> Ahead: Six Decades Of Humiliation

Just for the record, in my view the invasion of Afghanistan was just as unjustified as the invasion of Iraq was. The pretext for Afghanistan was to capture and bring to justice the perpetrators of 911. However, there is solid evidence that suggests bin Laden and al-Queda were used merely as convenient scapegoats for that crime in order to justify that invasion and the toppling of the Taliban regime.

Remember what Bush junior said about bin Laden, "I don’t think too much about him." Does that statement make any sense at all given the apparent reason the U.S. military was sent to Afghanistan? And, how about the destruction of al-Queda? If anything, the "network" has grown tremendously, still operates in Afghanistan, has branched out into Iraq, and seems to have a limitless supply of new recruits ready to die for the Jihadist cause.

Further, the new "Democratic" government in Afghanistan has a U.S. appointed president who can hardly step foot out of Kabul without a formidable armed escort. And, what has been Karzai’s one claim to enduring fame since his installment? He has presided over the revival of the opium economy that fills the needs of countless heroin addicts in Europe and elsewhere. At least under Taliban rule, opium cultivation had been virtually eradicated. Way to go, President Karzai!
