The Guardian Australia censors the Iraqi Genocide renewed by the US & Australia

by Dr Gideon Polya - Open-Publishing - Sunday 31 August 2014

Iraq has now suffered 100 years of Anglo invasion and hegemony. 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the British invasion of Iraq in November 1914 and the commencement of a century of Anglo devastation and ongoing ethnic cleansing in Iraq. The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) assisted the British invasion of Iraq in 1915 and its soldiers unwittingly commenced the Palestinian Genocide with the Surafend Massacre in 1918. Australia was involved in the US-led 1990-2003 Sanctions War during which 1.7 million Iraqis died from imposed deprivation and 1.2 million under-5 Iraqi infants died (90% avoidably and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention) [1, 2]. US lackey Australian special forces spearheaded the illegal and war criminal US-UK invasion of Iraq in March 2003 that resulted in 2.7 million Iraqi deaths from violence (1.5 million) or violently-imposed deprivation (1.2 million) and a further 0.8 million Iraqi under-5 infant deaths [1]. The US and its cowardly lackey Australia are now re-invading Iraq but complicit Mainstream media ignore and censor the Iraqi Genocide.

After 2 decades of devastating Iraq, the US and US lackey Australia have now re-invaded Iraq with return of soldiers as security guards, selective air supply of humanitarian aid, 800 US “military advisers”, US bombing of Iraq (adumbrated to extend to Syria in addition to US-armed Israeli bombing in Syria), Australian air supply of weapons to the Kurds, and critical Australian targeting of US drone strikes in Iraq (and elsewhere) via its joint US-Australian Pine Gap spying facility in Central Australia.

What must be described as a continuing, Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide has involved the following devastation over the last quarter century alone:

(1). for the US Occupation period of 2003- 2011: 2.7 million post-invasion war-related deaths, 1.5 million violent deaths, 1.2 million non-violent excess deaths from war-imposed deprivation, and 0.8 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths;

(2). for the Gulf War and Sanctions period of period 1990-2003: 0.2 million violent deaths, 1.7 million non-violent excess deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 1.2 million under-5 infant deaths;

(3). for the overall period of 1990-2011: 4.6 million war-related deaths, 1.7 million violent deaths, 2.9 million deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 5-6 million refugees, and 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention) [2]; and

(4). for 2011 onwards: about 0.5 million deaths from war- and violence-linked deprivation, and as yet an undetermined number of deaths from violence in the Sunni-Shia sectarian violence, and as of 2014 from Australia-assisted US bombing.

Exploiting barbaric acts by the IS Sunni rebels, the US and its cowardly US lackey Australia have returned soldiers and air force planes to Iraq, and the US has intervened in the civil war with renewed massive bombing of Iraq and with Australia-assisted drone strikes, with Australia now committing to air-supply of weapons to the Kurds and with Australian air force bombing a much-touted possibility.

Australia Mainstream media and MPs are beating the drums of war with extravagant hyperbole and selective reportage. Thus, for example, pro-war, pro-Zionist and slavishly pro-US Australian PM Tony Abbott: “Should we be asked, we would want to look at any request in the light of achievable objectives, a clear role for Australian forces, a full risk assessment and an overall humanitarian objective. But I do wish to say … that no one in this Parliament I am sure, no human being anywhere, would wish to stand by and watch the preventable slaughter of innocent people. This [i.e. IS] is as near to pure evil as we are ever likely to see" [3].

’The Sydney Morning Herald reports: “Australia has so far provided only humanitarian support in the form of an air-drop to stranded Yazidi refugees. Fairfax Media understands that the Pine Gap [joint US-Australian telecommunications and spying] facility in central Australia is being used to direct drone strikes against militants in Iraq. And the US is understood to have asked Australia, along with other countries, about a fortnight ago to consider providing weapons and equipment to Kurds in northern Iraq who are battling the Islamic State” [3]. Australia has just announced that it will supply weapons to the Kurds.

