Israel denied access to a group of 130 international human rights and peace activists of the Caravan for Justice in Palestine, who tried to access the country, coming from Jordan, Palestinian sources reported on Friday.

The activists were interrogated for nine hours, according to the source, before they were forced to return to Jordan.

The Israeli embassy to Amman claimed the activists want “to go to Israel to hold provocative activities,” and that “every country has the right to decide who enters its territories.”

The delegation included members from 18 countries including France, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico and Germany. Three of the 130 strong delgation were children._

According to Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, the soldiers prevented the activists from entering Israel, stamped their passports with a mark that will prohibit them from entering Israel or the Palestinian Territories for the rest of their lives and forcefully dragged them onto busses, which then sent them back to Jordan. Soldiers beat, dragged, and pushed many of the Caravaners and confiscated one of their cameras while they were forcing them onto the buses. Israel brought extra security forces onto the scene to carry out the forced evacuation._

The Caravaners have been on the road for over two weeks on the way from Strasbourg, France, to their destination in Jerusalem to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand that Israel comply with international law, UN resolutions and the International Court of Justice decision last summer that declared the Apartheid Wall unlawful and ruled that all states party to the Fourth Geneva Convention do everything in their power to see that Israel complies with the ruling, tears down the Wall and compensates all victims._

According to the organizers, the Caravan for Justice in Palestine is a group of over 150 activists who have made a caravan trip from France through Geneva, Bologna, Trieste, Patras, Athens, Istanbul, Ankara, Damascus, Amman, and many other big cities to reach Palestine._

Along its way, the delegation met with UN and government representatives to plead the case for international law in solving the Israel/Palestine conflicts._

The Caravan members, according to organizers, believe that the application of international law is the key to resolving the conflict, and have decided to produce a strong and united civil society showing in support of it._

Israel has become more active in preventing peace activists from entering the country because of mounting nonviolent anti-occupation activities organized by the International Solidarity Movement and other peace groups that function in the area._

  • if radical persians would cease in their efforts to destroy the nation of isreal this kind of precaution wouldn’t be needed. it’s just a darn shame, really.

    • The nation of Israel is destroying itself. Germany exists; but Nazi Germany needed to be destroyed. Israel exists, but its conduct, so similar to Nazi Germany’s, is reason for the current "nation" or its leadership to be dissolved into nothingness. Maybe Israel as a nation can re-find its soul, but so long as it treats the Palestinians as "cockroaches" (their word, not mine) the same way that Nazi Germany treated Gypsies, the mentally ill, Catholics and anyone else who opposed Hitler as well as the Jews, then "Israel" is unworthy of existence.

We need to remember that 6 million persons who were not Jews were also killed by Hitler. The Jews as victims do not have a proprietory claim on "holocaust" for they are doing the same thing now to the Palestinians as Hitler did to his enemies.

  • The Israeli henchmen don’t need witnesses, that is for sure. Any kind of killing and theft can be committed, because the great terrorist nation of the USA supports Israel with 13 billions of tax money.
And of course those Palestines who object and fight in an undelcared war are called terrorists.

Even the Nazis had a kind of "murderous" honesty, they just proclaimed to the Jews: we have to wipe you out.

The similarity between Nazis and Israel and his ally becomes more and more obvious.

The world is watching a holocaust against muslims.

    • Those who want to change the United States policy about Israel need to inform the general public, i.e. citizens who vote, of what is going on in Israel. It is amazing how "ignorant of the truth and facts" American voters are. Israel controls the flow of information, not just people who go in and out of Israel. Americans don’t read - they "watch" the "headlines" on the TV and then ignore the rest. The U.S. acts as if it were a vassal of Israel. To change this a gigantic effort of education and consciousness-raising has to be done in the U.S. We need all the educational help we can get. If you readers don’t have the wherewithal to help, then pray for us and the U.S. that we learn somehow - rather than listen to our politicians tell us fairy-tales, what we want to hear. There’s a long road ahead; keep on truckin’.

      Sorry about that.
