New Yorkers Express Outrage at Murder of Kim Sun-il Korean-Americans Demand Withdrawal of Troops from Iraq

WHO: A coalition of New Yorkers, including members of the Korean community.

WHAT: Rally Demanding Justice for Kim Sun-il and End of Iraqi Occupation

WHEN: Friday, June 25 (5-6 PM)

WHERE: South Korean Consulate, 335 East 45 Street (b/w 1st and 2nd Ave)

New Yorkers will rally to commemorate the death of Kim Sun-il and protest the complicity of both the United States and South Korean governments in his recent murder. Representatives from the Korea Truth Commission, Korean American National Coordinating Committee-East Region, SNAFU, and International Action Center, as well as members of the Korean community in New York, will gather to demand the immediate withdrawal of foreign troops in Iraq.

Recent images of hostage Kim Sun-il begging for his life has put a human face to the insanity now engulfing the current military occupation of Iraq. Mr. Kim?s murder came as a profound shock to all of us. As a city that suffered from the attacks of September 11, New Yorkers understand the loss suffered by the Korean people.

We grieve with the family of Kim Sun-il, and with all those whose lives have been devastated by the ongoing war.

Like most New Yorkers, we remain opposed to the U.S. occupation of Iraq, and along with the majority of the Korean people, oppose the south Korean government’s decision to send further troops to Iraq.

  • SO NOW THAT A KOREAN WAS KILLED, THE KOREAN COMMUNITY WANTS TO STEP UP AND SAY THAT THE US NEEDS TO PULL OUT. UMMMM HELLO, WHAT ABOUT THE 1000 SOLDIERS THAT HAVE ALREADY DIED? THAT IS NOT FAIR. PERSONALLY I THINK THAT IS DOWN RIGHT SHALLOW. YUPP. WHAT ABOUT THE UNITED STATES MILITARY. WHETHER THEY ARE KOREAN OR NOT. THEY DON’T DESERVE TO DIE. NO ONE DOES. OTHER THAN THE IGNORANT BASTARDS IN THE MIDDLE EAST, WHO DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT OTHER PEOPLES LIVES, LET ALONE THEIRS.

    • Hey I am the spouse of an ex infantry guy. To the poster above - I understand
your anger. You feel as tho no one cares about the soldiers. Lets not fight, tho.
The most important thing for us ALL to do is demand an immediate withdrawal
of troops from Iraq. If the korean man’s plea helps to bring an end to this war -
lets honor those who are protesting in his honor. I am frustrated - and saddened -
by people’s apathy towards our troops. But lets join forces - AS NEW YORKERS OF
ALL CREEDS AND RACES - to call for an immediate withdrawal of troops.

NEW YORK CITY HAS THE POWER TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME. LETS HOP
TO IT AND SAVE OUR SOLDIERS & CIVILIANS.