Indeed the US has indicate that it reserves the “right” to bomb Syria and no doubt will be joined in this by the war criminal Australian Lib-Labs (Liberal-Laborals, the Coalition Government and the Labor Right that dominates the Labor Opposition ). The racist, war criminal, militant, extremist, Australian Lib-Lab Right evidently just loves killing Asians – Australia has been involved in all post-1950 US Asian wars, atrocities that have been associated, so far, with 40 million Asian deaths from violence or war-imposed deprivation [1].

In 2005 anti-racist Jewish British writer Harold Pinter in his Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech stated: “We have brought torture, cluster bombs, depleted uranium, innumerable acts of random murder, misery, degradation and death to the Iraqi people and call it ’bringing freedom and democracy to the Middle East’. How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice” [4].

For the US and its lackey Australia to renew bombing Iraq in the absence of (a) UN permission and (b) no clear threat to the US and Australia from the Sunni rebels would be illegal and a further egregious war crime against the Iraqi people under International Law.

To paraphrase Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter, “How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal 4.6 million? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that the US, UK and Australian war criminals be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice”.

Of course Iraq is just 1 of 70 countries that have been invaded and devastated by the US since 1776 [5]. The UK has invaded about 172 countries [6] and France has invaded 80 [7]. Australia as a UK lackey or (since 1941) a US lackey has invaded scores of countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Indeed the still ongoing Australian Aboriginal Genocide and Aboriginal Ethnocide commenced with the British Invasion in 1788. Indigenous Australians had been living in Australia for about 60,000 years, there were 350-750 different tribes and a similar number of languages and dialects, of which only 150 survive today and of these all but about 20 are endangered [8, 9].

No doubt the Islamic State (IS) Sunni rebels are committing barbarous acts ( terrorizing and expulsion of minorities, mass killing of prisoners, the horrible beheading of the American journalist). However the US and Australian re-invasion of Iraq will simply end up killing vastly more people and sow the seeds for further decades of Sunni-Shia-Kurd conflict in Iraq and Syria.

Indeed one can ask why is it always the blood-soaked Americans and their blood-soaked UK, French and Australian lackeys who are policing the Muslim world? The US Alliance citizens all live in countries well-removed from Muslim countries, and overwhelmingly aren’t Muslims, Arabs, or Arab speakers. The simple answer is “oil”, “geo-politics” and in the case of the present re-invasion of Iraq, the non-Russian supply of gas to Europe from the Middle East.

Marty Natalegawa, the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, the largest Muslim country and the largest Muslim democracy in the world, has injected some sanity into the international discussion by advocating “smart power” rather than the bloody and endless “hard power” espoused by the US Alliance: “Well, our chief concern essentially is the ISIS itself, this situation that we are now having where both in Iraq and in Syria we have a group of men, a group of people who are committing the kind of heinous atrocities that they have been committing. And Indonesia has been very clear in condemning and in disassociating itself from this phenomenon and we wish very much to join the rest of the international community in ensuring that we overcome this challenge. Now, whether the challenge can best be overcome through the use of hard power alone, or whether it requires a bit more comprehensive approach as well is something that we may wish to discuss.… Violence or situations in far-flung region of the world have an immediate impact on us, not only in Iraq, but of course in Palestine, in Gaza, in Syria, in Libya, even here in our neighbourhood when we have been having, in recent years, the difficult situation in Myanmar with respect to the Rohingyas. That issue also have an impact in Indonesia in terms of the - creating breeding ground for extremism and intolerance. So, we must all be part of the efforts to overcome them, this kind of challenge, but it must be application of smart power, not necessarily only of hard power. Smart power in terms of soft power, diplomacy and the like” [10].

The US, UK, France and Australia have sought to justify re-invasion because of an asserted threat of IS-trained terrorists, including the hypothetical of so-called “foreign fighters” in Iraq and Syria returning to their European home countries and committing “acts of terrorism”. The UK has announced a “terror emergency” due to “foreign fighters” but like pro-Zionist Australia makes no mention of thousands of dual citizen Israelis involved as “foreign fighters” with the war crimes of Israeli state terrorism and hundreds of thousands of “home-grown” Zionist extremist militants involved in perversion and subversion of the Western democracies [11]. Indeed Australia has proposed extensions of its already draconian anti-terrorism laws that largely target Muslims but ignore the actuality of Israeli state terrorism involving Israeli-Australian dual citizens against Australian citizens and their relatives [11].

