Americans never really knew how to "think" — they have always been lead by people who have encouraged them not to "think". At the same time telling them that they (the American street) are "thinkers". It is a confused existence and Americans believe it to be a normal state of being.
There are but a handful who can "think" and connect more than one piece of data with another.
