Never Kick a Sleeping Dragon
By : Timbre Wolf - Sunday May 29, 2011

Never Kick a Sleeping Dragon Bilbo Baggins may be the only person I ever met who got away with waking up a dragon. Of course he had that weird ring that made him invisible when he did it. I knew it would never fit me or I might have tried some slight of hand.  Unfortunately the sleeping dragon at Fukushima was awakened on March 11th and the Japanese were not in possession of the ring.  The Fukushima dragon did not present the world with "the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl" (as (...)

Fukushima - How Many Chernobyls Is It?
By : Bob Nichols, Project Censored Winner - Sunday May 29, 2011
Dr Scampa’s Lethal Doses Count Increases Dramatically (San Francisco) – The world’s second big nuclear disaster occurred at Chernobyl Reactor No. 4 in the Ukraine on Apr 26, 1986. Simply tagged as “Chernobyl,” it is what the next big and well known nuke disaster, after the American Three Mile Island, on March 28, 1979 came to be called. “Chernobyl” ejected 30% of one 192-ton, three-month old reactor core. That’s 57.6 radioactive tons thrown (...)

The severe blow from nature with which the Japanese people were struck with on Friday, March eleventh purportedly took the lives of over ten thousand people while forever altering the lives and emotional well-being of hundreds of thousands more. The need to address the multifaceted nature and ongoing complexity of Japan’s disaster is evident with each day’s news updates. Within minutes after the 9.0 earthquake, northeastern Japan was engulfed by a tsunami that has done more (...)

Note from US Navy to the Japanese: Be sure to wash up with soap and water!
By : Timbre Wolf - Monday March 14, 2011
Note to the people of Japan: Just wash up with soap and water. The US 7th Fleet is the largest forward-deployed US Navy fleet, with 50–60 ships, 350 aircraft and 60,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel. The 7th Fleet was deployed, to assist the Japanese, in the wake of Japan’s extreme weather cocktail of a 33 foot tsunami wave and the fifth biggest earthquake (8.9 Richter) in recorded human history. At a distance of 100 miles from Japan, to the Northeast, the fleet was ordered (...)

January 21, 2010 THE HORROR OF HAITI: WHAT THE PRESS COVERAGE TELLS US John Chuckman It is relentless, the pictures of terror-stricken people, broken limbs, and bloated dead, and many of us cannot stand to see or hear more. There is however a huge problem in Haiti’s limited ability to absorb (...)

Cuba is Missing... From US Reports on the International Response to Haiti’s Earthquake
By : Dave Lindorff - Tuesday January 19, 2010
by Dave Lindorff There are only two US media outlets that have reported on Cuba’s response to the deadly 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti. The Cockpit: Where Custom & Tradition, Technology and Humans Collide
By : Charles Foerster - Saturday November 14, 2009
The Probable Cause summation at the end of an aircraft accident investigation report is the official determination of why an accident occurred. Common threads are pilot error and equipment failure. Beyond structural failure, the clash between technology and humans was evident in the case of an American Airlines flight at Cali, Columbia.1 The third factor is more difficult to identify and document. It is the failure of the system, a situation that does not allow for the full utilization of (...)

The far-right in Ukraine are acting as the vanguard of a protest movement that is being reported as pro-democracy. I’VE DECIDED TO "WASTE" MY VOTE

In a 2004 episode of Comedy Central’s animated series South Park, an election was held to determine whether the new mascot for the town’s elementary school would be a “giant douche” or a “turd sandwich.” Confronted with these two equally unpalatable choices, one child, Stan Marsh, refused to vote at all, which resulted in his ostracization and subsequent banishment from the town. Although this satirical vulgarity was intended as a commentary on the two (...)

HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART IV
Friday 28 September
by : David R. Hoffman, Legal Editor of Pravda.Ru
PART I PART II PART III If there is one major inconsistency in life, it is that young people who know little more than family, friends and school are suddenly, at the age of eighteen, supposed to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, because of their limited life experiences, the illusions they have about certain occupations do not always comport to the realities. I discovered this the first time I went to college. About a year into my studies, I (...)

HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART II

PART I PART III PART IV Several years ago, a young lady came into the college where I was teaching to inquire about a full-time instructor’s position in the sociology department. Even as colleges and universities raise their tuition costs, they are relying more and more on adjunct instructors. Adjuncts are (...)

HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART I

PART II PART III PART IV When The Bill of Rights was added to the United States Constitution over two hundred years ago, Americans were blessed with many rights considered to be “fundamental.” One conspicuously missing, however, was the right to an education. America was primarily an agrarian culture, and education, especially higher education, was viewed as a privilege reserved for the children of the rich and (...)

If there is one universal question that haunts all human beings at some point in their lives, it is, “Why do we die?” Death, after all, is the great illogic. It ultimately claims all, the rich and the poor, the mighty and the small, the good and the evil. Death also has the capability to make most human pursuits—such as the quest for wealth, fame and power—vacuous and fleeting. Given this reality, I have often wondered why so many people are still willing to (...)

How much corruption can a “democracy” endure before it ceases to be a democracy? In several previous articles for Pravda.Ru, I have consistently warned how the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision is one of the (...)

Imagine, if you will, that the United States government passes a law banning advertisers from sponsoring commercials on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show or Rupert Murdoch’s Fox (Faux) “News” Network. A question I’ve frequently been asked since I began writing for Pravda.Ru in 2003 is, “Why did you become disillusioned with the practice of law?” This question is understandable, particularly since, in most people’s minds, being an attorney is synonymous with wealth and political power. I’ve always been reluctant to answer this question for fear it will discourage conscientious and ethical people from pursuing careers in the legal profession—a (...)
