The New Old Strategery for Failed Victory

By Peter Fredson

December 5, 2005

After a recent Bush speech to Annapolis Cadets the Pentagon announced a “growing consensus” to cut down on the number of U.S. troops in Iraq.

It seems to me a stronger statement would have been that, in view of very strong criticism, Bush is now, at least, considering doing “something” about the Iraq quagmire. He’s not considering doing very much but is pulling out all emotional stops to defend his ill-advised illicit invasion and is prematurely preparing to proclaim VICTORY and stay his failed course.

He also swaggers, smiles constantly, gives hugs all around, and otherwise shows his incomprehension of reality. He is like Ted Bundy at his most charming behavior, a sociopath of many dimensions and unconquerable ego just before raping and murdering with utmost brutality. There is even a similarity in appearance with George I.

Bush stopped considerably short of admitting mistakes or incompetence but tried to make up for it by a long neatly typed paper on what he claimed was his strategy all along. In a way he is right. The speech took many of his phrases from the past 3 years and strung them together to declare them a “strategy for VICTORY.”

There was nothing new in the speech. It has been given in slightly modified phrasing during the past 5 speeches. But it gave him a chance to speak again to captive audiences, with high ranking military sitting near him, to assure the public that someone told him that not all Iraqis who resist are “terrists.”

Because Bush does not believe in “artificial timetables” he vaguely mentioned that whenever he wanted to leave with total victory that he would then leave. Today even Tom DeLay spoke to the press and mentioned several phrases from Bush’s speech, like a true loyal sycophant, including “artificial timetables.”

Of course the fact that DeLay is under indictment does not bother him, or Karl Rove, or any of the Republican Senators recently indicted for corruption. All are good loyal sycophants just trying to get along.

We may now expect that the exact phrases of his speech will be used by his entire cabinet, successively and ever so sincerely, on their press interviews. At least they all speak in unison like loyal sycophants should do, and earn their pay, like the “journalists” who don’t like to report bad news but have no hesitation in glorifying George I when he pats a little black boy on the head. His compassion is overwhelming.

Condi Rice is now supposedly going to address the international violations of Bush, including secret CIA jails, torture and abuse, spewing glowing news to the Iraqi press, and other kinds of stacking the deck.

We hope she mentions the accidental cruise missiles that were previously lobbed at Aljazeera, and the ominous reports that even more accidents were planned for Aljazeera.

We know that she is going to mention that the training of Iraqi soldiers is very advanced and that soon American troops will start leaving Iraq. Soon the Iraqis will kill their own people, rather than let U.S. troops have live target practice. Like Bush, she won’t mention any artificial time table, any specific week, month, or even year. But sometime, maybe soon. Whenever Bush in his full majesty and logic says it is time.

Like Bush she stares at the cameras and blithely emits bureacratise to stupefy the audience. Like Bush, today she mentioned that nobody tortures, has secret jails, violates sovereignty, or does anything illicit, illegal or anti-constitutional. She is a true neo-con.

Deniability, misinformation, and dancing like a dervish with the truth are her hallmarks. Somebody tortures, lands planes surreptitiously with captives going to gulag jail, violates all civil rights, but Condi has no idea of whom it might be. It might be that a mushroom cloud has descended on the nation, stupefying the population.

Sure, the Bush fundies believe her and the corporations keep pouring cash into the party treasury, but it is not quid pro quo. No, no, no. Just patriotism. The rest of the nation now gives the Bush warhawks NO credit for honesty, competence, or logical behavior.

But most Republicans, except for McCain, believed Bush when he stared at the camera and very sincerely said about torture and abuse, “We do not torture.” Well, someone sure as shooting was torturing and abusing.

Someone certainly thought torture and abuse was sanctioned by the Chief Executive and Vice President when they refused to let the Senate pass any recommendation stopping the practice.

We wonder how, if Ashcroft and Gonzales told the President that as War President he is above the law and can detain anyone, anytime, anyplace, and hold them whatever length of time suits his majestic criteria, needing no warrants or keeping no records, and that hanging suspects, beating suspects, waterboarding suspects, threatening suspects with huge snarling dogs, is just a college prank.

But, no, nobody tortures, nobody abuses, nobody even gets hurt.

Of course, the simpler explanation is that our President, Vice President and assorted cabinet sycophants lie. We seem to have a hundred or more specimens of ingenious deceit, misinformation and outright lies from the Oval Office. Many specific instances of disregard of constitutional rights can be cited. We know Bush would change the Constitution at any time to suit his religious beliefs, or to legislate some Bible quotation.

We know that Bush once swore he would not intrude his religious beliefs upon the nation and immediately declared a National Day of Prayer, National Bible Reading, Faith-based administration, cheered for the installation of Ten Commandment monuments, and wants to introduce Intelligent Design in our public schools to help “improve” science, logic and honesty

. This will undoubtedly raise our credibility for other nations, and let Jerry Falwell put a big smile on his fat lips as he recommends abstinence as a cure for AIDS. Now we can give up those expensive medicines and go to Benny Hinn for a healing cure-all clap on the head.

Jesus, who is coming to Washington any day now, must be very proud of his saintly disciple George I, who will sit on his right hand, smirking at all the critics who will scream in Hell forever.

That’ll teach ‘em!
