What Was Mary Anderson’s Personal Involvement In Pinkerton Academy Sex Crime Cov

by WireNews+Co - Open-Publishing - Monday 5 August 2013

School failed to report teacher-student sexual abuse to police

WireNews+Co, in reporting through a series of articles exposing the failure of Pinkerton Academy to report a serious, historical, sex crime that took place in the late 70’s, has focused on the actual events. Diane E. Kanady (formerly Burrell and Foster but known as "Deb" or "Debbie" i.e. Diane E. Burrell) was fired from her position at Pinkerton when it became known that she had groomed and sexually abused a male student on a supposed ’school outing’ at Bretton Woods ski resort.

Reporting then concentrated on the fact that shortly after Pinkerton Academy was made aware of a potential civil claim against the school, the school’s headmaster, Mary A. Anderson (shown here) announced, in January 2013, that she would retire.

It was expected that Anderson would serve out her contract until the end of the 2014 school year, but immediately following the filing of the criminal complaint, Pinkerton’s Board of Trustees appointed Carney, Sandoe & Associates to locate a replacement for its Headmaster. No one at Pinkerton Academy or Carney Sandoe would confirm or deny the allegation that Anderson’s departure was being expedited following police involvement.

UK authorities have forwarded the victim’s complaint through Interpol to police in the United States.

According to Harry Burnham, president of the Board of Trustees, Anderson was the first female Headmaster in the Academy’s history and has been with the ’Academy’ for 40 years.

Starting as a teacher, Anderson would have known the other teachers working for Pinkerton well in the 70’s. Pinkerton, a very small ’school’ at the time, did not employ many teachers and had far fewer students that it does now. The crime took place a little more than 34 years ago. Anderson would have been in her position at the Academy for 6 or more years.

In fact, both Mrs. Foster, as the former teacher was known then, and Anderson started working at Pinkerton at approximately the same time.

Pinkerton refused to confirm when Anderson became headmaster and WireNews+Co was unable to locate publicly held information to confirm the date of her appointment.

It may be that a newly appointed headmaster chose to hide the sex abuse of one of its teacher (perhaps a good friend of hers) to protect her rapid advancement. Even if Anderson was merely a colleague of Foster, she would have been aware of the former teacher’s ’relationship’ with her student, which continued long after Foster was fired from her job.

Either way, it appears that Anderson’s involvement precipitated her retirement and the recent police and Interpol involvement has ratcheted up the headmaster’s departure.
