Zionist Australian Government threatens anti-racist Jewish academics over BDS

The new climate criminal, anti-environment, effective climate change denialist and extreme right wing Coalition Government of Australia is threatening to ban boycotts by environmentalists against companies involved in environmental devastation. However it has also foreshadowed cutting off any Federal funding for any academic who supports Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel. Since some of the leading Australian proponents of BDS are anti-racist Jewish Australian scholars, this repugnant Coalition policy threatens termination of the professional careers and university employment of anti-racist Jewish academics.

On circa 26 May 2013, 4 months before the 7 September 2014 Federal Election, Julie Bishop (then Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party-National Party Coalition Opposition and now Foreign Minister of Australia) told the pro-Zionist Murdoch-owned newspaper The Australian: "The Coalition will institute a policy across government that ensures no grants of taxpayers’ funds are provided to individuals or organisations which actively support the BDS campaign… It is inappropriate for Associate Professor Lynch to use his role as director of the taxpayer-funded CPACS [Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Sydney] . . . in support of the anti-Semitic BDS campaign." [1].

Dan Goldberg writing in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on 27 August 2013 stated: “Jewish community leaders in Australia have virtually abandoned support for the governing Labor Party, with most privately hoping the conservative Liberal Party wins the federal election next weekend. The near consensus in favor of Tony Abbott to replace Kevin Rudd as the nation’s next PM comes as the Liberal Party reportedly plans to upgrade relations with Jerusalem, make visa applications easier for Israelis, ban more terror groups and stop financial support to any organization that supports the boycott Israel campaign.” [2].

Professor Jake Lynch: “The number two in the incoming government has vowed to use the coercive power of the state to stifle dissent on a contested policy issue… According to Julie Bishop, shadow foreign minister and deputy Liberal leader, I and other supporters of an academic boycott of Israel will be penalised under the Coalition, by having our access to public research funds summarily cut off… The charge of anti-semitism [against BDS supporters] fails its only salient test. The target of BDS is not Jews or Judaism, but militarism and lawlessness. A systematic study by an international expert panel found that discriminatory laws and practices, confining non-Jews to second-class status, do indeed put Israel in breach of the Apartheid Convention. That obliges governments to "co-operate to end the violation; not to recognise the illegal situation arising from it; and not to render aid or assistance to the State committing it", as the report – commissioned by the social science research council of South Africa – points out.” [3].

International law expert Professor John Dugard (Professor of International Law, Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, 15-Nobel-Laureate Leiden University, The Netherlands) on the overwhelmingly UN approved Apartheid Convention: “The Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid (hereinafter Apartheid Convention) has it roots in the opposition of the United Nations to the discriminatory racial policies of the South African Government – known as apartheid – which lasted from 1948 to 1990. Apartheid was annually condemned by the General Assembly as contrary to Articles 55 and 56 of the Charter of the United Nations from 1952 until 1990; and was regularly condemned by the Security Council after 1960. In 1966, the General Assembly labelled apartheid as a crime against humanity (resolution 2202 A (XXI) of 16 December 1966) and in 1984 the Security Council endorsed this determination (resolution 556 (1984) of 23 October 1984). The Apartheid Convention was the ultimate step in the condemnation of apartheid as it not only declared that apartheid was unlawful because it violated the Charter of the United Nations, but in addition it declared apartheid to be criminal. The Apartheid Convention was adopted by the General Assembly on 30 November 1973, by 91 votes in favour, four against (Portugal, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States) and 26 abstentions. It came into force on 18 July 1976. As of August 2008, it has been ratified by 107 States.” [4].

Since 1941 Australia has been very tightly allied to the US and since the 1975 US-backed Coup against the Whitlam Labor Government (that was opposed to the Vietnam War), the Labor Party has recognized that the only way it can get elected is to slavishly adhere to the Liberal Party-National Party Coalition policy of “all the way with the USA”. When Labor Leader Mark Latham announced he would bring Australian soldiers back from Iraq “by Christmas” he was publicly vetoed by the US Ambassador, lost the 2004 elections and has been sustainedly attacked by Mainstream media ever since. In 2010 Labor PM Kevin Rudd raised the ire of the Zionist Lobby by mildly slapping the Israeli wrist for forgoing Australian passports and kidnapping Australians in international waters. On 24 June 2010 he was deposed in a US approved, foreign mining company-backed, pro-Zionist-led Coup (the present leader of the Labor Party, Bill Shorten, is a pro-Zionist and has been critically involved in Coups against 2 popularly elected Australian Labor PMs, PM Kevin Rudd in 2010 and PM Julia Gillard in 2013).

