Edito Religions-Beliefs Governments South/Latin America Mary MacElveen

by Mary MacElveen

Just yesterday in his broadcast on the 700 Club Reverend Pat Robertson called for the assassination of President Hugo Chavez who is the President of Venezuela.

I find this outrageous coming from an alleged man of God.

I find this equally outrageous that a man who believes in the sanctity of all human life would call for this.

By calling for a world leader’s assassination, this proves that he is NOT PRO LIFE, but part of the sick machine that has taken hold of our country in Washington, D.C. where death goes hand in hand with the promotion of their agendas.

Here is the transcript where Pat Robertson calls for this action:

ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he’s going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don’t think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can’t let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

What I am STRONGLY suggesting to all of you is to call for the revocation of the Christian Broadcasting Networks FCC license.

Pat Robertson states of Venezuela, that they are “controlling a huge pool of oil that could hurt us very badly.”

Let us all remember that this oil belongs to the people of Venezuela and it does not belong to us.

We are not entitled to it, and President Chavez has every right to sell it to whomsoever he chooses.

Inasmuch as Pat Robertson calls President Chavez a “dangerous enemy,” President Chavez has rightfully also called Bush, “Mr. Danger”

* I am asking you to call in to the Christian Broadcasting Network to vent your outrage that this alleged man of God would call for the killing of another.

This proves that the religious right-wing fanatics are NOT PRO LIFE. They are truly the enemy and we only have to look at Bush who. through the help of these groups. became our president.

* Tell Pat Robertson that, through sales of CITGO oil, many of the profits go to feed the poor in 1,100 food centers that President Chavez has set up.

What has Bush done to feed the poor here?

Remind him of this fact that Castro gave access to thousands of Venezuelans in his country for free medical care and he did so by partnering with President Chavez.

* Bush has not even addressed the millions that go without health care in this country.

If these are the acts of an enemy, I would not mind being governed by a man who is looking out for the poor and powerless. In fact, I would welcome it.

As one who normally stands up for anyone’s right to free speech, I find Robertson’s tirade to be offensive and the equivalent of shouting fire where the end result could be the assassination of President Chavez.

In closing, there is NO finding ‘common ground’ with these zealots and fanatics.

I am of the belief that through actions such as this, they promote terror.

So, why not use the Patriot Act (which I abhor) against these fanatics?

After all, they wanted it; now let them suffer the consequences of it.

Reverend Pat Robertson Has Called for the Assassination of Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez.

by Mary MacElveen

To My Fellow Americans and the World Community,

I am angry, shocked and horrified to learn where Reverend Pat Robertson has come out calling for the assassination of President Hugo Chavez as reported by MediaMatters.org. I am urging all of you to visit their site and listen to their video feed where this so called man of God calls for killing a President who has led his country in the right direction. Please go to this link to view the video feed, http://mediamatters.org/items/200508220006 at their site you can also read a copy of the transcript where he calls for this action. Pat Robertson states of Venezuela, that they are “controlling a huge pool of oil that could hurt us very badly.” Let us all remember that this oil belongs to the people of Venezuela and it does not belong to us. We are not entitled to it and President Chavez has every right to sell it to whomever he chooses to. When Pat Robertson calls President Chavez a “dangerous enemy” President Chavez and rightfully so has called Pres. Bush, “Mr. Danger”

From MediaMatters.org:

Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network’s The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. To aid you in your correspondence and calls, please visit VHeadline.com to read up on Pres. Chavez and you will see he is a true man of courage for standing up to Pres. Bush. Tell Pat Robertson that through sales of CITGO oil, many of the profits go to feed the poor in 1,100 food centers that Pres. Chavez has set up. What has Pres. Bush done to feed the poor here? Remind him of this fact that Pres. Castro gave access to thousands of Venezuelans into his country for free medical care and he did so by partnering with Pres. Chavez. Pres. Sincerely,

Mary MacElveen!

  • I believe there is strong reason

to call for the revocation of the Christian Broadcasting Networks FCC license.

This is an actual promotion of an act of terrorism, and not just an act of terrorism, but something that could engage the United States in actual war with Venezuala.

The State Department has rejected outright the comment but,

    Nothing could be more clear.

Pat Robertson is the founder of CBN and should be help accountable for his words.

He is cleric, and as a cleric he has advocated violence.

This is no difference from Muslim clerics who have been imprisoned for such, and have stated that they have not ever said such things.

    We have this on tape.

It is not as if he had someone on who he didn’t know was going to say something like this.

He is the President of CBN

The CBN license should be pulled and he should be charged with a terrorist act under the present laws set up by Bush,

  • PAT AND GEORGE 2 SICK SOBS. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAD BETTER WAKE UP BECAUSE SOONER OR LATER ANOTHER COUNTRY IS GOING TO LEVEL THIS PLACE BECAUSE OF THE LOWLIFES LIKE BUSH AND PAT A SO CALLED CRISTIAN. THAT SHOULD SHOW THE MIND SET OF THESES PEOPLE. INSANE SICK BASTERS
    FLOYD

  • Robertson must not be aware of the specific prohibition of assassinations of foreign leaders. See Executive Order 12333, 12/4/1981.

Aware or not, at best the man is truly an hypocritical sleaze. As others have noted, pressure should be put on the FCC to revoke the licenses of stations whose management actively promote illegal violence.

