Wikipedia, "duck test", "checkuser" and internet police

Next Monday, Jimmy Wales is going to "talk cyber-civility on campus" at Georgetown, according to a blog of The Georgetown Voice. Now that universities have less money, and Wikipedia is getting important gifts from private societies, students are encouraged to become Wikipedia editors. But what is exactly Wikipedia’s "cyber-civility" ? Wikipedia has developed a full arsenal of internet police vocabulary and tools such as the "sockpuppets", "meatpuppets", "duck test", "check user" and (...)

8 Smears and Misconceptions About WikiLeaks Spread By the Media
By :
Tana Ganeva - Thursday January 13, 2011
The corporate media’s tendency to blare misinformation and outright fabrications has been particularly egregious in coverage of WikiLeaks. As Glenn Greenwald has argued, mainstream news outlets are parroting smears and falsehoods about the whistleblower site and its founder Julian Assange, helping to perpetuate a number of "zombie lies" — misconceptions that refuse to die no matter how much they conflict with known reality, basic logic and well-publicized information.
Here are (...)

From the same country that gave you Stephen Harper adviser Tom Flanagan urging the assasination of Wikileaks Julian Assange on national television, now comes Queens University’s Douglas Bland explaining why the Canadian Colonizer regime can treat members of Indigenous warrior societies as ’insurgencies’ and kill them just as Canada is doing so energetically in Afghanistan...

WikiLeaks: “about 390 Million Google Hits”
By :
Bob Nichols, Project Censored Winner - Monday December 20, 2010
Wiki-Distraction: That is More like It.
(San Francisco) - Today I wondered what Julian Assange and WikiLeaks were all about? So, I did what a lot of people do: I asked Google for the number of hits on the word “WikiLeaks”.
Wow! Google reported “390,000,000 results.” I was kinda stunned. Google “God”
I Googled “God” next. He, She, It polled “532 Million results.” Well God beat WikiLeaks; but, it was closer that I thought it (...)

WikiLeaks saga elicits Censorship & active Genocide Ignoring by Australian Mainstream Media
By :
Dr Gideon Polya - Friday December 17, 2010
Two major features of WikiLeaks are that (1) the leaked cables simply provide documentary confirmation what sensible people had surmised already about the war criminal, genocidal US Alliance and US state terrorism; and (2) the real scandal that neither WikiLeaks nor Mainstream media (MSM) will report the horrendous carnage of 8 million dead so far in the US War on Terror.
Below is documentary evidence of how one of Australia’s leading "liberal" newspapers, The Age (Melbourne), (...)

Pro-US Australian Labor Government threats to WikiLeaks & Julian Assange => decent Oz will Put Labor Last
By :
Dr Gideon Polya - Friday December 10, 2010
Leading WikiLeaks figure, Julian Assange, is an Australian-born Australian citizen (see Wikipedia: ). So far the WikiLeaks releases re Australia have exposed what US officials thought of PM Rudd (“control freak”); Rudd’s advocacy of US war with China and Australian soldiers for war in Pakistan; successful lobbying of the Labor Government by BHP Billiton to block a $21 billion Chinese investment in mining giant Rio Tinto; revelation of secret Australian Government (...)

Wikileaks: servant of democracy, enemy of hypocrites and liars
By :
Robin Beste and Alistair Cartwright - Friday December 10, 2010
Everything we knew about the mass killing, torture and corruption in Iraq and Afghanistan has been confirmed. The world’s leaders can no longer hide the truth by simply lying to the public. The lies themselves have been exposed.
The Stop the War Coalition believes the attacks on Wikileaks are an outrage.
Wikileaks has only served the interests of democracy in revealing the secrets of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which are now irreversibly in the public domain.
Everything we (...)

SUPPORT WIKILEAKS: STOP ASSANGE EXTRADITION
By :
London - Friday December 10, 2010
No wonder Wikileaks is under concerted attack — undoubtedly orchestrated by the US government. The aim is to silence the whistle blowing website, which every day reveals the secrecy and lies used to justify war, torture and corruption.
There is nothing warmongering politicians fear more than the exposure of the real reasons for the mass slaughter and destruction that they carry out in our name.
Over the past two years Wikileaks has proved itself repeatedly to be a (...)

When it comes to Assange rape case, the Swedes are making it up as they go along
By :
James D. Catlin - Thursday December 9, 2010
by Melbourne barrister James D. Catlin, who acted for Julian Assange in London in October.
Apparently having consensual sex in Sweden without a condom is punishable by a term of imprisonment of a minimum of two years for rape. That is the basis for a reinstitution of rape charges against WikiLeaks figurehead Julian Assange that is destined to make Sweden and its justice system the laughing stock of the world and dramatically damage its reputation as a model of modernity.
Sweden’s (...)

