This is a call for action to help save a young Australian woman’s life who
is currently facing the death penalty in Bali for allegedly being caught
with marijuana in a Balinese airport:

A 27 year old Australian woman named Schapelle Leigh Corby, is facing the
death penalty in Bali for being caught with 4 kilos of marijuana in her
luggage at an airport in Bali. Ms Corby claims the marijuana was not hers
and many of her supporters believe the marijuana may have been planted in
her bag because marijuana tends to be smuggled out of Bali, rather than into
Bali & because the prices for cannabis in Bali are much lower than the
prices for cannabis in Australia. Balinese authorities are asking for the
death sentence for Ms Corby, who’s trial could begin in just a couple of
months. Balinese authorities wish to sentence Ms Corby to death by a firing
squad.

*Please Take a moment to help save this poor woman’s life. Here is what you
can do:

Write to the Australian Prime Minister and email the Australian Foreign
Minister of Affairs and ask them to take action to place pressure on the
Balinese Government to release Schapelle Leigh Corby and to encourage
Australians & the rest of the world to publicly boycott traveling to Bali
until they set this woman free.

I urge you to also contact the Indonesian Consulate in Australia and let
them know you plan to boycott traveling to Bali unless they set Schapelle
Leigh Corby free. (I have not had luck finding a direct contact to the
Indonesian Consulate within Indonesia. If anyone out there happens to know,
please email it to me at: rboje@hotmail.com and I will circulate this as
well.)

  • I really feel sorry for Schapelle, and I believe that she is telling the truth.

There is no such thing as an Indonesian Consulate in Indonesia, in the same way that there is no Australian Consulate within Australia...... So you’ll never find that address! However, there is, no doubt, their "Foreign Relations Secretariat" and also a department of tourism in Indonesia that should be contacted, because of the unprofessional way that the Indonesian Customs authorities behaved - like handling the bags and thus destroying the evidence of possible finger prints. So now, no one really knows who planted the drugs, because they tampered with the evidence. Why don’t the Indonesian police arrest or remove those ignorant Customs "authorities."

I really doubt that Schapelle will get the death penalty, and really, I think that she should be freed because of lack of evidence. Also in the circumstances of how she quickly pointed out that the bag containing the drugs was hers, and gladly opening it up for inspection, also shows that she had no idea that there was anything abnormal with her luggage.

With a bag that anyone could have opened and planted the drugs, Schapelle is considered the prime suspect because the bag belongs to her, but because anyone could have opened it and planted the drugs, then it is very difficult to prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, that she is responsible, and therefore for reasons of attracting tourists to the islands, they ought to throw the case out and let her go free.

    • Who cares if they kill her, what, someone planted 4 + kg’s in her luggage. Go and scrape up the same weight in dry grass from your own bank yard, thats about 9 pound of butter.(she didn’t notice it) She deserves all she gets, what i don’t understand about these drug addicts is why don’t they go and indulge in this atificial stimulation where its accepted or legal. And to those who say she’s innocent (have you ever watched "The worlds dummest criminals)

    • This forum is starting to smoke. The different posts have become difficult to follow as to the writer. I have started to use the name Indian. What about the rest of us? Can we use an identity so we are able to follow the threads?
      Thanks
      Indian

    • you are one sick person to say who cares it they kill her!! There is a big chance she is innocent and just a victim.. You are sick!!!! If you read the facts before shooting your mouth you would know that she isn’t a drug addict as her drug test ALL came back NEGATIVE. It is people like you who make this world a worse place.. Remember she is in one of the most corrupt countries inthe world and they do things like this often, she isn’t the first.............

    • i am one of schapelles close friends. she is not a drug addict, as her test have proven, and not a drug smuggler. you and others like you are supporting the corruption and injustist that goes on in bali with your comments. you my friend are a complete fool. you should be the one facing the death penlty for wasting space on this earth.

    • I read someplace that its supposed to be her sisters drugs, anybody hear anything like that?

    • SHE DESERVES EVERYTHING SHE GETS DOES SHE? I AM SCHAPELLES EX BOYFRIEND OF 2 YEARS AND SUFFERED MANY A NAGGING ABOUT HOW MUCH SHE HATED MARIJUANA, THE SMELL, PEOPLE THAT GOT STONED, DRUGS THE LOT. I DON’T MIND A BEER AT THE LOCAL TAVERN AND EVEN THAT I WOULD BE IN TROUBLE FOR. DUMB IS SHE, A BBEAUTICIAN WHO SPEAKS FLUENT JAPANESE, WORKS HER ASS OFF, DEALS WITH CUSTOMER RELATIONS, CARES ABOUT HER APPERANCE MORE THAN ANY ONE ON THE PLANET, LOVES CHILDREN IS A GREAT AUNTY TO HER NIECE AND NEPHEW, HAS A LOVE OF THE OCEAN AND OUTDOORS, A GREAT BOOGY BOARDER AND HAS A FAMILY THAT LOVE HER. ITS MARIJUANA, I NEVER SAW A BIG DEAL IN IT BUT SHE HATED THE SHIT WITH A PASSION, SO DUMB AND GUILTY SHE IS NOT. PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD NOT COMMENT ON SOMETHING OR SOMEBODY YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. SHE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE STOOD IN FRONT OF 12 AWAITING RIFLEMEN AND SHOT TO DEATH ON THE SPOT FOR THIS. AND YOU KNOW EVEN IF SHE WAS SET UP AND THEY DO KILL HER SHE STILL DOES NOT DESERVE IT. IF SHE IS A DUMB DRUG DEALER WAS HER BLOOD TESTED NEGATIVE, SHE SHOULD HAVE SMOKED BEFORE SHE BOARDED IF SHE IS THAT DUMB. IF SHE WAS BROKE BEFORE SHE LEFT FOR BALI HOW DID SHE AFFORD THE DOPE TO TAKE?? LAST OF ALL IF YOU KNEW SOMEBODY WELLL IN THIS POSITION WOULD YOU BE SITTING BACK WITH THE SAME COMMENTS?? CHECK YOUR OWN INTELLIGENCE. IF SHE IS DRUG ADDICT WHY ISN’T SHE SUFFERING FROM WITHDRAWL SYMPTOMS?? AND WHEN YOU ARE ON HOLIDAYS AND ADRENELINE IS PUMPING THROUGH YOUR SYSTEM YOU WOULD NOT NOTICE A SMALL INCREMENT IN WEIGHT SUCH AS 4 KILOS WHEN ALL YOUR LUGGAGE YOU ARE CARRYING WEIGHS PROBABLY 15-20 KG’S. SHE DID HAVE 2 OTHER BAGS BESIDES HER BOOGIE BOARD TO CARRY!!!THINK ABOUT IT. BUT IF PEOPLE THINK SHE DESERVES TO DIE WITHOUT A FAIR TRIAL AND THE CORRUPTION THAT IS OBVIOUSLY GOING ON, THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE PERSON WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING HER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. IF YOU KNEW HER YOU WOULD KNOW HOW MUCH SHE HATED MARIJUANA, ME AND ALL HER FRIENDS KNOW.

    • i feel really sorry for this girl i hope she does come out of it ok but will you all stop saying how corrupt and bad Bali is it is one of the most beautiful and fun places in the world, they just have their rules like every other country, when you first get off the plane in Bali there are numerous signs that say DRUGS=DEATH thats the rules they may not be her drugs but they found them in her bag and there is no proof that they have come from somewhere else other than her.

  • Why should Indonesia set her free? Because she is white? I have been travelling around and the general idea among whites are ’I will never get caught’ or ’Our governments would get us free’. I do know of the innocent whites in Thailand who just got busted because they agreed to carry bags out of the Golden Triangle for strangers and some of these strangers happen to be undercover cops.
In Corbys case, the police did say that they had decided to press charges after her siblings and travel companions were questioned.
I am sure that she would be set free if they find her not guilty. At the same time i wound wonder if any of you are campaigning for the release of foreign prisoners in Australian prisons. Surely there must be loads of prisoners as innocent as Corby?

