Yes, all during the 50s and 60s the government engaged in a campaign to deceive the American public about the terrible things it had done to the Japanese with their nuclear weapons. As part of this deception the civil defense department circulated phony instructions about how to survive a nuclear war. The children in schools were drilled to duck under their desks and cover their ears and open their mouths until the bombs stopped exploding. Pretending to be educating the public about their chances of survivability which was in truth zero.
People all over the country built bomb shelters in their back yards and stored food for the impending nuclear war with the Russians. This was all encouraged by the government officials who knew full well that no one would survive in their little silly bomb shelters.
Had the films and the photos and the eye witness accounts been made available to the public and the truth allowed to come out, all of the citizens of the world would have known that a nuclear war with Russia would have been the end of life for all on earth.
