Fears were growing overnight that today’s G8 summit in Scotland was set to be derailed by violence and political bickering.
Sir Bob Geldof, the organiser of the weekend’s Live8 concerts to fight poverty, was downbeat last night.
"We have the potential to make this an historic G8," Geldof said.
"But I don’t think they (G8 leaders) are anywhere near there."
More than 60 people were arrested in Edinburgh as violent protesters infiltrated mass demonstrations for G8.
Police fears that highly organised and violent professional demonstrators would join the largely peaceful protests organised by the musician and campaigner Geldof were confirmed in the Scottish capital.
There were fears the violence would worsen as the summit went on, especially as it was expected to fall well short of demands for African aid.
Scottish police blamed the violence on about 1000 hard-core militants.

I apologize for posting a non-related comment (see below), but I think it is important. Please read.
Awhile back I decided that I was going to do my best not to give any of my money (or as little as is possible) to the rotten-parasitic-bloodthirsty scum bags who support the thugs. And I just found a way!!! I found a link that lists the political donors in YOUR neighborhood. It also lists their profession and what party they donated funds to. I have just spent the last two hours making a local list of doctors, dentists, accounts, etc.
Would you consider highlighting this idea of mine on your site and encouraging your readers to post this message on the other blogs that they visit? I really think that this could be a worthwhile effort so that we could better support each other and put ALL (not just the discretionary portion) of our money to good use. Thanks.

It’s also referred to as the Hegelian Dialect after the philosopher Georg Hegel who wrote about its effectiveness. He described it as: THESIS — ANTI-THESIS — SYNTHESIS.
Others have described it as: PROBLEM — REACTION — SOLUTION in that firstly you create the problem; then secondly you fan the flames to get a reaction; then thirdly (like Johnny-on-the-spot) you provide a solution. The solution is what you were wanting to achieve in the first place, but wouldn’t have been able to achieve under normal circumstances.