It would be enlightening for CBN to do an expose on Robertson and his ties to Ben Waldman, who was his presidential campaign manager. Mr. Waldman was an executive with the seamy SunCruz gambling boat operation running out of Florida.

  • I think Good Ol’ Boy Pat needs a nice long vacation so he can read the New Testament in that Bible he loves to thump - but obviously not read. When Moses came down the hill, he had ten simple rules. It seems to me "Thou Shalt Not Kill" was prominent in that list of ten rules. Christ himself is attributed as saying "love thy neigbor as thyself." I’d be utterly surprised if a single true Christian is anywhere near his sick 700 club channel on Sunday. Christ was a liberal and Robertson is a sham.

  • In Europe and especial in Germany there is a law against this kind of "freakdom of speech" also related to their painful history. Robertson would face a prison sentence not less then 2 years.

As the word of Robertson passes around the world - America has lost again. Nobody believe the bablefish talks of Bush. And did you see how intelligent Chavez acted on this request to murder him.

Now it is clear for all civilized people around the world that "Mad Evil" rules America. And FOX? My goodness Americans should wake up! Defending those position makes the world more dangerous each day.

  • I agree with Mary’s caricature of Robertson. He’s a dangerous man in a dangerous world of lunatics. The most dangerous being those in power in Washington; our "perceived" elected leaders.

But to call for the use of Fascism (the Patriot Act) against him because of his statements, lowers us to the level of those who instilled this dictatorial doctrine into our system of laws. I’d first call for the repeal of that insideous Act before using it on anyone. It was, afterall, pre-written, ready and waiting for the 911 controlled demolitions, then passed like greased lightening by a Congress who hadn’t read a word of it. It smells rather like a plan, don’t you think?

The problem with the Act itself is that the very word ’terrorist’ is defined so vaguely that even a well-meaning religious leader who calls for the ousting of, say, Bush or Rumsfeld could be a victim of the iron hammer as well. Robertson should be viewed just as he is; a morally bankrupt, inflated ego with absoultely no connection to true human spirituality.

Mary MacElveen’s call for the rescinding of the licensing of the Christian Brodcasting is far more appealing and probably a much more effective a means of preventing the radical religious fanatics from infusing even more hate into this nonsensical battle between good and evil (neither of which can be defined) The 700 Club should also be viewed as it is; just another Fortune 500 company wannabe.

Religion today is far from its intention. Those who abhore the clamoring by these radicals should act by hitting them where they are most sensative - in the wallet.

  • You lefties are the most hypocritical set of people on the earth. First of all, are you aware that Muslim clerics routinely and constantly call for the killing of the "infidels’ and not a blasted one of you every opens your mouth about it. OK?? Britain just had to pass a law prohibiting this type of abusive speech, I don’t know if you are aware of that. I’ve never once heard any of you denounce that type of rhetoric. If you are against that type of talk, then you should be against it no matter to whom it is directed. That goes especially true for you sorry Americans on this site.

Pat Robertson was WRONG WRONG WRONG to say what he said. I cannot imagine what he was thinking to make such a ridiculous, inane comment as that. The White House has denounced and distanced itself from such rubbish. Let it go at that. You are so quick to denounce religious people How about Comrade Dan Rather who accepted falsified documents and promoted them as authentic? Should the license of CBS be revoked? No, because at least Rather is a liberal, Bush hating Democrat, right?

    • This guy Robertson does not represent Christianity, nor does any of the American government!

...and Jesus turned away and wept bitterly, because he was betrayed again by the American brothers.

Murder, torture and ambush is not right, if you do it America!

    • " Most hypocritical set of people on earth......." Let’s see, Pat Robertson professes to follow and teach THOU SHALL NOT KILL by calling for the assassination of an elected head of state, head U.S. Christian G.W.B. professes to follow THOU SHALL NOT KILL and THOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS by invading Iraq on phoney evidence and Dr. James Dobson professes to follow THE GOLDEN RULE by publishing Michael Moore’s personal address in his newsletter....... but , hey, those damn LEFTIES are the most hypocritical set of people on earth. O.K how’s this : any cleric, Muslim or Christian or Hindu or whatever, who incites hatred and violence should be jailed or deported. And the only sorry Americans on this site are the ones that think you make sense.

  • Pat Robertson has put every American in Venezuela in danger. Should something happen to Mr. Chavez, whether it be accidental or intentional, who do you think the general population will blame?

  • Much like Limbaugh who recently broadcasted lies about Cindy Sheehan, Robertson has now back-peddled and attempted to claim he never said those words. Fortunately for us there are tapes and video. Robertson, like Limbaugh, has now apologized but only because he, like Limbaugh, was trapped by those videos and tapes.

Had the visual and audio not been available, they both would have gone on claiming they never spoke those words. More lies on top of lies. They are both of the same mold - Liars - much like their president and his administration.

Pay no attention to their apologies. They showed their TRUE COLORS with their lies and their initial statements. You can lump Falwell in with them too.

Lord save me from your followers!

    • I don’t understand it, has Pat tired of bilking "little old white haired ladies" out of their life savings? This hypocrite should have been put in jail years ago. He is also one of the main instigators of this countries support of the Zionist terroist state of Israel. He makes sure that the money keeps flowing to them. Pat why don’t you send some of your own money to them?