    • That’s so true. Besides, she claims that the marijuana was not hers, but how could she not have have noticed 8 pounds of marijuana? If she were carrying it for a friend or boyfriend, she’s stupid. She should rat on the people who asked her to carry it for her to get leniency, if that’s possible.

    • The police, of whatever nationality, are not and should never be the judicial system! The question of whether Corby is guilty is for the courts to decide, and hopefully she will get a fair trial. Also it’s definitely not a racial thing. The governments of the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany and Australia etc., will protect all of their citizens regardless of their color.

Let’s hope that she does indeed get a fair trial - after those customs officials handled the bag with their bare hands - thus destroying the possible evidence of fingerprints. In this day and age of terrorism where those same officials handle everyone’s personal luggage with gloves because they want to preserve "evidence", there is no excuse for what those customs people did.

    • Chambers, Barlows and Michael McAuliffe, Australians hanged in Malaysia.

The innocent Chambers and Barlow pointed the finger at each other as to the owner of the drugs but only in court but denied any knowledge at first.

McAuliffe too was innocent and his defence was that he did not know it was heroin he was carrying. He thought that he had bought some sex drugs from a Thai prostitute, so he hid 177 grams of ’sex drugs’ on his body because of the embarasment he would feel if the customs found it.

Besides no one would be so stupid to carry heroin into Malaysia knowing the consequences.

Two other Australians of Vietnamese origin knew the consequences and at present sitting on death row. One in Singapore and one in Vietnam.

Asia has its own drug problems and Australians and othe foreigners must be willing to face the consequences if they get caught. Dont expect Australian laws to apply in a foreign country.

In Leigh Corbys case, one newspaper did say very early in the case that the Indonesian police had been tipped off by an informant about the marijuana she was carrying. The Indonesian Police says that she was part of a drug syndicate.
I find it very strange that only innocent whites get busted and not Asians.

    • Whatever I have written in the Corby case I do believe that there is a possibility that she has been set up. The answer to this should come during the trail.
Her lawyers say that her bag weighed less at Sydney Airport suggesting that the drugs were planted at Bali airport making he an innocent victim.
The Indonesian police claims that her bag had the same weight at sydney and Bali, making her a smuggler. If it true that her luggage weighed less at Sydney then she should have been released and sent back with an apology.
Why two totally different stories here? Who is right, her lawyers or the Indonesian Police?
Contradicting information like this is confusing as to her guilt.
Did the drugs come from all the way from Australia or was it put into her bag by smugglers working at Bali Airport? This is a frightening possibility when we all know how corrupt indonesia is. If she was being used as a courier without her knowledge, I dont know what would have been better for her, arrested as she is now or shot down outside the airport when the smugglers wanted the dope which she unknowingly carried through customs.

    • In the comments above on 27th November 2004 17h24 Innocent? The writer in one place informed us about “two other Australians of Vietnamese origin knew the consequences and at present sitting on death row.” Then the writer states that “I find it very strange that only innocent whites get busted and not Asians.” I’m sorry but it seems that you just contradicted yourself! Or could you possibly mean that those Australians of Vietnamese origin are innocent whites and not Asians?

    • My statement about the Vietnamese Australians had nothing to do with the whites. My thoughts when i commented the innocent whites were in Thailand and Bali. Take a trip to Khao San Road in Bangkok and see what I mean. The consequences are clear, death or life. On this streets you can see westerners with total disregard for their life or Thai laws deal with drugs.
That I have contradicted myself according to the writer is an attempt to misunderstand me.
Further I would say that I am not a writer and neither is English my mother tongue.
In the past westerners were normally sentenced and deported from Malaysia and the hangings of Chambers and Barlow sent shock waves throughout the world. How dare they hang westerners, was the reaction. A woman in Australia said, my boy is innocent.
If only she knew what her boy was up to in Malaysia.

    • Hi, my name is Mike MacLennan, and I live in Santo Domingo, Hispaniola. I am originally from Australia but have spent more time outside Australia than inside. Your last comments I think “hit the nail on the head” – very well written.

Thank you for the clarification. I agree with you that we westerners most of the time do not have any respect and appreciation for the laws of other countries. That comes from the educational system of countries like Australia, U.S.A. and Britain etc., where most of their citizens can only speak English and have not broadened their horizons by studying other languages and cultures. Regarding that lady in Australia saying that her “boy is innocent” – I had an experience similar to that when I was a child in Queensland where the son of a policeman stole my watch, and there was no way that his parents would agree that their little son was a thief!

In the case of Schapelle, if it is proven “beyond a reasonable doubt” that she is a drug trafficker, then she and we westerners have to accept the consequences, because those are the laws of Indonesia and we foreigners should respect them. After all, we do have the option to either visit Indonesia or not go there. I think that the decision of whether she is guilty or not should not depend on the colour of her skin or on her ethnic background. It should only be based on the proven facts.

    • I must admit that had my daughter been busted, i would have campaigned for her release. This is human nature.
Another thing about the interest in Corbys case is because she is a woman, a pretty one too. The other thing might be that a third world country decides on the fate of a member of the supreme race.
Not long ago the Australian Prime Minister said he supported the death penalty for Osama Bin Laden and the Bali bombers....I can seem to understand this as Australia is very keen on informing of the Australian stand against the death penalty.

    • So far 2 options have been presented: the drugs originating in Indonesia or they came from Australia. The first one is so unlikely because they were already in the country so why try to sneak them past customs. The Australian option is unlikely as well, because generally the path for the drugs is the other way - from Indonesia to Australia and not Australia to Indonesia. So that leaves us with a 3rd option: that the drugs came from another country and who knows where? So on arriving in Bali they decided it would be too risky to take the drugs themselves through the Indonesian Customs, because of the death penalty so they used a contact inside customs to plant the drugs on someone innocent whom the authorities wouldn’t be so suspicious of, with the probability of her not getting caught - so they chose an Australian as their "mule", and hoped that she would get through. Another thing to explore is how precise are the scales that were used to weigh her luggage in Indonesia? Or were her bags even weighed? Generally the bags are weighed on departure and not on arrival.

Regarding someone else’s comments about monkeys, savages, punishing countries etc.: let’s keep it positive. Indonesian has some of the nicest people in the world who deserve our respect and admiration. Yes, I disagree with their laws about the death penalty on having pot in your bags - but Indonesia is not the only country in the world with tough penalties against drug trafficking, and it is their soverign right to make that decision themselves without any interference from any country, especially their neighbours - including Australia. Also, there are no doubt many people in Indonesia who privately think that those laws are just a bit too extreme and who may vote to change them - but they’ll never do that, if you continue to bombard them with your hostility and name calling! I think in general that we Australians need to take a more humble approach in dealing with other countries, especially with Asian countries. I hope that the friendship between Indonesia and Australia will be maintained and cultivated, and let’s disagree without being disagreeable! Mike MacLennan

    • How about a little humility from the Indonesians when they deal with Australians for once? I’m just sick to death of hearing about "western evil" and how horrible and bad and rascist whites are, etc, etc. All the while, countries like Indonesia are becoming hateful, xenophobic killing machines.
The Indonesian media had a field day with this woman, absolutely drooling at the mouth for the chance to punish a white aussie girl. The authorities are bending over backwards to "make an example of her." Because she is Australian, because she is white. This is a big catch for them.
Why should Australia be maintaining and cultivating their friendship with a vicous, increasingly savage country that likes to shoot foreigners, and even our own citizens, on a regular basis? What the hell are we doing working on new trade deals with these people? Somebody has to have the balls to stand up and say it’s wrong. I think all you people that like to rationalize these executions, saying that it’s their right to do whatever they want, should be forced to witness one. Maybe then your cold, withered, "politicially correct" hearts might be opened to the value of human life. Something most people here seem to discard for some deranged ideal of what they consider "tolerance." Or maybe at least spend some time in one of their prisons, shit all over the walls and a bucket of filthy water to wash yourself with, and think about what it’d be like to spend the next 20 years in there.
I hope Schapelle’s case can become a wake up call, forcing people to cease tolerating these countries with their backwards, primitive drug laws.

