David Boren Is Already Changing History About the University of Oklahoma Bomb

School-University Attack-Terrorism USA

At this time the FBI is identifying University of Oklahoma junior Joel Henry Hinrichs III "as the person who was killed when an explosive attached to his body detonated near a packed football stadium," according to the Associated Press. He is listed in the OU directory as an engineering student.

If this is true, it does not verify the claim of OU president David Boren that this was just an "individual suicide" with no terrorist intentions. It does not rule out the possibility of an accidental detonation before the bomber reached his target. The event took place near the OU stadium, while a football game was in progress.

As we have seen in the case of Timothy McVeigh, Americans can conduct terrorism against other Americans. The high school shootings of the 90s, as shown by the Columbine massacre, have demonstrated that some American youth are capable of conducting indiscriminate murder in the absence of vindictive motives against specific individuals.

This morning (10/2/05) The Oklahoman reported that after the explosion, "police also found an explosive device in the area and detonated it." Boren, mentor and patron of George Tenet, is now reversing this. The AP reports:

"Authorities haven’t identified what kind of explosive device was used. Boren initially said a second explosive device was detonated by a bomb squad Saturday night, but later said no other devices had been discovered. "

And then we read this odd statement:

"Authorities used a ’mild explosive device’ to detonate a backpack found near the explosion, but it did not contain explosive materials, Boren said."

Were "authorities" willing to put their hands on the backpack to open it up and see what was inside of it before detonating it with the other device? This is most unlikely !! How did they know that it contained no explosive materials? This looks like another figment of Boren’s extremely fertile imagination.

Why is David Boren allowed to be taken seriously by the press while making statements which should come only from criminal investigators?

Boren’s goal is to convince the public that this event was about a single individual with a history of emotional problems who wanted to commit suicide but had no desire to inflict death or injury on anyone else. At the bottom of it is his strong desire to keep attendance up at OU football games. To pay for his 2002 stadium expansion, annual debt service of about $5 million has been obligated for three
decades.

David Boren lies frequently and without restraints. Last week, at the dedication of a new business building at OU, he claimed that the school is in Forbes magazine’s "top 50 business colleges":

This claim by Boren could not be verified, from inspecting the Forbes website on 10/2/05:

  • And who’s to say whether the suicide victim wasn’t acting under duress? Maybe the kid from Colorado has a girlfriend or other friends/family that are being held hostage. Also, a trooper with OHP told me that the bomb squad DID detonate a second bomb.
