U.S. seeks to move ammunition from Greek port of Astakos to Israeli port of Asdod in mid-to-late January. :
For Greek progressive activists : From US Navy website : Astakos Bay (Ormos Astakou) is located in the Acarnania region (Aetolia-Acarnania Perfecture) on the central west coast of mainland Greece bordering the Ionian Sea. The bay is open to the SSW. The town of Astakos including a small harbor is situated on the NW head. The Bay is entered between Glossa Pogonias Pt. and Tourkovigla Pt.
U.S. military ships in the past have anchored in the area approximately 1 nm NNE of the center of Karlonisi Island and approximately 1 nm SW of the center of Nisidha Provati Island. Vessels may anchor about 0.3nm ESE of Astakos molehead in depths of 22-24m in mud. The small vessels should reinforce their anchorage means when strong south and southeast winds prevail.