Leading Australian human rights advocate Bill Rowlings (Medal of the Order of Australia and CEO of Civil Liberties Australia) has commented in The Guardian Australia: “We need to ask how, beyond jihadists, the new national security and data retention laws will be used. Is it possible, for instance, that ASIO and its “affiliates” will use their new powers to legally tap the mobile phones and laptops of presidents and prime ministers attending the G20 in Brisbane in November?... Tens of thousands of residents could be corralled inside their homes or barricaded out of their properties during the event… The proposed laws will allow ASIO to declare “special intelligence operations”, making it an offence punishable by 5-10 years jail to disclose anything Australia’s spooks are doing” [12].

Western Mainstream media and The Guardian Australia censor the magnitude of the Iraqi Holocaust and the Iraqi Genocide and indeed eschew the very use of these terms. By way of example, I attempted to post the following comment on Bill Rowling’s article on Australia’s proposed new “anti-terror laws” in response to the Iraqi civil war but it was censored by The Guardian Australia (an offshoot of the Guardian UK) , presumably as containing things it does not want its readers to read, know about or think about:

Censored comment #1: "Excellent article by Bill Rowlings. Some further key points must be made in the interests of Australian liberty.
1. Australia shares its intelligence with the “5 eyes” (the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand) but no mention is made of the 6th eye, the Israelis. According to the Sydney Morning Herald’s Phillip Dorling: “The United States National Security Agency routinely shares intelligence data with Israel without first sifting through it to remove information about US citizens or the citizens of close allies including Australia, according to a top-secret agreement disclosed by US intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden” (Google “US shares raw intelligence on Australians with Israel”).

2. Australian Intelligence is set to receive hundreds of millions of dollars more and more draconian laws violating our human rights from the Coalition – it is on the crest of a foreign-manufactured wave of Islamophobia, anti-Arab anti-Semitism and “terror hysteria” and all on account of the Sunni rebels in Iraq and Syria who are evidently prepared to try to match US Alliance barbarity with barbarity of their own. It is likely that hundreds of ISIS rebels have been blown to bits in disproportionate US “turkey shoot” responses to the awful beheading and there is a clear prospect of tens of thousands more rebels to be thus killed due to an “endless” and disproportionate US Alliance involvement in this civil war that threatens a lucrative non-Russian gas supply for Europe.

3. There is no mention by Australian Intelligence, politicians and media of Australian “foreign fighters” involved in the horrendous war crimes of Israeli state terrorism in Gaza, the Occupied Territories and the wider Middle East, not least in the latest Gaza Massacre involving 2,100 killed, 10,000 wounded, 450,000 rendered homeless and 1.8 million people traumatized in response to zero (0) Israeli deaths from Gaza rockets in the previous year.

4. In the last 50 years only 4 Australians have been killed by “terrorists” in Australia, 3 of them in the Hilton Bombing (that many believe was actually due to an operation-gone-wrong of Australian Intelligence) and the other a medical clinic security guard killed by a Right to Life fanatic (none of the “terrorists” were Muslims).

5. In contrast, Australian Intelligence does not deserve more money and powers when it demonstrably fails to protect Australian citizens and their relatives from the ACTUALITY of Israeli and dual citizen Australian-Israeli tasering, shooting, bombing, killing, mangling, torturing, kidnapping, robbing, and imprisoning Australians and their relatives, in addition to large-scale Israeli violation of Australian sovereignty through huge passport fraud, spying and subversion of MPs, media and institutions (for a detailed and documented dossier sent to Australian MPs, media and the AFP Google “Racist Zionism and Israeli State Terrorism threats to Australia and Humanity”; also Google “ways Australian Intelligence spies”. End censored comment #1.

On 29 August 2014 The Guardian published an article by Daniel Hurst about the new Iraq War and entitled “Tony Abbott: any Iraq involvement will continue to be humanitarian” [13] and summarizing the pro-war views of the Coalition Australian PM Tony Abbott and of the pro-war, pro-Zionist, US lackey Labor Right leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten that were countered by the cautious, humane views of the Labor Opposition Deputy leader Tanya Plibersek. I attempted to post the following comment but it too was censored by The Guardian, presumably for containing things The Guardian does not want its readers to read, know about or think about:

Censored comment #2: "Bill Shorten’s craven, pro-war comments are as expected from the pro-war, US lackey Labor Right. However Labor’s decent, informed and humane Tanya Plibersek is quite correct in alluding to the huge damage done to the US, Australia and Iraq by the Iraq War.

