WASHINGTON - Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has used her son’s death in Iraq to spur the anti-war movement, was arrested Monday while protesting outside the White House.

Sheehan and several dozen other protesters sat down on the sidewalk after marching along the pedestrian walkway on Pennsylvania Avenue. Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along, then began making arrests.

Sheehan, 48, was the first taken into custody. She stood up and was led to a police vehicle while protesters chanted, "The whole world is watching."

Sheehan’s 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in an ambush in Sadr City, Iraq, last year. She attracted worldwide attention last month with her 26-day vigil outside President Bush’s Texas ranch.

Sheehan was among several hundred demonstrators who marched around the White House on Monday and then stopped in front and began singing and chanting "Stop the war now!"

The demonstration is part of a broader anti-war effort on Capitol Hill organized by United for Peace and Justice, an umbrella group. Representatives from anti-war groups were meeting Monday with members of Congress to urge them to work to end the war and bring home the troops.

The protest following a massive demonstration Saturday on the National Mall that drew a crowd of 100,000 or more, the largest such gathering in the capital since the war began in March 2003.

    • Most of the arrests were made by Park Police as the sidewalk which we were occupying is under their jurisdiction. There were approximately 400 arrests overall. Prisoners were taken away on buses and detained at a facility in South East DC for almost 11 hours.

    as the mothers of the fallen step up so will others follow ... the right of the people to freely assemble has been taken away ... the rainbow family was the only group that stood on that right for over 30 years ... we signed NO PERMITS .... two years ago this January ... we had a meeting with the Top Forestery People and the FEMA law enforcement people who have been practicing the "round up" of citizens in a rural setting with "horses and dogs" at the gatherings for years ... were also there and the woman lawyer who was just under Ashcroft and who wrote the right of the people to peaceful assembly basically out of our rights was also there ... if no permits, she said, then arrests will begin ...

    federal operatives now sign permits for "us" and "run" our gatherings ...

    we are still standing on the right of the people to freely assemble and so is Cindy Sheehan and the Vets against the Illegal War (s)

    that usually leads to arrests ... as Sophi Scholl of the White Rose Resistance against Hitler, so eloquently said "Somebody after all had to make a start !" ... she was later beheaded along with her brother and their best friend ... walking with her head held high ... as does Cindy Sheehan and all of us who will also stand against this extremely tyrannical cabal "occupying the white house"....

    • It’s an opportunity to check up on Cindy Sheehan (search). Remember her?

      Cindy got in some trouble with her own anti-war folks this past weekend when she complained about TV coverage of the hurricanes. She wanted some face time for her anti-war protest.

      Here’s what she said on a liberal Web site Saturday afternoon about 3:30 ET when Rita was just 12 hours on shore and peoples homes were smashed and water logged:

      " ... It is a little wind and a little rain ... It is bad but there are other things going on in this country today ... and in the world!"

      Her anti-war buddies didn’t like that so much. One immediately wrote back:

      "They’ve lost their homes, jobs and businesses and gone through fear and panic while you bask in your fan’s adulation, party with your celebrity friends and play the star. Shame on you, you’re jealous of media coverage of others’ suffering. You’ve become a caricature and I no longer support you. I’m ashamed I ever did."

  • "used her son’s death"—the most accurate phrase the MSM has used to describe Ms. Sheehan. The only time I’ve seen her smile was getting arrested for the adoring cameras. Kind of creepy.

    By the way, what were her late son’s thoughts on the war? Oops, that’s irrelevant.

  • My son is a Marine in the war. These young men enlisted for the embetterment of America. Many know that the war is a lie and has been created for the wealthy. They do not want to kill innocent people, but are commanded to do just that.

    Those who have sold their souls and overlooked the illegal actions of the American govenment, (Reps & Dems) will have to live with the darkness until judgment day..

    Many of our troops know the truth and do see the light. God will let the light (truth) be known. The illumaniti will be exposed and destroyed. Satan, his darkness, will not win.

Tim to loosen those tinfoil hats people. They are clearly limiting the blood flowing to your brains.