    • If America decided to execute Mamdouh Habib and David Hicks should we just unquestioningly accept that as well?

    • The point is that I have never heard of America being called a load of stinking white pigs in the case of Mamdouh Habib and David Hicks.

The forums about Corby sends very strong racist signals about Asians and Indonesia. The writers are asking Indonesia to shoot Corby.

Compassion is Asian Virtue and cant be demanded or threathened. Lets give Indonesia the possibility to show it. I must also add that Indonesia has been asked by the West to do more to curb the drug trade to the west and when she complies, she suddenly becomes a racist nation of pigs.
Such double standards are typical of western values. When the youths of the west get addicted to drugs, the East is blamed. When the East arrests a western traficker, they are blamed for doing so.

I have a great respect for Indonesia which despite a bad start in life due to Western colonisation tries to stand on her own feet.

In thsi forum, racial issues were brought up by whites. I might ask who then are the racists?

      Indian

    • I’ve heard america called that and much worse many many many times. Generally because they deserved it. And the West does indeed have blood on their hands for their stupid war on drugs.

    • why would you take marijuana to Bali? It is alot cheaper there then it is in Australia!!! IT dosn’t add up. I think she is innocent.

    • my name is katut and I am from Bali and marry with a australian. I am sad for miss Corby. You people right to this and not understand that our trail system in Indonesia not like in Australia. NOthing is fair if you not have money. Some people go to prison for 2 years and other people for 15 year but have the same charge. NOthing ever fair. Please not think we all are bad people in Indonesia but i sad to say that our high job people are mostly all corrupt. They not care if she innocent they just care it was in her bag but not want or care to find out how it get there. If you not understand how it work in indonesia better you not say bad thing about this miss corby.

    • Katut - it was so nice to hear from a balinese person on this subject.. I was reading through everything and i too agree that Miss Corby is innocent - but at the same time would never consider boycoiting visiting to the beautiful island of bali - and i found it very disturbing to read the way that people were talking about your people. I am a regular visitor to bali and will continue to be - the people i have met there - and i have met alot - are the most nicest people in the world that i have ever met - so much that i hope to live there one day - but i also have had dealings with the police there -and the customs officals in the airport - and i know how corrupt they are and how they have a different set of rules for everyone and a different price scedule for fines for different people.. Lets do all we can to help this poor girl but lets not punish the tourism industry of bali - cause without the aussie tourists they would all starve. they have suffered enough due to the bali bombings. thanks again katut.

    • There is no justice, in or out of court.

    • I read that she had not touched her bag since processing in Australia. It had been transfered and handled for her. So that’s how she would not have noticed. She went to pick her bag up and one of the people working in the airport had followed the bag to see who picked it up because they had noticed something suspicious on the x-ray.

I pray for her ... can only imagine how she must feel. Have any of you seen "Broke Down Palace?"

    • Katur

THank you for your comments on the Indonesian legal system of which you have first hand knowledge.

Concepts of proof, a fair trial and beyond reasonable doubt are laughable when discussing the Indonesian legal system.. The legal, political and ecomonic systems there are hopelessly corrupt. This is not a criticism of any individual Indonesian citizen. Many intelligent, decent people live there and it is not their fault they have to live under such a corrupt regime.

Lets not kid ourselves about Miss Corby’s situation and trust that the truth will come out in a fair trial.

The sad fact is, as you say Kabut, that if she was wealthy she could buy her way out of this situation or at least improve it considerably.

WHether she did this or not, the most horrifying fact is that she is unlikely to get a fair trial.

In her case all we can do is pray that their pathetic legal system will not deliver the death penalty in this situation

If anyone is interested in human rights including the right to a fair trial, you should contact and get involved with a human rights group such as Amnesty International...

I believe she may well be innocent but there certainly seems to be some stong doubts as to her guilt. In any case the death penalty is ludicrous.

In the end I dont think whe will get the death penalty but who knows what result will be reached, it is a complete lottery.

Next time you are complaining about our Government whoever is in power at the time, spare a thought for the millions of people throughout the world who do not enjoy our freedoms and quality. of life

We are blessed and have our ancestors to thank for this.. Long live freedom and democracy. Western society is far from perfect but at least we have the freedom to crticise it, talk about it and hopefully improve it over time.

My heart goes out to you Corby and all your friends and family..

      X

  • If your culture believes in killing people for a bit of pot, then your culture is primitive, no better than monkeys, certainly not on the level of civilized human beings. If you condone murdering people for pot you don’t deserve anyones respect. This isn’t about racism, this is about having respect for human life. Indonesians obviously have no respect for human life, and no civilized human being should have any respect for them or their culture. Simple as that. Saying "we respect your right to kill people for inane reasons because... that’s your culture bla bla bla" is just political correctness gone WAY TO FAR!

    • Well, you obviously have no respect for indonesians and their law. If you know those are the laws and you still decide to go there and break it, then you get whatever you deserve. It’s not for your to decide how another country’s laws should be. The indonesians are obviously tired of these morons coming in to the country to enjoy cheap and abundant pot on the black market. Do you think these visitors are moral? You shouldn’t travel to places where you don’t respect the culture, spare those people. And you’re right, it’s not about racism, it’s respecting other people’s laws.

    • I think the visitors are INFINITELY more moral then blood thirsty savages such as yourself. If your laws involve murdering non-violent criminals then your laws do not deserve to be respected. Countries like Indonesia need to be shunned by the international community until they get their act together. Misuse of the death penalty can never be tolerated. Anyone who does has blood on their hands. But I think you are right about one thing: it’s time Australians (and "westerners" in general) stopped travelling to Bali.

Let’s not forget what we’re talking about here: killing a beautiful young woman because she had some pot in her bag. If sentenced to death they will lead her away to a secret location somewhere, tie her to a stake and then a twelve man firing squad will shoot at her until she is blown to pieces. You support that as punishment for not respecting someone elses "values"? You make me physically sick. I wouldn’t be suprised if you support the Bali bombers as well. Seems like much the same sort of mentality.

      From http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/death/methods.htm:
"The traditional firing squad is made up of three to six shooters per prisoner who stand or kneel opposite the condemned who is usually tied to a chair or to a stake. Normally the shooters aim at the chest, since this is easier to hit than the head, causing rupture of the heart, great vessels, and lungs so that the condemned person dies of hemorrhage and shock. It is not unusual for the officer in charge to have to give the prisoner a pistol shot to the head to finish them off after the initial volley has failed to kill them."

I hope Schapelle’s plight brings light to the attrocities being commited by Indonesia. And let’s not forget the brutal murders this country has already commited, Saelow Prasert and Namsong Sirilak (a 32 year old mother with a 12 year old child "asked that her two sets of clothing, her photographs, diary and necklace be sent to her child, and that her ashes be returned to Thailand"), and Ayodhya Prasad Chaubey already executed this year for non-violent drug crimes. We have a responsibility as human beings to say that this is wrong, to punish countries that act this way.

    • Let her pay for her crime and do other people a favor and stay out of Indonesia!

    • People like you make ME sick. You think you are so superior to other people in third world countries that you can disregard their laws and be above it all. People like you are dregs of society who think they can come into any country and do what they want regardless of the effect your behavior has on the society. You drink like fish at bars and act like a monkey when drunk and then vomit all over the place because you don’t have sense enough stop drinking until you’re sick. Indonesia doesn’t need racist people like you and you would do the country a great favor by never visiting, you ugly pig.

    • I don’t think I’m superior to ALL the people in the world, just the worthless pigs who support the death penalty. It doesn’t sound like the issue for you is about drugs and drug smugglers at all. You just hate westerners and want to kill them. Maybe you should join a terrorist organization? Sure, some people act like assholes when they travel overseas, but at least they aren’t murders like you.

    • Seriously, tell me how you feel about the Bali bomings and the Australians who died there. Go ahead. Let me know your *real* feelings on the matter.

