No!!! Capitalism did NOT win! The Soviet Union was NOT Communist except in name alone. Was the production controlled by the workers? No, it was controlled by the government. In short, the Soviet economy was the end product of unchecked capitalism—a la the robber barons of the late century. The American economy, by contrast, contains a LOT of Socialist concepts, like rules against monopolies and other forms of unfair competition, labor unions, etc. Things that level the playing field so that competition can ensue, allowing higher quality products at more reasonable prices, with relatively happy workers. For a better explanation, check out NelsonLeith.com and look at the right side of the screen for the essay "The Free Market Cannot Be ’Capitalist.’" (Sorry, cannot link directly to the essay itself.)