The long-term accrual cost of the US War on Terror has been $6 trillion for the US and $125 billion for Australia, these fiscal perversions being linked to US and Australian post-2001 preventable deaths of 16 million and 0.8 million, respectively, this being a shocking testament to the lunacy of spending huge sums to kill 10 million Muslims abroad through violence or war-imposed deprivation rather than keeping medically-compromised Americans and Australians alive at home (Google "One million Americans die" and "Muslim Holocaust Muslim Genocide").

The UK, US and Australia have vastly exceeded the horrifying barbarism of IS and are now set to do more through re-invasion. Thus US Alliance-imposed Sanctions and War in Iraq in 1990-2011 have been associated with 4.6 million Iraqi war-related deaths, 1.7 million violent deaths, 2.9 million deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 5-6 million refugees and 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention) (Google "Iraqi Holocaust Iraqi Genocide" and "UK, US, Australia & Iraqi Genocide 1914-2014" ).
Decent, informed and humane Australians will reject the Coalition and Labor Right warmongers, vote 1 Green and put the Coalition last." End censored comment #2.

I attempted to post the further comment below but this too was censored by The Guardian Australia:

Censored comment #3: “My carefully researched post providing appalling statistics backing up Tanya Plibersek’s assertion that the 2003 war was “damaging” for the US, Australia and Iraq was CENSORED by The Guardian, presumably for containing things The Guardian does not want its readers to read, know about or think about. However it can be read if you Google “Censorship by The Guardian Australia”.

One is reminded of John Pilger (outstanding expatriate Australian UK writer and journalist) reviewing “The First Casualty” by Phillip Knightley (2003): “When I read the first edition of this remarkable book twenty-five years ago, I was struck by the following quotations. During the First World War, Prime Minister David Lloyd George told C P Scott, editor of the Manchester Guardian: "If the people really knew [the truth] the war would be stopped tomorrow. But of course they don’t know and can’t know".

History ignored yields history repeated (Google “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History”, a book that is now available for free perusal on the web). Genocide censorship, holocaust censorship, genocide ignoring and holocaust ignoring are far, far worse than utterly repugnant genocide denial and holocaust denial because at least the latter admit the possibility of public discussion in the interests of public decency and public safety (history ignored yields history repeated) .

En passant, the assertion in the headline “Tony Abbott: any Iraq involvement will continue to be humanitarian” is utterly incorrect because, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia , in addition to air force operations and soldiers on the ground in the Green Zone , is involved in US drone strikes: “Fairfax Media understands that the Pine Gap [telecommunications and spying] facility in central Australia is being used to direct drone strikes against militants in Iraq.”” End censored comment #3.

Indeed The Guardian Australia is so intent on censorship that it has given me the dubious honour of being “pre-moderated” to prevent me from instant posting (albeit subject to later declared censorship) and to prevent the possibility of the Awful Truth being encountered by a Guardian reader for even a few seconds or a few minutes while buried in a comment thread.

The Guardian Australia, like its UK parent the Guardian UK, has an ostensibly “liberal’ position and, for example, offers a science-informed position of the reality and seriousness of man-made climate change in marked contrast to the climate change denialist or effective climate change denialist Murdoch media [14] . However both the Australian and UK Guardians are Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist (NAZI)-perverted and subverted and, after the fashion of The Guardian’s editor back in WW1, bow to pressure on matters relating to UK state terrorism, US state terrorism and Israeli state terrorism. Indeed for details of horrendous censorship by The Guardian Australia and The Guardian UK see “Censorship by The Guardian Australia” [15] and “Censorship by The Guardian UK ” [16].