    • Oh, so now anybody who doesn’t agree with your selfish, stupid behavior is a terrorist and anti-western! So you don’t support the death penalty but you definitely support the behavior of westerners who come into a third-world country to buy cheap pot which supports the violent, anti-social behavior that surrounds drug trafficking and causes death to many desperate Indonesians. You are so full of despicable, elitist bullshit that you don’t even realize how much you reek. You are the terrorists for trying to destabilize a population with your disgusting behavior and you are accomplices to murderers that you so blithely ignore with your horrible selfish and self-centeredness. Get some therapy!

    • And why are you bringing the Bali bombings into this?

    • Indonesians also died from the Bali bombings but since you didn’t mention them I guess they don’t count to you.

    • I’m just sickened by the reaction to this poor woman’s plight. I haven’t seen anyone getting behind her, supporting her cause, decrying the death penalty. I’ve seen a lot of posts saying "who cares?" all around the net, and a lot of BS talk about politics and being PC and tolerant. I can’t get my brain around how the general public can be so utterly lacking in compassion that they don’t feel any sympathy for her. I dearly hope one day a customs officer asks to inspect your bag and there’s a great big stinkin’ load of drugs in there. Don’t expect jack shit support from this country. We’ll just sit back and let you hang before we ruffle any feathers.
And since you all seemed to miss this point, my anger at Indonesia goes beyond just Schapelle. It’s due to all the people they plan to kill, and have killed already, with their new barbaric execution regime - people from Thailand and India mostly. Sorry if it makes you mad, but the Indonesian government and any Indonesians that support the death penalty are nothing but worthless pigs, non-humans.
(For what it’s worth, I’ve been just as nasty in the past in my denunciations of a lot of American policies and Australia’s detention camps. But of course, since I’m criticizing white people there - that’s perfectly acceptable, I guess.)

    • Oh and I should add of course people who don’t come from Indonesia who tolerate the death penalty for non-violent crimes are also worthless pigs, non humans, yada yada.

      Have a nice day!

    • That’s a stupid assumption. They all count equally. It’s as stupid as assuming I approve of the behaviour of western people acting like assholes in Bali/Indonesia.
Actually, I don’t think western people should be travelling to those countries or dealing with them in the first place, right now.
Look, it’s simple: I’ll stop hating Indonesia as soon as they stop killing people. I really don’t care if that makes me rascist or intolerant or whatever. Sticks and stones (and bullets...)

    • Nixon described Indonesia as ’’the greatest prize in Asia’’. This led to a CIA sponsored takeover by the US under the pretext that ’’it might go communist’’. Capitalists, along with Suharto carved up and divided all of Indonesias’ wealth and natural resources within a week. Suharto himself benefitted to the tune of $10bn. Hundreds of thousands of deaths followed.
Today you have indigenous Indonesians living in packing crates, on 36 hour rolling shifts making boxer shorts and other clothing for that great retail corp. GAP, amongst others for $1 a day. Is it any wonder that in this climate of exploitation that the West is perceived as evil, and that Islam grows as the ’’good’’ alternative. This has fostered the ’’its either black or white’’ ’’west is evil’’ philosophy, similar to Bushs’ ’’you’re either with us or with the terrorists’’. With no middle ground death and brutality flourishes, and unfortunately, however trivial smoking weed is, a dope smuggler from the West is seen as decadent and worthy of extreme punishment. Ironically it is our Western policies that are responsible.

    • Actually, even a neo-nazi pig such as myself agrees with everything you say. That was a good post, thank you. I won’t deny for a second that the hatred for the west wasn’t created by the west.
But then the Indonesian government also exploits this hatred of the west for their own political gain, making them about as bad as Bush and co in my opinion. And at least you admit that they *DO* hate us. An important point, I think.
This still leaves no excuse for people that make statements like "who cares if they kill her?," "make her pay for her crime" or that we shouldn’t care about this person because she is a white Australian, and we should only be worried about foreigners held in Australia, etc, etc. I believe that countries should always flex whatever muscles they have as much as possible to protect their own citizens.

    • Take that big stinking load of drugs up your ass. Indonesians don’t have time for people like you who want to force other people to comform to your way of life. This is just like the British during the opium war. Drug trafficking is a huge problem in the country and too poor to be able to police it properly. Thousands of Indonesians have lost their lives to the drug trade whether that’s through death, prostitution, or addiction. All visitors who come and take a sincerely friendly interest in Indonesia are always welcome. Those people like you who support drug traffickers can stay the hell out. Jack shit support from your country are for perverts.

    • I think it’s great that the Indonesian government and most Indonesians ignores people like you.

    • You hate and look down on all Indonesians because of this particular drug law? Wow, you really do have a lot of hate.

    • Are you from Indonesia or just being provocative? If you’re Indonesian and you support your government you’re as bad as those murderous Bushites or crazy Blairites. The Indonesian govt is a Western creation. Everyone of the pro Washington dictators whether in Central America or Africa or the Middle East kills its opponents, is brutal with its own populace and has a ’zero tolerance’ to drugs. It then has its own media to foster right wing policies or corrupt Islam for its own ends as in Saudi or Nigeria. Anyway my rambling point is, with a little research you will discover that the biggest drug dealers are the VERY rich, governments, and the CIA. This is not conspiracy. Where does all the crack/coke come from in American cities that results in Black on Black murders ? Why with CIA and US troops swarming all over Afghanistan has opium production increased by 400% with the inevitable flood of heroin expected into poor working class areas of Western cities?
Let that woman with her grass go !!!

    • The level of your stink just gets higher and higher around here.

    • You’re that dumb redneck aren’t you ?

    • The level of stink is increasing round here too, we’re getting higher and higher on grass-chillout you uptight fucker....

    • It seems that it takes one to know one.

    • Are you mistaking the poster for one of your parents?

    • I feel that I should say that I am the one who brought in Chambers and Barrow. Innocents whites. My boy is innocent. Malaysia. Corby might be innocent drug mule.Had it been my daughter.
Looking at the facts of the case now, Corby has been arrested. The drugs were found on her. Lets give the courts a chance to close the case.

I remember that Chambers and Barlow were hanged in record time after the sentence being passed. I think it was under 2 years. This has never been the case before as prisoners stay on death row for as long as 10 years and many are pardoned within that period.

Australians went to the streets calling the country a nation of barbarians. Malaysian students were beaten up in Australia. I heard that a Malaysian Hostel was torched in KKK style.

Why was Chambers and Barlow executed so quick? Did the asaults of Malaysian students in Australia accelerate the process? To teach the white drug smugglers a lesson? To teach the west than Asians are able to keep their courts free of western interference?

Dr Mahatir was a very popular Prime Minister due to his free thoughts and speech. People as far off as Nigeria and Somalia have great respect for this great man. He went against the old colonial powers. He stood up against the whites.

A humble approach is the way to go, after all Corby was not invited as a guest by Indonesia with the drugs. The laws of Indonesia must apply in Indonesia, whoever it concerns.
This pretty white woman might be a dead woman if they find her guilty. She might not be pardoned if these insults against a nation keeps on.

For those of you who care, do research Flor Contemplacion, the filipina who was hanged for murder in Singapore. The stand during the appeal was ’pardon her or die, you filthy pigs.
These threats were even commented by the Singapore foreign minister. How dare they question the integrity of the Singapore Courts, were his remarks. The fate of this woman was sealed.
I followed this case and I think the filipinos themselves helped put the noose around her neck.

Lets not let this happen to Corby. Lets not put a gun to Indonesia’s head and say ’release her or die, you filthy pigs’. Lets not help the execution squad to pull the trigger. Lets do everything possible for her to return home to her parents but not in a coffin.
Most important of all, let the courts decide first if she is guilty.

If found guilty, lets give Indonesia the chance to show compassion and pardon her. Compassion may not be shown by blackmail.

After all I have written I must still point out that I am a strong opponent of the death penalty, even more than the Australian Prime Minister.

      Indian

    • I wouldn’t worry about that happening. The people of Australia have already made it perfectly clear they couldn’t care less about this woman.

    • (I consider it appropriate to include this letter after Indian’s one, because he stimulates thought, and I hope to do the same.)