Labor and the Coalition, these 2 dominant, neoliberal, pro-war, pro-Zionist, war criminal, pro-coal, pro-gas, climate criminal, anti-science, US lackey political groupings, together get about 80% of the vote, are collectively referred to as the Lib-Labs or Liberal-Laborals, and have basically very similar neoliberal policies but Labor covers its egregious indecency with disingenuous rhetoric and spin. Thus Labor and the Coalition have identical climate criminal policies of a derisory “5% off 2000 greenhouse gas pollution by 2020” coupled with unlimited coal and gas exports that will see Australia exceed by a factor of three (3) the whole world’s terminal Greenhouse Gas (GHG) pollution budget that must not be exceeded if we are to have a 75% chance of avoiding a catastrophic 2C temperature rise.

Unfortunately, since the 1970s the US itself has become enthralled by Apartheid Israel abroad and by traitorous racist Zionist supporters at home. The horrendous financial cost of Israel to Americans has now reached a gigantic $40 trillion in today’s dollars. However the human cost involves the preventable deaths of millions of Americans – passive mass murder of Americans in an American Holocaust inflicted by the fiscal perversion of traitorous Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist One Percenters committing $8-10 trillion to ethnic cleansing and active and passive mass murder of Muslims abroad in support of Apartheid Israel instead of keeping Americans alive at home. Zionist-subverted American Government support for Apartheid Israel in circa 2008 dollars totals about $40 trillion, the breakdown being (1) $3 trillion (1948-2003), (2) $4-6 trillion (Zionist-promoted Iraq and Afghan Wars), (3) $0.7 trillion (Value of a Statistical Life- or VSL-based cost of 88,000 US veteran suicides since September 2001) and (4) about $30 trillion (one quarter of the VSL-based cost of 15.6 million preventable American deaths since September 2001). This is an under-estimate because it does not consider the millions of preventable American deaths before 9-11 linked to Zionist subversion and perversion of America. [5].

Australia has also suffered an immense loss from the Zionist-promoted War on Terror. Thus it is estimated that the long-term, accrual cost to Australia of the War on Terror is about $125 billion (noting that Australia’s annual GDP is about $1,500 billion, Australia’s gross government debt is $426 billion and Australia’s net government debt is about $185 billion) and that this immense fiscal perversion is linked to the preventable deaths of 66,000 Australians annually or roughly 0.8 million Australian preventable deaths since 9-11 [6], an atrocity that involved the US Government and possibly involved America’s dirty tricks surrogate Apartheid Israel [7].

Because America is now politically dominated by Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist One Percenters, the bipartisan Australian political “sine qua non” of “all the away with the USA” now also involves near-total support for Apartheid Israel that is dressed up with politically correct and disingenuous assurances that Australia wants peace in the Middle East, want peace talks and wants a “2-state solution” for Israel-Palestine. The latter is now impossible because Apartheid Israel has now ethnically cleansed about 90% of the land of the former Mandatory Palestine.

Here are some of the awful realities that Lib-Lab Australia ignores in its slavish support for genocidally racist Zionism and for nuclear terrorist, racist Zionist–run, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel. In 1880 there were about 500,000 Arab Palestinians and about 25,000 Jews living in Palestine of whom half were immigrants. Genocidally racist Zionists have been responsible for 2 million Palestinian deaths since 1936 from violence (0.1 million) or from violently-imposed deprivation (1.9 million). There are 7 million Palestinian refugees and of 12 million Palestinians about 50% are forbidden to even step foot in their own country, only 13% (Palestinian Israelis) are permitted to vote for the government ruling all of the former Mandatory Palestine(albeit as Third Class citizens under race-based, Nazi-style Israeli Apartheid laws) and the remainder have zero human rights as Occupied Palestinians in West Bank Bantustans or in the Gaza Concentration Camp (where half the imprisoned Palestinians are children and of these 10% are stunted because of the Israeli blockade) [8-10].