Outstanding US writer Barbara Kingsolver has analysed this cowardly, unethical and irresponsible Mainstream censorship in her great novel "The Lacuna" (lacuna meaning a hiatus, blank, missing part, gap, cavity, or empty space) in which she has Russian Communist revolutionary and theorist Leon Trotsky (Lev) and his assistant Van having the following discussion about media: ""But newspapers have a duty to truth", Van said. Lev [Trotsky] clicked his tongue. "They tell the truth only as the exception. Zola [French novelist of "J’accuse" fame] wrote that the mendacity of the press could be divided into two groups: the yellow press lies every day without hesitating. But others, like the Times, speak the truth on all inconsequential occasions, so they can deceive the public with the requisite authority when it becomes necessary." Van got up from his chair to gather the cast-off newspapers. Lev took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. " I don’t mean to offend the journalists; they aren’t any different from other people. They’re merely the megaphones of other people" … [Trotsky observes to his assistant Shepherd] “Soli, let me tell you. The most important thing about a person is always the thing you don’t know”” [17].

Great American writer Gore Vidal put it more succinctly as quoted in the movie "Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia": "A writer must always tell the truth, unless he is a journalist" [18]. Indeed for numerous quotations by brilliant truth-tellers about the lying and mendacity of Mainstream “presstitutes” see “Mainstream Media Lying” [19].

Of course The Guardian Australia and The Guardian UK are not alone among the Western Mainstream media (MSM) in censorship, lying by commission and lying by omission. For details of Mainstream media-derived censorship by the global Murdoch media empire, the Australian Fairfax media, the Australian ABC, the UK BBC, and the Australian universities-backed web magazine The Conversation in Neocon American- and Zionist Imperialist-perverted and subverted Murdochracy, Lobbyocracy and Corporatocracy Australia and elsewhere in the West see “Boycott Murdoch Media” [14] , “Censorship by the BBC” [20], “Censorship by The Conversation” [21], “Mainstream media censorship”[22], “Mainstream Media Lying” [19], “Censorship by The Age” [23], “Censorship by ABC Late Night Live” [24], "Censorship by ABC Saturday Extra" [25], and “ABC fact-checking unit & incorrect reportage by the ABC (Australia’s BBC)” [26].

Conclusions.

Rational risk management - that is crucial for societal safety (and the more so in an Age of Mendacity and Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist (NAZI)-inspired “terror hysteria”) – successively involves (a) accurate data, (b) scientific analysis (this involving the critical testing of potentially falsifiable hypotheses) and (c) informed systemic change to minimize risk. However lying Mainstream media, politician and academic presstitutes have substituted a perverted protocol involving (a) ignoring, lying by omission, lying by commission, censorship and intimidation, (b) anti-science spin (this involving the selective use of asserted facts to support a partisan position) and (c) blame and shame that has war as its most dangerous outcome and which subverts accurate reportage.

History ignored yields history repeated as analyzed in my huge book “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History. Colonial rapacity, holocaust denial and the crisis in biological sustainability” that is now available for free perusal on the web [27]. A converse example is provided by the recently published “The Cambridge History of Australia” that manages to ignore racist White Australian involvement in 30 genocides since 1788 [28].

After 100 years of devastating Western occupation and hegemony and the last 25 years of what must be described as an Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide (4.6 million killed by violence or by war-imposed deprivation), Iraq more than most deserves peace. The civilized world condemns the barbarity of IS but must also condemn the barbarity of the US Alliance re-invasion of Iraq and the prospect of endless war in both Syria and Iraq until all Iraqis and Syrians bow to America’s will or have been exterminated, corralled (like the Occupied Palestinians) or exiled.

Decent people must speak out to oppose the resumption of the genocidal War on Iraqis by the US, Australia and their allies, and the most effective action would be via Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against war mongers and Western state terrorism as were successfully applied against Apartheid Israel-backed Apartheid South Africa and are currently being applied against genocidally racist, neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel. Decent, anti-war and anti-racist Australians in particular must speak out, reject the pro-war Coalition Government and Labor Right -dominated Opposition, vote 1 Green and put the Coalition last.

Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. The 100 years of Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide (4.6 million Iraqi dead from violence or imposed deprivation in the last quarter century alone) was made possible by the mendacity of Mainstream media, politician an academic presstitutes as well as by remorseless One Percenter greed for Middle East hegemony, oil and gas.