I would like to humbly run this by, especially my Indonesia friends as something that we all could learn and implement from what has happened to Schapelle. Let us assume that she is innocent, and let us think about how something like this could be prevented from happening in the future – to attract the tourists into Indonesia. My suggestion is to have a zone at the airport between the baggage claims and the Customs inspections where the passengers themselves could inspect their own bags, and any questionable packages or agricultural products or anything that should not have been included in their luggage – the passenger has the chance to dispose of it right then and there – so that when going to the Customs X-ray machines and or personal inspections, the passengers can enter with a smile on their faces and enjoy their stay in your beautiful country. This would protect innocent people whom bad people may try to use as “mules” to carry their drugs into Indonesia, and even give a last chance for drug traffickers to change their minds – because the important thing is that they don’t take any bad things into Indonesia, right? And also we wouldn’t want to wrongly accuse innocent people, and this gives them a chance to say and declare that this package does not belong in their bags etc. The big problem is that Schapelle never was given that chance, and she received what she says as “the shock of her life!”, and what a shock it was!.

It is a very big thing to decide to take someone else’s life – be it for murder or be it for trying to smuggle drugs. What if, an innocent person is wrongly sentenced to death?

Now to the likelihood of Schapelle being a drug trafficker: it’s highly unlikely because she came from Australia where the overwhelming majority of the residents do not have this problem. In fact there has never been a case of an Australian, direct from Australia, trying to smuggle drugs into Indonesia before. I think that it is fortunate for Schapelle that she hadn’t been to some other country where drugs often are exported, because then she would be a million times more suspect. So really, she appears innocent because of these facts, and I would hope that the attitude of everyone, and especially my Australian friends who have attacked this woman – would be: she should be innocent until proven guilty – not the other way around! Mike MacLennan

    • Yes,it is totally different if someone tries to smuggle heroin out of indo. The government fights for them to the last hour.

    • I can not believe that we have so many horrible peolpe living among us that say this girl should face the death penality and not even have the brains to look at the facts in this case. Anyone who has spent time in Indonesia knows that the police, customs and government are corrupt as you can get. Has anyone thought that it may of been a decoy for other heavy drugs to get by customs at the airport while this poor girl was being searched and interigated??? Also anyone who gets off a plane after a few hours and is exicited to be on holiday wouldn’t notice 4kg if you had more then one bag!! Think about it people, why would she do this when drugs are cheaper in Indonesia then Australia and if you had the facts you would know that she isnt a druggo and her drug test all came back negative.. which means she isn’t a user. Another thing to think about is that it couldn’t of came from Australia as she had to go to 2 major airports in Australia and with our security how could they miss something of that size. I really doubt it could of been there. For all of you who are ready to condem her without knowing the facts.. get a heart.. Don’t be thinking that she will get a fair trial in Indonesia as no one is ever innocent there as they don’t want anyone to sue there government!!!!!!! I feel for this girl and her family.. Goodluck

    • In indonesia you are guilty until proven innocent. That is a fact!!

    • Thank you for the correction. I agree with your point, and in fact many countries have exactly the same legal system of being guilty until proven innocent. My remarks were focussed on my fellow Australians who were condemning Schapelle before her trial. Can we agree that we should wait for her trial, and not make any pronouncements of guilt or innocence before her trial? Mike MacLennan

    • Quite interesting that the Indonesian Police said that security guards were there making the planting of the dope in her bag impossible. Because our corrupt security guards were there looking over the luggage?

Someone here did say that the same security guards were bought for a few dollars to slip in a truckload of explosives...... How much would they have asked for to plant 4 kilos of marihuana? A few cents?

Whatever I have written in this matter, I am starting to doubt Corby’s guilt.
This might be a classic setup with the security guards having been bribed to plant the marijuana or look the other way. In Singapore it would have been impossible but badly paid security guards being bought off is more than possible in Indonesia. I wonder if the police there are investigating this possibility at all.

In the early 70s while trying for a visa for Indonesia, I had to bribe the embassy guard with 1 Malaysian dollar. The lady at the reception wanted her cut and finaly when filling out the $1.00 form, the clerk told me that a visa takes 3 months. After paying $3.00 they wanted more. As I turned away I was told that it could be done the same day for some coffee money but i kept walking and never went to Indonesia.

      Indian

    • George Bush must be a bit of a monkey himself eh?He murders people for nothing in their thousands. It has nothing to do with killing coz drugs are bad,it is the corruption in Indonesia that gets people put to death.

    • Fact!! Indonesia is not to poor to police drug trafficking they are just to corrupt and pocket the money. The issue here with Schapelle corby is that she is not a drug trafficker and just a innocent victim. She didn’t take in herion or cocain which kills people and leads to prostitution or death by over dose. She didn’t take in a drug where she will make money, so why would she do it?? She is also not a drug user so it wasnt’ for personal use!!! I feel for Schapelle and her family and it is going to be a hard battle to get a fair or even slight fair trial in this country. They have already condemed her before she was even charged and have paraded around there catch even though she may be innocent and they know it.

Jenny in Indonesia ( i know how this country works and I can tell you that marujuana is alot cheaper here in indonesia then it is in Australia)

    • It seems that alot of Australian’s also seem to think guilty untill proven innocent..Reading this forum has really opened up my eyes to what us fun loving aussies really are (not fun loving at all). Do you really think that Schapelle will recieve a fair trial? No one has been found innocent in an Indonesia court for many years as it could lead to sueing the government. If I am correct last time was over 5 years ago when an American girl had drugs planted on her and they found her innocent, she then sued Indonesian government.. Since then everyone has been guilty or paid when first caught by police to avoid going to court..

    • She cant stay out of indonesia, because she die there now, if they kill her who pays for the body to be buried are parents allowed to bring to Australia, i herd they burn people that they shoot?

  • what’s with all this rascist crap? Stay the hell out of Indonesia, leave us alone pigs! I grew up in Indonesia and i sene the suffering drugs cause the people. screw this nasty wite trash bitch,

She is kind of prety though, maybe I wish i was on her firing squad lol,

    • Somehow I don’t think this poster is the genuine article, Indonesians using the term LOL? He’s thinks he’s big to be complicit in state murder.

    • He only claims to have "grown up" there (which he obviously hasn’t - "grown up" in general that is.) Whoever this is they are clearly quite disturbed and need help.

    • from Jenny in Indonesia, NOw we understand why you have so much hate!! You were a drug addict while in Indonesia!! Now you have killed most of your brain cells and have nothing better to do with your life but wish that others die as you feel that all drug pushers should be punished for what they did to you, but you were the one who bought the drugs weren’t you??
Also if you really did grow up in Indo then you would know that it is the herion and shabbu that kills peolple and causes suffering not the cheap as chips pot... It also seems you are the racist one here as I keep reading you say White trash bitch ect.. You don’t even know her so who are you to judge? Get a life you (anjin) And maybe go see a mentally ill doctor and get your head checked!!!

    • YOU OBVIOUSLY GREW UP IN INDO WITH YOUR FOSTER PARENTS DUE TO YOUR NATURAL PARENTS PAYING SOME POOR BALINESE TWO DOLLARS TO TAKE YOU AWAY. READING YOUR MAIL IT IS OBVIOUS YOU ARE ONLY A CHILD AND MUST BE USING A SCHOOL COMPUTER, GRANTED YOU DO GO TO SCHOOL. I’D LIKE TO BE ON YOUR FIRING SQUAD. AND YES SHE IS PRETTY AND I WOULD SAY RIGHT OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE YOU POOR SICK CHILD, SO DESPERATE FOR A GIRLS ATTENTION YOU’D TRY ANYTHING. YOU OBVIOUSLY AREN’T SHOOTING LOADS OF ANY SORT AND THAT IS THE ONLY WAY YOU HAVE FIGURED TO GET OFF. GO AWAY AND DON’T COME BACK UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING USEFUL TO SHARE.

  • My sons father has lived in indo for the past 10 years,my sons best friend is indonesian. It is common knowledge if you live in indonesia that pot is everywhere, and if you have a little money to spare the police will turn a blind eye.The concept of someone trying to smuggle pot into Indo is ludicrous, the wouldn,t be able to get rid of it and if they tried theyed be rubbibg the Indo drug cartel up the wrong way.You have to be very careful how you are with the authorities in indo or things like this end up happening.