Apartheid Israel crimes extend well beyond its internationally recognized borders. It is a nuclear terrorist rogue state with 200 nuclear weapons and has also developed biological and chemical weapons. Indeed Apartheid Israel helped Apartheid South Africa acquire nuclear weapons and used chemical weapons in the 2008-2009 Gaza Massacre in which it killed 1,400 Palestinians including 300 children, wounded 5,000, destroyed a huge amount of civilian infrastructure and housing and used chemical weapons, namely phosphorous bombs , to burn Palestinians alive. While the US has invaded 70 nations since 1776, US-backed Apartheid Israel has militarily attacked 12 countries (this including attacks on planes and outside Israeli territory ) namely, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Tunisia, Uganda, Sudan, Turkey, and the United States). Apartheid Israel has occupied the territory of their countries, namely Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, and 1950-2005 avoidable deaths in countries occupied by Apartheid Israel total 24 million [11].

Apartheid Israel has not confined its obscene racist violence to Muslims, 12 million of whom have died from violence or war-imposed violence in the Zionist-promoted post-1990 US War on Muslims and 10 million of whom have died thus in the post-2001 Zionist-promoted US War on Terror [12]. Apartheid Israel has also been involved in the Guatemala Indian Genocide, the Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka, other dirty tricks around the world, and possibly in the 9-11 atrocity against America [7].

Australia has also been a victim of Israeli state terrorism. Thus Israeli state terrorists have repeatedly forged Australian passports for deadly terrorism purposes; have repeatedly kidnapped Australians in international waters; have subverted and perverted Australians to serve in the war criminal Israel Defence Forcer (IDF) and to spy on other countries, including Australia; and are in receipt of a huge amount of data from large-scale, Australia-complicit US spying on Australians and others as revealed by Edward Snowden [13]. Apartheid Israel has been a major player in the world distribution of the synthetic drug Ecstasy and in the illegal trade in human body parts. Apartheid Israel and its traitorous supporters have perverted the major parties, this involving the use of the proceeds of crime, and have subverted universities, and other institutions. I have sent a detailed, documented dossier on 50 ways in which racist Zionists threaten Australia to MPs and the Australian Federal Police but the silence has been deafening [14, 15].

In particular Apartheid Israel and its traitorous supporters have subverted and perverted Mainstream media, including taxpayer –funded media such as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (the ABC) and the universities-backed, academic based web magazine The Conversation, of which both have an appalling record of censoring information and audience comment critical of the horrendous crimes of democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel. I have assiduously detailed Mainstream media censorship by the global Murdoch media empire, Australian Fairfax media, the Australian ABC, the UK BBC, and the Australian universities-backed web magazine The Conversation in Neocon American- and Zionist Imperialist-perverted and subverted Murdochracy, Lobbyocracy and Corporatocracy Australia and elsewhere in the West. The common elements of the censorship relate to the horrendous crimes of Apartheid Israel and of Zionist-dominated America [16-23].

Australia has an appalling secret genocide history but politically correct racist (PC racist) Australia steadfastly “looks the other way”. White Australia’s past and present involvements in 30 genocidal atrocities are overwhelmingly not reported by holocaust-ignoring and genocide-ignoring Australian Mainstream media nor taught in Australia ’s schools and universities. Thus the recently launched 2 volume work “The Cambridge History of Australia” comprehensively fails to mention the “Elephant in the room” of White Australia’s appalling past and continuing involvements in horrendous genocide and holocaust atrocities, including the ongoing Palestinian Genocide and the ongoing Bedouin Genocide [24].

For anti-racist Jews and indeed all anti-racist humanitarians the core, inescapable, inviolable moral messages from the Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million dead, 1 in 6 dying from deprivation) and from the more general WW2 European Holocaust (30 million Slav, Jewish and Gypsy dead) are “zero tolerance for racism”, “never again to anyone”, “bear witness” and “zero tolerance for lying”.
Anti-racist Jewish Australians have a fundamental obligation to speak out against the horrendous, genocidal crimes being perpetrated against the Palestinians by nuclear terrorist, racist Zionist-run, democracy-by -genocide Apartheid Israel, for to do otherwise would be to betray the memory of the martyred 30 million and to "walk by on the other side" as in the parable of the Good Samaritan told by that wonderful Palestinian Jesus.