Assange Accuser Worked with US-Funded, CIA-Tied Anti-Castro Group
By :
Kirk James Murphy - Thursday December 9, 2010
Yesterday Alexander Cockburn reminded us of the news Israel Shamir and Paul Bennett broke at Counterpunch in September. Julian Assange’s chief accuser in Sweden has a significant history of work with anti-Castro groups, at least one of which is US funded and openly supported by a former CIA agent convicted in the mass murder of seventy three Cubans on an airliner he was involved in blowing up.
Anna Ardin (the official complainant) is often described by the media as a (...)

Within a matter of days, women around the world have mobilized on the social networking site Facebook to organize an international, woman-to-woman milk sharing network. Women today are aware of this fact and are taking their life-sustaining power back into (...)

Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg calls for boycott of Amazon.com
By :
Stephen C. Webster - Tuesday December 7, 2010
The man responsible for what was once the largest amount of secret US government information ever leaked has called for free speech advocates to boycott online retailer Amazon.com over their removal of WikiLeaks from their cloud servers.
Saying that he’s "disgusted" by Amazon claiming a violation of their terms of service for taking WikiLeaks offline, Daniel Ellsberg sent an open letter damning the company for capitulating to public and private sector officials who "aspire to (...)

U.S. intelligence retaliates against Israel’s role in Wikileaks’s disclosures

With Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, continuing their gloating over the disclosure by Wikileaks of classified U.S. State Department cables, the U.S. intelligence community is taking off its gloves and is releasing some embarrassing information about Netanyahu and a Mossad (...)

WikiLeaks Exposes Israeli Mafia’s Growing Influence

Cable reveals Mafia-government connection — But US media don’t care to dig for the story
I love how the pundits are yawning over the latest WikiLeaks revelations: oh, there’s nothing to see here, it’s all so boring, no "smoking gun," so let’s just move right along. These people are just plain lazy: they want "scoops" delivered to their front doors, all neatly packaged and labeled as such. In short, they don’t want to have to do any work, beyond the usual (...)

AS THE PLOT THICKENS: THE STRANGE CASE OF JULIAN ASSANGE

A JAZZMAN CHRONICLE BY JACK RANDOM. DISSEMINATE FREELY.
As a novelist with a penchant for political mystery and suspense, I am familiar with the standard plot twist of the endangered protagonist: If only she can get the information out into the public, she’ll be safe. The men in black can’t touch her then and the world will have to grapple with the truth.
As the plot thickens in the strange case of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks and the man behind the latest (...)

WHY IS JULIAN ASSANGE PICKING ON THE UNITED STATES? - A BRITISH THINK-TANK HACK DEMONSTRATES HE IS AS VAP
By :
JOHN CHUCKMAN - Sunday December 5, 2010
POSTED RESPONSE TO A COLUMN BY GEORGE GRANT IN THE TELEGRAPH
"Why is Julian Assange picking on the United States?"
Had I known what is written at the bottom of the piece - that George Grant is Global Security & Terrorism Director at The Henry Jackson Society, a Foreign Policy Think Tank based in London - I would have read George Grant’s words with less sense of perplexity about the man not knowing what he is talking about.
For clearly, he does not.
But in the United States (...)

WIKILEAKS LEGITIMACY CANNOT BE TESTED BUT THE LEGITIMACY OF THE LEAKS CAN
By :
JOHN CHUCKMAN - Sunday December 5, 2010
We have no way to determine whether WikiLeaks itself is genuine.
But we do have enough information in the nature of the leaks to reach some tentative conclusions.
The leaked material is almost certainly all genuine.
But it is highly selective, a crucial fact.
There is nothing terrible about America and its wars abroad, and any clear-thinking person knows perfectly well there are terrible tales to tell about wars abroad. That is the history of wars.
There is no dirt on Israel or (...)

Real WikiLeaks Scandal: Mainstream reports secret US documents but not 90 million dead from US occupation

WikiLeaks has been closed down world-wide and its heroic founder Julian Assange is facing arrest. Yet the WikiLeaks saga obscures an even more appalling reality that Mainstream media, politicians and academics are remorselessly lying about past and present genocidal realities from the Iraqi, Palestinjan, Tamil and Afghan Genocides to the worsening Global Avoidable Mortality Holocaust and looming Climate Genocide that is set to kill 10 billion people this century.

In my recent article “Ward Churchill: The Lie Lives On” (Pravda.Ru, 11/29/2010), I discussed the following realities about America’s legal “system”: it is duplicitous and corrupt; it will go to any extremes to insulate from prosecution, and in many cases civil liability, persons whose crimes facilitate this duplicity and corruption; it has abdicated its responsibility to serve as a “check-and-balance” against the other two branches of government, (...)