    • Sure that trying to smuggle pot into Indonesia does not make sense but demanding that this is proof enough to say that she has been set up is ridiculous. Indonesia has to investigate every possibility before being convinced that she did not smuggle the dope or did.

Indonesia has her own judicial system and it is not Australia or any other country that decides how the law works there. I do remember an Australian who was set free on bail in Indonesia and has been on the run ever since.
During the colonial days the whites could decide but not any more.

There is an Australian citizen on death row in Singapore. He was arrested in the transit lounge and one of the arguments I have read is that the drugs were not meant to be delivered in Singapore and therefore should be released.

      Indian

    • A Lot of crap on here and also a lot of great points. Calling either race pigs or white trash is just childish .Westerners do not conform or encourage half of the bad stuff you have heard, such as spewing your guts up only to drink more and smoke dope pop pills and shoot up .If you look at our laws you’ll see our Countries stand on drugs, you wont see everyones but nor can any westerner see every eastern opinion .I stand for myself not my country im not in the least bit patriotic, im pro life- That means any life !! Corby’s situation has been heavily advertised over here and thats why its such a big reality for everyone .Over here we believe everyone is not guilty till proven guilty, over there you have the opposite .So basicaly without been too offensive you label everyone as Guilty.... which suggests easterners or at least those who built this judicial system have trust issues and they are the ones calling not only Australians and other westerners but easterners also PIGs and trash .Fair enough the indo govt. prides itself on its tough laws .And you must understand there are laws and then there are values, our govt could have the the death penalty and you bet your pink hankercheif not all of us would agree with it .Same taken i have no doubts that not all people in indo agree with such harsh punishment .A big thing was that Australia agreed to kill the bali bombers.... this was not mine or many others decision and if given the chance we’d definately not condone it let alone encourage it .In regards to corbys case theres heaps of conflciting information, and bali is very well known for its corruption even people who live in bali know this ! It was reported somewhere that bali officials had said no one could of tampered with corby’s bags because the security guards we’re there the whole time .Yet we hear that the bombing of an embassy was okay to get through because security people were bribed .We all know the govt is corrupt over there, not to say it isnt here or in america ....Im not pointing the finger . The issue is corby and capital punishment anywhere .I speak for myself here not my country or anyone else but the DEath penalty is stupid, it shows complete lack of value in life as does any form of murder abortion included .I do find it ironic that America made such a big deal about all the deaths from sep 11th and declared it time to sanctify life, but than newyork in rememberance of sep 11th offered 3 FREE ABORTIONS??!? America alone have been aborting those without a voice since about 1960 or close to it till 2004 date today! and still going... If i had to name the worst tradgedy ever it’d be Abortion .Stupidity in countries is rampid regardless of east or west .Bali take ages to handle the bali bombers case and the security accepted bribes to let a truck full of explsoives next to the embassy? Yet the pride in bali’s security is boasted about in corbys case? Stupid is as stupid does .But don’t dare come on here and say anyone deserves to die. Indo have said that they take emense pride in there tough laws on drugs, and say that it is most necessary to execute etc.... But the problem still exists .PErhaps bali are killing the innocent and letting the rich/ govt/ officials get away with corrupting beautiful indonesia?
Im sorry to say but i will never take myself and my gear over to any country that supports the death penalty, its bad enough john howard condoned it .
      MiCk .

WILLESEE POLL: Should Australia intervene if Schapelle Corby is convicted and sentenced to death?

      Yes 41%

      No 59%

Makes one feel real proud to be Australian... NOT!

    • Intervene in what way? With the forces?
      Indian

    • Unlike you, most Australians seem to be law-abiding and respectful of other country’s laws. Way to go Aussies!

    • i will personaly murder 5 Innocent indonesians for every Australia executed by the Indonesian goverment. Fuck with Australians will you? You little gook faggots will get whats coming to you.

^-------What i would say if i was like bush

The indonesians are just crazy, let her go for fuk sake. Or atleast give her life in prision. I belive she is innocent. I have sent emails to both of those addresses to do my part. Hope you Australians are going to atleast make an attempt at saving one of your own :)

    • The point is,the judiciary system in Indonesia is one of the most corrupt in the world. The power in Indonesia goes backwards and forwards between two organised crime families and the law is all dependent on how much money you have and how you speak to the authorities. When my son went for holidays to visit his father,he was always told by him to say nothing, look down and be polite to the point of grovelling with any authority figure.Numerous times, his fathers car is randomly pulled over by police and money is demanded, and he does not break the law.

The really sick thing about no-one wanting to help her is that when a certain australian couple were busted bringing large amounts of heroin out a few years ago,the government fought tooth and nail to get them released and they always do when heroin is involved. What that tells you about our government I dont know. The couple in question also had public and media support. Why?they were middle aged, with children, owned a business etc. This poor woman is young and single. If you live here you will find that the young people are blamed for every single problem the country has while the rich drug bosses get away with evertything. No one will support her coz she looks like the kind of person that is into drugs,ie she is young.
A prime example of this discrimination is the curfew the government is planning to impose on young drivers. They claim they are the main danger on the road.I heve been in two accidents in my 15 years of driving, both caused by men over 50.There was a man in his sixties who drove his car through a childcare centre not long back,no curfews for them though, coz they are not young.

If this woman was a forty year old junkie smuggling smack the government would be all over it in a second..sickening.

As for the person that thinks us aussies are all law abiding citizens, come live here.

    • Well if you claim that aussies are not law abiding then you just added to the case that corby is guilty.

    • Oh just give up. I don’t even think you’re serious at all, just trying to flame the comments. Are you the same idiot that wants to be on her firing squad?

    • So many here are crying out about Corby getting the death penalty. Some say that drugs have never been smuggled to Indonesia from Australia before and since its not logical, therefore she should be freed..... If it had only been that easy.

She has not been sentenced and none of us know the outcome of the trial. If it is so easy to find a logical answer to have her freed from custody there would be many ilogical cases of drug smugling in the years to come.
I think the Indonesians should take the time they need to sort out this case and we will just have to wait for the outcome.

I watched the documentary on 60-Minutes today and to be honest, she did not convince me. Still Corby is human and in trouble and need all the sympathy she can get. I have tried to put myself in her place and dont think I can imagine how she feels right now.
Instead of posting hate against a nation it might be a better idea to write Corby letters to make her feel better.

The weed is being tested in Australia to determine if its origin. If its Australian I think she is closer to a guilty verdict. Otherwise he future will look brighter.

Indian Ayodhya Prasad Chaubey, a Bangkok resident was arrested at his hotel in Indonesia after Saelow Praseart and Namsong Sirilak, a Thai couple arrested at the airport with 12 kilos of heroin. All 3 were shot but Chaubeys defence was that the drugs were not on him. He even denied all knowledge of this Thai couple. Why? To save his own skin. So he is on holiday in Indonesia and two Thais get busted and happens to guess the name of a Bangkok resident in an Indonesian hotel. So ilogical that it becomes logical.
Had it only been so easy to convince the courts.....

Calling Indonesia a nation of pigs is not the way to go.

      Indian

    • I had a similar reaction to the video. However, it was obvious that she was really stressed out from the trauma of being locked up for what has seemed to her an eternity.

What do you think of the idea of her taking a lie detector test? If I were Schapelle, I would volunteer to take the test to prove my innocence, and I would request this help from the Australian Federal Police. Mike MacLennan

    • My name is Mercedes Corby and Iam Schapelle’s sister. I am here in Bali with her now and will stay untill she goes home.. I have found this site just now on the net...Thankyou very much to the person who started it up. Most of the writers have sensible posts while there seems to one or two people who are just post for the sake of it and to cause conflict.

I would like to point out that with 60 minutes Schapelle was very upset and stressed. Myself and a few friends were unable to vistit her for 3 days as the press were camping in front of her cell and for us to visit she would of been paraded in front of them all. Schapelle is staying strong through us and her being able to see and talk to us is what is keeping her hopes up and her courage and faith. also take into consideration that she has never had a camera in her face before and it is said that she could be facing the death penality. (how do you think you would feel and act?) She was just answering the questions asked by Liz from 60 min and she wasn’t thinking that she had to convince all of australia that she was innocent. She is innocent!

