"Embellishing?" Try just plain lying! American history texts are such propaganda tools that they serve little historical or instructional purpose at all. There are some great revisions, exceptions, and new additions: "Lies my teacher told me," "I love Paul Revere whether he rode or not," and more recently, "Addicted to war: why the U.S. can’t kick the military habit." I wish they were standard text in all schools.
