What bullshit this is. Remember how the "missionaries" helped genicide the indigenous, then the white wives dressed up indigenous women and children in hideous western garb, slapped the shit out of them so they would not speak their own language and put them in bording schools which taught them to be "good xtians"...this will be the "modern" version of the christian/capitalist/demodictatorship of Iraq by the capitalist wives. Maybe Ann Coulter will go over there and get beheaded!

GET THE FUCK OUT OF IRAQ!

State Department Funds Anti-Women’s Rights Group To Train Iraqi Women

Secretary of State Colin Powell announced that the Independent Women’s
Forum (IWF), was one of the recipients awarded part of a $10 million grant
to train Iraqi women in the skills of democratic public life. IWF’s
website states that their mission is to counter “the dangerous influence
of radical feminism in the courts” and to combat “corrosive feminist
ideology on campus.” It was “established to combat the women-as-victims,
pro-big-government ideology of radical feminism.”

“Talk about an inside deal, the IWF represents a small group of right-wing
wheeler-dealers inside the Beltway,” said Eleanor Smeal, president of the
Feminist Majority.

IWF has a history of opposition to women’s rights, including the Violence
Against Women Act (VAWA), stating that VAWA was not helpful to the victims
and gives too much authority to the government, reports the Washington Post.
In addition, IWF led a campaign against Title IX that calls for gender
equity in education and the Women’s Educational Equity Act that gives
schools the materials to combat sex discrimination.

IWF was founded by well-known and well-connected right-wing Republican
conservatives. Former board members include Lynne Cheney, PhD (literature),
former chairman (sic) of the National Endowment for the Humanities
(1986-1993), senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and wife of
Vice President Dick Cheney; Wendy Lee Gramm, wife of former Senator Phil
Gramm (R-TX) and former board member of Enron, who joined the Enron’s
board shortly after leaving her position as head of the Commodity Futures
Trading Commission, which gave Enron and other oil and gas companies an
exemption from federal regulations, which proved to be a “big financial
boon” to Enron, according to PBS; and Kate O’Beirne, Washington Editor
of the National Review and former vice president of government relations at
the Heritage Foundation.

  • Don’t those women know already that they belong in the kitchen and barefoot and pregnant like in this country. How dare they get upity. I am sure the Christians will teach them a thing or two. They should know like the Baptists know that a woman’s main job is to be subservant to her husband and obey his every command (he is the lord and master of the home, she is just there to wipe up after him and the slew of little Christians it is her duty to pump out). Don’t they know that the Pope (his royal gayness) said the problems of the world are the fault of women who have dared to go out in the work force instead of staying home in the kitchen where they belong letting her husband be the boss (which one of these husbands wants to give up her paycheck from her full time job outside of the home?) although I am sure he is quite happy to let her do all the house hold chores and do the kid tending (while he watches sports on the tubie and drinks his six-pack) as evidenced by recent polls that 80% of wives say they are still doing all of the home maintenance. Then there is the Mormons who believe that women are nothing more than baby machines to increase the roster, the church did however say that women do deserve some respect. Especially if (the church who teaches women are not worthy to hold the priesthood) she is doing what the elders and the bishop and her husband are telling her to do which amounts to unpaid work for the church and the family.

So you see that these Iraqi women are in for more brainwashing from the Christians (at the taxpayers expense- faith based initives do work if you know how to smooze with the Republicans you can bank on it) they haven’t had a bad enough time already with their past government telling them they are second class citizens, they need to hear it from the Christians too. And the taxpayers need to fund this bullshit the 7 trillion debt isn’t big enough yet and the gangster administration has to grab all they can before they are booted out of office.

  • To suggest that Iraqi women should embrace radical feminism is culturally naive. In fact, what you percieve as a ridical right wing Christian feminine identity is far more liberated than what Moslem women have been experiencing around the world. This being the case they both share the same moral and scriptural foundation and as such the Christian effort to help women embrace democracy would be far easier to assimilate than a radical feminist postition. The Engel Scale, which measures the world-view gap between cultures suggests that such a position would be far healthier than what you would advocate. Besides, I do not think that radical feminism has contributed all that much to our culture either. While it has helped open up the workplace and greater financial equity it has contributed to the dissolution of the american marriage - and the ones who pay that price are children of broken homes. IN seeking, for the sake of female rights, to displace and marginalize masulinity and the interchangablility of a father in the family it has also resulted in preditory and unrestrained masculinity - the result of men who are marrying later or divorcing. Healthy Marriage moderates masculinity and foucuses its energy into the health of the family.

As far as the missionary activities you mention, you might want to do further study. A great many peoples around the world have been educated and recieved medical care from christians who have left the comfort of the west to live in disease infested and filthy conditions. Catholic missionsaries have lived with Lepers, and the marginalized. You exagerate the downside of some of the worst expressions of missionary zeal and fail to see and understand the historically positive role missionary activity has played over the last 2000 years. It is a pity that many radical feminists have not been able to think and study beyond what they have been fed by knowlege elites who have sold themselves to postmodern absurdities. There is so much more to the story, and so much more to God’s love for humanity (and you) than you have been exposed to.

    • Who said anything about radical feminism? A form of totalitarianism itself and a handy tool of empire. The left wing is as complicite in imperialistic terror and torture as you and your little apologia for the missionaries. You make assumptions in your imperialist zeal to defend your missionaries and defend your reactionary bullshit. Get the fuck out, right wing or radical, missionary or secular modernism. Get the fuck out! Ever hear of self determination? The women of Iraq do not need you, or the right or the rads or any tools, assets, agents of torture and terror democracy. Get the fuck out.

  • Hello - I am appalled that women already so connected to wealth and power, are pulling in more wealth and power. I am not sure exactly what they are "teaching" the women in Iraq - maybe they are not exactly sure either. But I do know that Jesus, on whose recorded words and actions Christianity is based, did advise us not to pursue wealth as a goal in life. In fact, he said it would be easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy person, by which I interpret to mean a person who dedicated their life to the pursuit of wealth at the expense of the well being of others, could enter the Kingdom - attain Nirvana - achieve enlightenment - however you choose to define a fulfilled and complete existance dedicated to loving and serving God/Higher Power/Creator, through loving and serving other beings. I also find it ironic that people who oppose abortion, even in cases of rape, call themselves "pro life", when they actively support war, war mongering, hate filled rhetoric, revenge, violence, and the use of mutagens such as depleted uranium in artillery and weapons aimed at other human beings, who are definitely alive. How are these women Christians, exactly ?
