Thursday April the 17th is the Palestinian Prisoners Day

by Open-Publishing - Wednesday 16 April 2014

The detention of thousands of Palestinians is not the only weapon used by the Israeli occupier to cope with the resistance of the Palestinian people, but it is certainly among the most cruel ones.

Not a day, not a night passes without witnessing those Israeli soldiers invade the towns and villages of occupied Palestine, and take away their load of hostages to an unknown destination.

There are currently almost 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, hundreds of them being held in so-called « administrative retention », that is, for unlimited time without even being put on trial. Among those prisoners, more than 200 are children, often serving lengthly prison terms on the suspicion of having thrown a stone while defending their own home. They are systematically subject to inhumane treatment, including torture.

It is probably no coincidence that the Israeli occupier chose the prisoners’ issue to engage in one of its most recent provocations : namely, when a few days ago, the Netanyahu government grossly violated its own commitment to free 25 long time Palestinian prisoners.

Here was the only « condition » put forward by the very weak Palestinian Authority for accepting to go on with the farce another round of so-called « negociations », that maintain the fiction that a peace process is actually underway, while letting Israel pursue its business of destroying the Palestinian society, in Gaza, in Jerusalem and in the West Bank altogether.

We do not have the right, because the night is too dark, to let the Palestinian people down.

Therefore, in every possible place, we should stand up and rally on the occasion of the Palestinian prisoners’ day, on Thursday April the 17th, and convey to them the message that they are not alone.

(In PARIS, a rally will take place, from 5PM to 7PM Place de La Fontaine Saint-Michel, Métro Saint-Michel, Ligne 4)

Best wishes,

CAPJPO-EuroPalestine