We are all waiting for the trial, and we pray that she gets a fair one. It seems that here they have already decided her sentance before it even going before a judge. Indonesian law system has no shortage of flaws and is NOTHING like australian or american system.
We are still waiting for the AFP to start doing the tests for the maujuana, We really beleive that it did not come from Australia, HOw could it pass through 2 major airports?? With our secruity at airports they would of found it. Security at Brisbane said that it goes through the xray machine and if nothing suspisious is found the tape keeps rolling over.......So it would seem that there was nothing unusual in Schapelles bag!!!

I only wish that all of you had, had the pleasure to meet Schapelle and then you would have no doubt in your mind about her innocence. NOt one person who knows her or has met her has any doubt in their mind and are all supporting her.
There is not much we can do before the trial and our lawyers are working very hard to clear her name..

Also Schapelle loves Bali and the Bali people, she didn’t do this and was just comming to have a holiday and spend time with myself, balinese husband and our 2 children. Lets just pray this nightmare is over soon.
      Mercedes Corby

    • Mike, Its MErcedes again. Schapelle has asked about doing a lie detector test but now days they can not be used in the court of law. It will be a waist of time to do one as even though it would show she is telling the truth it can not prove anything..

ps: (the indonesian form of a lie detector is torture!!!) this still happens here and more often then you would believe...

    • Even if a lie detector test is not valid in an Indonesian court, it must be to Corbys advantage if she passes the test.

Lets all hope that she gets a fair trail and that she gets treated with dignity in prison.

      Indian

    • Hi Mercedes,

This is Mike MacLennan, and thank you for your explanations and insights into what a nice person your sister is. They have motivated me to do some serious re-thinking of the 60 minutes transcript. I wish you all the very best, and pray that the truth will emerge in relation to how the plastic bags got into Schapelle’s bag.

It seems that we in Australia never learn from our own history and mistakes. What 60 minutes did to Schapelle, the Australian media did to another woman “Lindy Chamberlain”, and she was tried and found guilty by the media before her trial.

In regard to Schapelle, Liz Hayes began her remarks with the statement : “Tonight, a rare opportunity, a chance for you to judge for yourself.” And, unfortunately a large percentage of us did exactly what Liz wanted us to do – we judged Schapelle. And so what was the criteria 60 minutes presented to judge Schapelle? The forensic tests by the Australian Federal Police? The testimonies of respected members of society both in Indonesia and Australia that have known Schapelle or her family for many years? Statements from Australian customs officials as to their policies of baggage screening? etc., etc.?

But instead of interviewing such people, Liz Hayes took the role herself of a key witness by testifying that “At no stage in Australia was the boogie bag weighed individually nor was it screened for drugs.” (no support from any airport authority)

But we common travelers, in the real world, all know from the extreme security measures taken at Australian airports because of International Terrorism, that every little thing of the bags is thoroughly checked, not to mention 4 kg of pot, that would raise the alarm on any modern X-ray machine because of some unidentified plastic bag! “Oh no, plastic explosives!” The security inspectors just don’t know, and so they have to examine every little thing very carefully! So sorry Liz, but your argument just got flushed down the toilet.

Now let’s take her star witness against Schapelle, the Senior Customs officer: it’s interesting how she got his testimony behind Schapelle’s back, and so Schapelle was not able to follow the context of his remarks, and not only that, she committed the error of asking him for his opinion, instead of just sticking with the facts. In a real court Mr. GUSTO WINATA would have been counseled by the judge not to answer Ms. Hayes question “Do you believe they were Schapelle Corby’s drugs?” Because she was asking Mr. Winata for his opinion and judgment rather than keeping to the facts of the case. After all that is the purpose of the real court – to determine if they were Schapelle’s drugs or if someone planted them there. The only fact emerging from his testimony was that the drugs were found in Schapelle’s bag, and most of what he said did seem to correspond to what Schapelle said, and in no way did Liz try to harmonise what he said with what Schapelle said, even though he quoted the exact words Schapelle said in the interview, and she was giving it from her perspective as a woman in shock! The shock of just discovering that someone had planted what looked to be drugs in her bag! Sure, Mr. Winata can calmly observe her like a hawk, and note every detail to minute exactness, while Schapelle is blown away off her feet with this most shocking discovery! But will an Australian woman admit that, especially in relation to another man? And while he watched her like a hawk, she calmly said “He barely looked at me. I opened them myself.” In my opinion we may have to take this into account to make sense of this, and also consider her circumstances and the trauma that she went through surviving an Indonesia jail face to face with the Bali bomber.

Away from the 60 minutes interview to other news that made headlines a couple of days ago, where we have just seen the allegations of an Australian undercover cop who has alleged “that Australian customs and quarantine officers are involved” in smuggling pot from PNG in exchange for weapons via the Torres strait islands. See http://www.theage.com.au/news/Natio...

Could it be that these same Customs officers had decided to expand their drug network to Indonesia?

In regard to those Lie Detector tests: Well there are some islands somewhere, and I don’t want to make the mistake of identifying the islands, where suspects are tied to a rope and thrown off the top of a tall grass hut down to the ground. If they survive the fall, they are considered innocent. Has the media already done this to Schapelle?

To end on something positive: like I have said before, Indonesians are some of the nicest people in the world. I have had several Indonesian friends here in the Dominican Republic and they are such positive, friendly and dynamic people. Their cooking is so delicious.

I admire the love that you and Schapelle have for Bali and the Indonesian people. Keep up the good work.

      Mike

    • Any bookmakers taking bets out there, she wouldnt even get 100 to 1 And as for the AFP helping, help themselves is more like it, go and get the statistics on crooked cops and what makes you think they would care about this Australian cow anyway, what a dreamer!!!!

  • Indonesia is notoriousy corrupt, (5th in the world). routinely languishing near the bottom of the corruption indexes, and the rot has spread though certain sections of the police and judiciary. Sources say some of the wealthier nad more savvy foreigners caught with drugs can bribe police officers and avod court alltoger, while others less lucky are kept in prison paying bribes until their funds are exhausted.
Certainly it is widely know that some within the indonesian military and police have a hand in drug- smuggling and drug distribution across the sprawling archipelago, and the forces occasionally have turf battles over particular areas. Yet it is dificult to find a case of a soldier or police officer facing justice for drug crimes.
This girl may of been used as a decoy and other heavy drugs or money could of followed her through customs as all the customs officers were busy with her. Getting off a plane after a long flight, it could be easy to not relialise you had an extra 4 kg in your bag.(I know for sure I wouldn’t of picked it up, and I am a regular traveller).

    • Hello Mercedes.

Is it possible to post Schapelles address in Bali here so that those who wish might be able to send her a few words of comfort?

Not that it will change her actual situation but it certainly would be nice for her to know that people out there do care.

If you do decide to post her address, it might be most useful with a few guidelines on what to write about and what not to.

    • Not only is the indonesian system corrupt, but its just stupid. Regardless of who it is you dont execute someone for drug smuggling. I belive "An eye for an eye". In other words only give someone what they deserve. I belive one should only be executed if they have taken the life of another human being. But like i had said above, I do belive your sister is innocent. We just have to hope for a miracle. ....

    • Is this thread closed?
      Indian

    • no it isn’t closed :)

    • No miracles here she will get what she deserves. All you Australians go around saying your just so good and we do nothing wrong, if it was a Indonesian person in Australia doing the same thing they would have them convicted to the maximum that law permits. You put her address up, maybe someone send her razor blades so she can commit suicide she is a liar, Indonesia corrupt? Australia is a lot worse the way they treat people from foreign land, racist pigs are all Australians,

    • All this is pretty well mute now, her travel profile suggests that she’s been dabbling for a while. And increasing in her boldness and obvious level of stupidity.

A BOOGY BOARD BAG was it ???

      9 pounds was it ???

      Give us a break !!!

