Or a rogue, or group of rogue, agent(s) acting on their own sort of like Oliver North once did?
Even if Americans were involved in the execution, there was, nonetheless, a virulent form of Qutbian al-Qaeda forces who were involved in the plot not because they were being paid but because they aimed to destroy America. That’s indisputable. That’s not grounds for preemptive wars or the "War on Terror." But it is a showcase for Huntington’s Clash of Civilizations writ large.
