GILLIGAN DIES

The LouisvilleChannel.com reported today, September 6, 2005, that Bob Denver, TV’s Gilligan, died at age 70, Friday at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, after quadruple bypass surgery earlier.
His wife, Dreama, and 3 children were with him when he died. Denver was born Jan. 9, 1935, in New Rochelle, N.Y. Bob Denver’s was best known as “Gilligan”, the goofy first mate of "The S.S. Minnow," that made him a television icon.
He played Gilligan on TV, on an uncharted island, from 1964 to 1967.
We shall miss the inept, dumb-looking Gilligan, with a genius for creating local disasters, never completely separating reality from fantasy, but somehow surviving each accident that he created with complete incomprehension, a dead-pan look, and boundless optimism.
May he rest in a land of coco-palms, lagoons, fake cannibals, gorilla attacks, gorgeous leading ladies, wealthy tycoons, scientists, and kind skippers.

Gilligan aka Maynard G. Krebs took America through some very difficult times through his talented whimsical ways. He will be missed not only by his loved ones but by the many loved ones in the entertainment community and moreover his viewing audience. May he rest in peace.