Persecution of pro-BDS Jewish academics by the extreme right wing Coalition Government would constitute egregious anti-Jewish anti-Semitism in addition to its murderous war criminal, anti-Arab anti-Semitism as a slavish supporter of the Zionist-promoted US War on Terror that has been associated so far with 10 million Muslim deaths from violence or from violently-imposed deprivation [12].

For alphabetically-organized compendia of the views of outstanding anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish scholars and writers who condemn Apartheid Israel’s ongoing Palestinian Genocide and variously advocate Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel see “Non-Jews Against Racist Zionism” [25]. "Jews Against Racist Zionism" [26], “Palestinian Genocide” [8] and “Boycott Apartheid Israel” [10].

Academics needs research funds to research and thence publish - academics who don’t publish are eventually sacked (the so-called academic “publish or perish” culture). Decent anti-racist Jews fervently and inescapably adhere to the post-WW2 Holocaust proposition "Never again to anyone" and many accordingly support BDS against nuclear terrorist, serial war criminal, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel. The adumbrated Coalition policy will remove courageous and committed anti-racist Jewish academics from their scholarly careers and Australian universities, this being redolent of European anti-Jewish anti-Semitism prior to 1945 – and all this while variously falsely defaming them as “anti-Semites” for demanding peaceful BDS against Apartheid Israel as was successfully applied against Apartheid South Africa.

Thus, by way of example of REAL anti-Jewish anti-Semitism applying to notable scholars among my Jewish Hungarian relatives, my great grandfather Dr Jakab Polya née Pollak (an eminent economist, author and and academician who translated Adam Smith’s “The Wealth of Nations” into Hungarian) had to change his family name and religion to survive professionally ; my grandfather Professor Jeno Polya (a world-famous surgeon) was persecuted by the Fascists and eventually murdered by the Hungarian Nazis; my great-uncle Professor George Polya (a famous mathematician and author of “How to Solve It”) was exiled from his native land under threat of death [27, 28]; my father Dr John Polya (a resolute free speech advocate and academic scientist ) was exiled and all but a dozen of his numerous relatives were murdered [29, 30, 31]; an uncle Michael Polya fled Fascist Hungary pre-war and later translated Jeno Polya’s “The Story of Medical Science” into English [32]; my grandmother’s cousin Dr Edith Bone successively fled Fascist Hungary, Nazi Germany, and Fascist Spain and then endured 7 years of highly abusive imprisonment post-war by Hungarian Stalinists (her book “Seven Years Solitary“ was to inspire a young Aung San Suu Kyi [33, 34]); my father’s cousin Dr Gabor Ervin, an author, psychologist, lecturer and Catholic priest who courageously tried to save fellow Jewish Hungarians was eventually captured and killed as were his mother and brothers (a book on this hero was recently published and a seminar held in 2013 at Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest, to honor his all too short life [35] ).

Yet the Mainstream academics, journalists and politicians ignore the realities and are happy to trot out the routine false defamation of “anti-Semite” applied by pro-Zionists to decent, anti-racist Jews and non-Jews critical of the horrendous crimes of Apartheid Israel. They ignore the protestations against Israeli crimes from numerous anti-racist Jews from Hannah Arendt to Howard Zinn [26] and of outstanding anti-racist non-Jews such as Nobel Laureates Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, José Saramago, .Jimmy Carter and Mairead Maguire [25].

Thus numerous Jewish artists, writers and scholars have publicly support BDS against Apartheid Israel in well-publicized letters [36, 37]. The racist Zionist-promoted false defamation of outstanding, anti-racist Jewish intellectuals as “anti-Semites” or as “self-hating Jews” can be readily seen as anti-Jewish anti-Semitism.

