STOP THE OBAMA WARS : TUESDAY 24 MAY 5.30PM
BUCKINGHAM PALACE LONDON SW1A 1AA
Called by Stop the War and CND

President Obama is visiting Britain next week. It is important he
and the world understand that the wars in Afghanistan and Libya
are deeply unpopular here.

Far from bringing an end to George Bush’s wars, President Obama
has presided over attacks on Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia and Libya,
as well as the continuing occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He
is spending more on military operations than any previous US
President.

The latest war in Libya is in stalemate, despite Nato having made
over 2000 bombing raids. The International Crisis Group has just
reported that the war is making progress to democracy less likely
in Libya, and creating huge numbers of civilian casualties. (SEE

Despite the death of bin Laden, Nato continues to escalate the
war in Afghanistan. This week, a night raid killed four
civilians in northern Afghanistan, which provoked anti-US
demonstrations of several thousand. Afghan government forces shot
dead 10 of the protesters and injured 50 more. (SEE

Obama’s promises to "reach out" to the Muslim world and make a
priority finding a path to peace for Palestinians, have proved to
be worth less than the breath that uttered them, with nearly all
of the six countries he has attacked being Muslim, and Israel
allowed to continue its flagrant violation of countless
international laws.

Obama’s latest speech on the Arab Spring uprisings was just
another round of his windy rhetoric. His statement that, "The
United States opposes the use of violence and repression against
the people of the region", will have provoked more than a few
gnashing teeth across the Arab and Muslim world, given how it is
America that has supported the dictators and despots doing most
of the repressing over the past decades. (SEE Arming despots:

Rather than being a candidate for "change", Obama has continued
most of George W Bush’s "war on terror" policies, and in some
cases extended them. The demonstration next Tuesday, when Obama
is at Buckingham Palace, will call for an end to the three wars
he is now waging, all of them opposed by large majorities in both
the US and Britain.

PLEASE NOTE: LONDON GUANTÁNAMO CAMPAIGN
We will be protesting at Buckingham Palace alongside the London
Guantánamo Campaign demonstration, which will be calling for
Shaker Aamer’s release and the closure of Guantánamo. (SEE