I am an Australian and I’ve enjoyed my share of pot in the confines of my own home and that of friends in my younger days, so don’t go getting me wrong PLEASE...

I simply ask WHO do you know that could possibly be so stupid not to notice that the bag collected after arrival was no different than the one that she herself packed?

And the answer to a question so often raised in this thread - why would anyone smuggle drugs from Australia to Bali?

It’s simple...for the consumption of young Aussie tourists not wanting to be setup by all these corrupt local officials so often mentioned in this thread.

Get a grip will you all...

Hundreds of thousnads and possably more than a million or so people are dead.

And a great deal more are is real perril right now, through no fault of their own - after Christmas’ disaster.

Put your efforts where they’re genuinely needed...

All this rubbish about buying bullets and sending razor blades or how could this happen to such a pretty little thing...

Send blankets. Send money. Go yourself instead of taking a holiday...but do something that is really needed.

Instead of indulging in all this useless twaddle.

    • I thought that the bag was on a conveyor belt when it was scanned by the customs and when she went to fetch it she was asked to open it.

All the news I have been reading never suggested that she actually carried the bag at the airport before she was busted.

One thing I dont know is what a Boogey bag is. Some articles mentioned body bag. What does the contents of this bag normally weigh?

Had it been 20 kilos, it would be difficult to notice the 4 kilos extra weight. Had it been 2 kilos, she should have noticed the difference in weight....Just a thought.

      Indian

    • I hope she rots away in prison.

    • We hope you do

    • This girl is going nowhere, every junkie always says thats no mine, i didnt do it. The police only look at you for 2 reasons (1) if someone gives information about you (2) if you do someting that they see and it draws attention. Also, why would the Australia government help her, they are not a free legal department, shes just a nobody. Her matters will fade from piblic memory and no one will remember her name in a few months time. I suppose if she gets shot all the parents could do is forget they have a daughter. And how does any parent know what their children get up to. i know when mine go out i dont know what they do, anyway to all the corby supporters kind words and prayers are a waste of time. Drug dealers are truly evil people and this is a example that evil people get caught and she will be handed a sentence appropriate for the crime she has committed. Shes in trouble, she would have more chance winning lotto than getting out of this.

    • For a bag with a zipper and no lock with a bulge just beneath it’s surface of 4.1 kg of marijuana in a clear plastic bag - to pass undetected out of the Brisbane airport as checked luggage, and then go in transit into Sydney and out of Sydney on an international flight - for all of that to happen is as much chance - like you said of Corby winning the "Lotto." Or is that how you think your "evil" drug smugglers work? Realistically, drug smugglers try to hide their drugs: they conceal them in plastic bags hidden in their stomachs. They create false compartments in their luggage to hide the drugs, or use some toy or handicraft etc.

The way Corby’s bags were packed has no element of trying to hide anything, by being placed in a clear plastic bag, and being just below the surface in an un-locked zippered bag.

So the odds are by far in favour of Corby and not the way you have presented it. Mike MacLennan

    • I knew he at school and she was a dope head then. Shes not as innocent as she makes out!

    • To ’I knew he at school’ -the persons gender is female, which tends to make your testimony slightly suspect.

    • Who cares how this person spell it she is fucked, believe me she get big jail term for what she do. What because she australian she innocent she pack her own bag she know what in it, you liar, liar, liar liar you naughty girl, you pay the price now i hope you get death judgment because you think you smart arse australian. we not like australian bitch like you in our good country.

    • I aggree i think shes guilty, she say customs lie, truth is she lie. All drug dealers lie, our judges will decide her fate.

    • How dare she say our customs official lie, she big liar what else would she say. this is very dirty girl she get death penalty for sure.

    • ’I knew he at school and she was’....the gender is fine here. The missing ’r’ to the he could be easily been a typing fault. What is so suspect about this?
The whole case gets confusing as it goes on.
It must be to the advantage to both Corby and the prosecution that the bags are checked for fingerprints. The prosecution refusing this is suspect. Are they hidfing something? Perhaps corrupt indonesian officials who are involved in this case? Or the prosecutors office?
This case is very difficult since Corby still insists that she did not know anything about the dope. Why the refusal by the prosecution to do the fingerprint tests? I thought that fingerprints were elementary to criminal cases.

    • i cant beleive the last messages that have just been posted - dirty, dirty pig???? what is that - come on guys- give the girl a break - all the evidence points to her being innocent- how do you think that her family that are posting on this site feel reading that mindless crap.

      paula

    • If you had ever lost a child to the menace of drugs. You would never want her to see daylight again. I have been to Gold Coast and local Girls there were trying to sell my daughters drugs, maybe it was this same girl. The manager of hotel tell us lot of young people on Gold Coast on drugs.

Australians not very smart people and they do lots of silly things, so this no surprise to me. You should also know that if you get caught in Queensland Australia with this much ganja you get life sentence, so in jail in Bali or Queensland its all the same, only difference nice weather and nicer food in bali.

    • Your points on Queensland and the Bali food are on target, and it’s in this context that Schapelle surrendered her big bag to be scrutinized by the Queensland X-ray machines, and she never saw that bag again, until Mr. Winata was asking her to open it in Bali. But apparently X-ray machines were not needed to detect the marijuana, because Schapelle was able to detect that characteristic smell on just opening the zipper of her bag - because the stuff was not not tightly sealed. So those dogs at both Brisbane and Sydney airports could have easily found that bag - but isn’t it strange that: (1) Schapelle’s bag was screened at Brisbane (Queensland) airport and nothing abnormal. (2) The bag was even more vigorously screened at Sydney for the international flight - and still nothing abnormal. (3) But on arrival in Bali, the bag failed the Bali X-ray machine test. Strange that it passed the X-ray tests of Brisbane and Sydney and failed the Bali X-ray tests. It’s also strange (like Indian wrote) that the accusers of Schapelle haven’t even bothered to do the rutine analysis that police generally do - to make a case against someone - like analyzing the outer and inner bags for fingerprints. So the idea that she would be condemned in Queensland doesn’t hold water, because she already passed the Queensland X-ray tests of her bags..... however, I do agree with you about the great food and weather in Bali - not to mention the wonderful SCUBA diving in Indonesia. Mike MacLennan

    • You are one sick person!! If you are from Indonesia you would know how hard your life is with the corupt officials!!! Anything that you want to do you have to pay for.. Of course they would lie if they have been told to. australian people are not raciest it seems that you are!!!!

    • "her travel profile suggests that she’s been dabbling for a while. and increasing in her boldness and obvious level of stupidity"

It seems that you are the stupid one!!!! She has not travelled for 5 years and alot of the papers have reported that.. Before that she use to live and work in Japan so she only travelled to and from Japan and Australia sometimes with a stop over in Bali as it was her transit... Maybe you have never travel before and don’t understand that people do it all the time!!

A boogy board bag is: A bag which is made to hold a boogy board, a boogy board is for surfing!
      Schapelle is a surfer..

If you had travelled before you would know that after a long trip and a couple of other suitcases to carry you would not notice 4kg extra!! So she is not stupid, I think she is normal.
so you say you use to smoke pot when you where younger?/ Then you would know the price of it in australia?? In Bali it is cheap!! You would lose money if you took it to Bali from Australia and if you sold the stuff in Sydney you would make heaps....

Answer to the question?? You are the stupid one!

    • " every Junkie always says thats no mine"

Maybe you don’t know this but schapelle is not a Junkie and the police in Bali took blood and urine samples and all the tests were negative.. (Which means she is not a drug user). Marijuanna stays in the body’s system for 2 months or longer and other heavy drugs at least a week. Her test were negative so it is true she never smoked marujuanna or takes other drugs!!. I think that this should be in her favor.

Also have you seen the pics of the stuff in the plastic bags?? It seems that whoever put it in her bag wanted it to be found. All to strange! and she doesn’t come across stupid. If you were really trying to smuggle drugs into a country you would try to hide it or at least have locks on your bag and not your name tag attached to it...

To all those who want her to be shot.... You must be so unhappy. It seems that you like to see others in trouble or in pain so that you can forget about your own..