Thus outstanding anti-racist Jewish American scholar Professor Bertell Ollman (New York University) on required actions against racist Zionism: “Politically, this means avoiding any association with this "rogue state" whatsoever (as we did with South Africa earlier), boycotting it economically and otherwise (keeping it out of the Olympics, for example), bringing pressure on our politicians to stop all U.S. aid (private as well as public) to Israel, supporting various sanctions (including trade sanctions) against it, calling for the strongest possible resolutions at the U.N. and in all other available forums denouncing Zionist human rights abuses, and, of course, confronting head-on the Zionist lobby that would oppose all this… An all out struggle against Zionism by Jews, therefore, is also the most effective way to fight against real anti-Semitism. Furthermore, if Zionism is indeed a particularly virulent form of nationalism and, increasingly, of racism and if Israel is acting toward its captive minority in ways that resemble more and more how the Nazis treated their Jews, then we must also say so. For obvious reasons, the Zionists are very sensitive about being compared to the Nazis (not so sensitive that it has restrained them in their actions but enough to bellow "unfair" and to charge "anti-Semitism" when it happens). Yet, the facts on the ground, when not obscured by one or another Zionist rationalization, show that the Zionists are the worst anti-Semites in the world today, oppressing a Semitic people as no nation has done since the Nazis.” [38].

Australians should take the advice of outstanding ant-racist Jewish and non-Jewish scholars who condemn Israeli racism . Indeed Australia’s most famous Jewish public figure, Sir Isaac Isaacs, the first Australian-born Governor General of Australia, stated unequivocally in the 1940s: “The honour of Jews throughout the world demands the renunciation of political Zionism… the Zionist movement as a whole...now places its own unwarranted interpretation on the Balfour Declaration, and makes demands that are arousing the antagonism of the Moslem world of nearly 400 millions, thereby menacing the safety of our Empire, endangering world peace and imperiling some of the most sacred associations of the Jewish, Christian, and Moslem faiths. Besides their inherent injustice to others these demands would, I believe, seriously and detrimentally affect the general position of Jews throughout the world." [39].

Australians need to make a choice between the wisdom of outstanding anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish scholars and leaders who condemn Israeli Apartheid versus the views of war criminal racists running nuclear terrorist, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel, noting that the genocidal Zionists collaborated with the Nazis and were involved in terrorist killing of British servicemen before, during and after World War 2.

If this Coalition policy is realized then Australian academic freedom and academic reputation will be further severely prejudiced, noting that many Australian universities are already compromised by collaborating in Israeli military research and backing the academic–based web magazine The Conversation that , like the ABC, has applied sidelining, censorship, blocking and egregiously false defamation to anti-racist Jewish opinion critical of Apartheid Israel [40].

Unless the Coalition unequivocally rejects and abjectly apologizes for this disgraceful policy and sacks its Coalition proponents, decent anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish Australians, impelled by "Never again to anyone" and defence of their colleagues and families, will call on all existing and prospective Australian voters to put an utterly repugnant Coalition last. Indeed, apprised of these awful realities and Australian Government intention to punish and persecute anti-racist Jews, many people who hold to the post-Holocaust crie de coeur “Never again to anyone” may apply BDS against not just Apartheid Israel but against all people, politicians, presstitutes, parties, collectives, companies and corporations that fail to denounce democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel and its ongoing Palestinian Genocide.

The Australian Right has an awful racist history including the ongoing Aboriginal Genocide, support for genocidal British colonial atrocities, support for the White Australia Policy, support for all post-1950 US Asian Wars (38 million Asian dead from violence or war-imposed deprivation), and support for the New White Australia Policy (the Coalition Government wants Israelis to join the Whites and honorary Whites for fast-track electronic visas whereas African, Asian and Latin American non-Whites and some poor Whites will continue to be actively discouraged and discriminated against). The Australian Right has a history of determined attempts to ban socialism and a remorseless and endless campaign to emasculate trade unions. Socialism is now a dirty word in Australia even in the Labor Party, only about 15% of workers belong to trade unions, and the trade union movement and the Labor Party are both now dominated by neoliberal, rightwing trade unions.

Now the Australian Right is set to cut off research funds from anti-racist Jewish academics, stifle their research and see their jobs terminated and careers ruined. The words of anti-Nazi German hero Pastor Martin Niemöller re the Nazi era now have a new meaning for politically correct racist (PC racist), neoliberal-dominated Australia in the 21st century:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Speak out and take action in defence of anti-racist Jewish Australian academics and indeed in defence of all anti-racist scholars and of environmental activists threatened by foreshadowed Australian anti-boycott laws.
