Formal Administration Lies

By Peter Fredson

December 15, 2005

The administration lies have been coming fast and thick recently. The President just made a series of speeches, Condi made a series of speeches, and Cheney made several speeches. Ordinarily it would be hard to keep up with so many speeches, except for the fact that essentially they are all the same speech. In several the wording is identical, from cut-and-paste jobs of phrases that sounded good and suckered some Bush devotees into believing that something was being said.

Each occasion is carefully scripted and vetted. The stagecraft is evident. Flags are everywhere. Large symbols of VICTORY match the previous rhetoric of MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Well, it impressed many people then, so why not try the scam again? The venue is carefully chosen for its friendly hosts.

The audience is carefully screened to make sure that no one is wearing a sweat shirt saying BUSH SUCKS, and any ostensible protestors are kept far away with the greatest security screen any politician has ever had. The fact that the same speech can be reworded slightly to suit different audiences makes it likely that Bush will again repeat his dramatic performance on many different occasions, until his followers are thoroughly hypnotized or narcotized into stupefaction

The openings are duplicated with the names of prominent peoples inserted in blanks. The references to Bush’s heroic actions on 9/11 begin promptly and are repeated several times. The words FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, and LIBERTY are sprinkled liberally, although it is evident that the President has not a clue as to their meaning. But they sound good to his followers, so he will continue to use them, while he further destroys, kills and loots Iraq, and has nearly180,000 armed people pointing guns at Iraqis heads, tossing grenades, breaking down doors, screaming like banshees, and claiming that killing Muslims should not make them or their neighbors angry with Bush.

Remember that “War is Peace.” “Democracy” comes out of the mouth of a petulant egomaniacal dictator who uses extreme violence to get people to follow his “democratic” orders.

In one speech he admitted that he was furnished bad intelligence which led to his invasion of Iraq. He did not admit that he and his cronies had decided to invade several Muslim countries before he even was selected by the Supremes to become President. It will take some mighty force to get an investigation of exactly how the Bush cabinet manipulated the shabby intelligence, day and night, on every known media, dancing their war dances, and demanding immediate invasion to save America from horrible mushroom clouds. Bush did not discuss the Downing Street Memos showing how he and Blair conspired to do their warmongering. He did not mention that he has sent out Condi, a dozen times, to threaten Syria and Iran and irritate them enough to be able to declare war, send cruise missiles, or fleets of bombers to teach them not to monkey with a Texan Cowboy.

In one speech he admitted something that everybody already knew. He said he was “responsible” for the murder of 30,000 Iraqis. Of course he did not use the word “murder”, or even “collateral” but made it sound like the Iraqis stupidly got in the way of his Shock and Awe and somehow managed to get themselves killed. No regret. Heck, he would kill twice as many without blinking an eye, because, as he says “it is worth it.”

The same goes for the deaths of US troops. He made it sound that they died for some noble cause, but never mentioned that their first orders were to seize the oil, the bases, and to import advisors, proselytizers, and mercenaries to prepare for the great neocon dream of world dominion. It would not be nice to tell troops that they would die to steal oil, let the neocon corporations seize Iraq resources permanently, and that he had planned ahead to build a huge embassy, of “diplomats” like Bolton, to threaten the entire Middle East.

The troops behaved the way they were taught. Our quarrel is NOT with them. They are literally “cannon-fodder.” for a careless wanna-be Caesar. The orders come from a handful of neocons in the White House, some corporation offices, and some very powerful fundamentalists.

Most of these cowardly warhawks have never gotten over the impeachment of Nixon, which they regret exceedingly. They now intend to enrich themselves, seize maximum power, and (simplistically) to rule the world. They are well on their way to a fascist theocracy in which all “divisions” will merge into one. Congress is now a branch of the Oval Office, with the Supreme Court being firmly put into the pocket of the President. The way to maintain this framework is to deceive, lie, misinform, stamp everything secret, preempt, use threats, scandal, troops, agents, police, and every form of violence to overcome all opposition. Bush creates and uses terror as a way to govern the U.S.

A good example is to briefly discuss the use of torture and abuse as a legitimate instrument of a moral, ethical, democratic government. While the great majority of Americans are opposed to any use of torture and abuse, we find strangely that the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and a few others want to use it in interrogations of anyone they believe is opposing them. They insist that it be present in their legal arsenals and have used every form of persuasion on our Congress to get the use of torture and abuse approved to help our clueless President govern what was once a democracy.

I think most Americans have seen Bush stare unblinking into a camera when he said “I don’t torture.” This, despite many instances of tortured and abused people, makes people believe that Bush lies out of both sides of his mouth. Bush sent Condi Rice to seduce the Europeans with her Angel of Death tap dance.

She not only denied that anybody had ever tortured, or abused, but that there were NO secret CIA jails, no kidnapping of victims, no surreptitious overflights of sovereign nations with captives aboard, and half dozen other Tar Baby lies. Her new shoes, coiffure, elegant dress evidently seduced a number of European Foreign Ministers into saying that she had convinced them that nobody tortured, nobody lied, no overflights, no captives, no secret jail. Everything nice, everybody happy.

A few days ago when I heard the news of European acceptance of Condi’s lies I was disheartened. I complained that the Europeans must have become stupid, that Hitler must have killed off their thinkers. That Bush must have something to hold over them. I felt that the entire world was going down the drain, with no integrity, and we would all (except for the elite few) become slaves to neocon deceit.

But then today I learned that a number of European nations are actively beginning investigations of all the illegal, illicit, and undesirable practices that Condi Rice claimed did not exist. I know that Tony Blair has already disclaimed knowledge of all such practices, but we also know he was complicit in declaring war on Iraq.

Most Republican politicians do not want any investigation as they know what it will bring up, so they obfuscate, deny, and create diversions to avoid any investigation. We can fully expect more terrorist alarms, several outbreaks of anti-gay violence, God speaking to Bush, and other Rovian distractions. But, we firmly hope, that finally more of the Bush anti-constitutional practices come to light and save our country from sinking into the quagmire they created.

I wonder how many legitimate news sources will follow this story and how many will strive to bury it with trivia or simply ignore it?

Finally, several days ago I heard of a “smoking gun” brandished by Bush. In a meeting with at least 3 Republican leaders, he was discussing renewal of the vicious Patriot Act. He was supposedly contradicted by some one who said that certain parts were unconstitutional, and that Bush reacted violently, dramatically, like a dry drunk, and said in very angry tones, something equivalent to: “Don’t wave the Constitution at me. It’s just a piece of paper.”

I have been surveying all the news sources since to see if anyone had bothered to investigate this story.

I have, so far, only found a number of bloggers who reported the incident. Where are the great reporters who started the fall of Nixon? Is there any “Deep Throat” today? Or will everything be blurred, obfuscated, trivialized, shoved aside, distracted, and ground to dust? If Bush said what he reportedly said, he certainly should be forced out of office as he had sworn, twice, on a Bible held by the Supreme Court President that he would uphold the constitution.

Is he a scam artist?

Surely some patriotic Republican, some committee Chairman, should call for an “impartial” investigation, held by professional investigators, not by politicians. Or, is Bush above any man-made law, have his attorneys immunized him from following legalities, can he authorize torture and abuse as a legal and moral instrument of democracy, can he interpret the Constitution as he pleases by putting Biblical quotations into legislation?

Are there ANY limitations on Bush’s “power”, on his “authority?” Does being a War President, even if he started a war by lies, give him absolute authority to jail anyone without warrant, hold them indefinitely, tap any phone, read any mail, etc.?

It would be good if this were clarified.
