antiwar meet in G8

Publie le mercredi 28 mai 2003 par Open-Publishing

Dear Friends from Europe,

(in french under the text)
As we planned in Berlin during the antiwar meeting in the FSE, You Are All
warmly invited to the G8 !

The international anti war coordination has an assembly in Geneva during the
anti G8 protests ;
"End the Occupations ; No to Permanent War"

The assembly at 2pm Saturday 31st May.
(The exact room and adress will be spread soon but it will definitly be in
Geneva.)
The assembly will be preceded by an organising meeting for delegates from
the peace movements in the same venue starting at 11am.

Speakers include Jean Rossio from Switzerland, Nicola Bullard from Focus on
the Global South, George Galloway MP from Stop the War UK, Susan Sloan from
ANSWER in the USA, a Palestinian representative and a representative of the
Iraqi democratic opposition.

The anti-war movement had a huge impact. It was able to convince millions
that it is worth protesting against the New American Century. It was able
to influence many governments, helping to force some out of the war, and
creating a crisis for the British government which rattled even Rumsfeld and
Bush. It provided a rallying point for Islamic public opinion and undermined
the rhetoric of the the "clashes of civilitation".
This huge mobilization was not enough to prevent the war and this raises
very serious questions about the nature of our supposedly democratic
institutions. Now we must discuss the outcome of the war on Iraq, the
possibility of further wars and how to take the movement forward.
We must prevent more wars, continue the campaign against occupations in
Iraq, in Palestine and in Afghanistan and challenge the growing
militarization of all our societies.
The assembly will be preceded by an organising meeting for delegates from
the peace movements in the same venue starting at 11am.

Suggested agenda for organising meeting :
1 The state of the Project for the New American Century.
2 The situation in Iraq
3 The next steps for the movement including opposing the occupations ;
missions ; military bases and the militarization of our societies ;
challenging the international institutions (UN,EU etc) ; international day of
action ; any other ideas.
4 Agenda for the assembly.
