imprisoned, tortured, killed, exiled or holed up in the Gaza Concentration Camp by the Israelis (see the recent multi-author book "The Plight of the Palestinians. A long history of destruction" (edited by Professor William Cook, Palgrave Macmillan, London, 2010): http://mwcnews.net/focus/analysis/4... and also see "Palestinian Genocide": http://sites.google.com/site/palest...).

Yet Sadat and Mubarak recognized the race-based State of Israel if only to get the Israelis to cease their illegal and criminal occupation of a slab of Egypt. US-backed Mubarak has cooperated with the Zionist-backed US devastation of the Arab and Muslim world from Occupied Somalia to robot-bombed NW Pakistan.

The ongoing, US-imposed Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide has cost 4.4 million lives (1990-2011) and the Afghan Holocaust and Afghan Genocide has taken 4.5 million lives (2003-2011) (see “Iraqi Holocaust, Iraqi Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/iraqih... , “Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/afghan... and “Muslim Holocaust, Muslim Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/muslim... ).

However the 1950-2005 avoidable deaths from deprivation in countries occupied by Apartheid Israel total 24 million and 1950-2005 avoidable deaths from deprivation in all countries militarily attacked by this racist rogue state total 56 million, the breakdown being Egypt (19.8 million), Jordan (0.6 million), Lebanon (0.5 million), Occupied Palestinian Territories (0.7 million), and Syria (2.2 million) (Israel’s immediate neighbours) plus Tunisia (1.6 million), Uganda (11.1 million), Iraq (5.3 million), Libya (0.8 million) and Sudan (13.5 million) (this totaling an estimated 62 million for the period 1950-2011).

Aggressive, violent and racist Apartheid Israel has made a huge contribution to this disaster by forcing Arab nations to divert billions into defence rather than into health, education and infrastructure.

Western hegemony has had a disastrous effect on the Third World and the Muslim World. Thus 1990-2005 avoidable deaths total 1.3 billion (the World), 1.2 billion (the non-European World) and 0.6 billion (the Muslim World) in a Muslim Holocaust 100 times greater than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million killed, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation) or the “forgotten”, erased-from-history WW2 Bengali Holocaust in which 6-7 million Indians were deliberately starved to death by the British (see my book "Body Count. Global voidable mortality since 1950" , G.M. Polya, Melbourne, 2007, and "Global avoidable mortality": http://globalavoidablemortality.blo... ).

And all of the foregoing will be minor compared to the worsening Climate Genocide in which it is estimated that 10 billion non-Europeans will perish due to un-addressed , man-made global warming, this including 6 billion infants, 3 billion Muslims in a near-terminal, 21st century Muslim Holocaust, 2 billion Indians, 1.3 billion non-Arab Africans, 0.5 billion Bengalis, 0.3 billion Pakistanis and 0.3 billion Bangladeshis (see “Climate Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/climat... ).

I sent the following carefully researched comment to The Age about Mona Eltahawy’s article but while The Age is arguably Australia’s most liberal Mainstream medium, the last time I looked it had apparently declined to publish my carefully researched views while publishing about 20 views of mostly anonymous bloggers. The following apparently censored comments can be reasonably taken to indicate what The Age does not want its readers to read or to know (for more examples of such censorship by The Age see “Mainstream media censorship”: http://msmcensorship.blogspot.com/).

“Excellent article. One hopes that the Egyptian people will throw out the US-backed, pro-Israel Mubarak dictatorship and achieve a genuine democracy, setting an example for the whole Arab world.

A key aspect of the dead hand of Anglo-American and Anglo-American-backed Israeli domination of the Arab world is the deadly deprivation of 300 million Arabs outside the Gulf States. This has a dreadful consequence measured as avoidable mortality (excess mortality, excess deaths, avoidable death, deaths that did not have to happen) that can be measured using UN data as the difference between the actual deaths in a country and the deaths expected fro a decently governed, peaceful country with same demographics.

Annual avoidable mortality in Egypt under Mubarak has been 0.22% (2003 data), this meaning today that each year 180,000 Egyptians die avoidably from deprivation out of a population of 82 million and that about 16 million have died avoidably from deprivation since 1950 (see "Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950").

The annual avoidable death rate of 0.22% for Egyptians under Mubarak can be compared with 0.0% (Arab Gulf States), 0.05% for Western Europe, 0.38% (South Asia), 0.97% (non-Arab Africa) and 1.8% (Indigenous Australians).

Of acute relevance to the Egyptian tragedy is the 50% increase in international cereal grain prices in the last year (Google "World Food Situation").

Anglo-American-backed, genocidal colonization of Palestine, US-backed Israeli occupation of territory of all its neighbours, US backing of Arab dictators and the Anglo-American-imposed Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide (4.4 million dead, 1990-2011) has devastated the Arab world.

All decent folk hope that Egypt will arise again.”

Extraordinarily, at the time of writing the whole article by Mona Eltahawy seems to have disappeared from The Age On-line National Times section – is The Age now censoring its own writers on behalf of the Zionists?
