No Tav : Solidarietà dagli europarlamentari Murphy e Wils

Egregi signori,

Noi membri eletti del Parlamento Europeo abbiamo appreso con grande preoccupazione da alcuni esponenti del movimento No Tav in Val di Susa che parte dell’establishment politico ed economico sta chiedendo di avviare la costruzione della linea ferroviaria ad alta velocità Torino-Lione.

Siamo molto allarmati dalla notizia che le autorità competenti stanno prendendo in considerazione l’utilizzo della forza contro il movimento popolare che fino ad oggi ha impedito con successo l’inizio dei lavori nella Valle.

Il movimento No Tav rappresenta la volontà della maggioranza della popolazione della Val di Susa. Sono state raccolte 32mila firme contro la Tav, incluse quelle di sindaci ed rappresentanti dei consigli comunali di questa area.

Noi sosteniamo questa lotta, condividiamo gli obiettivi del movimento No Tav e consideriamo la protesta contro quel progetto una legittima forma di disobbedienza civile contro una grande opera che non riteniamo essere utile né alle comunità locali né ai lavoratori né all’ambiente in quella zona.

Siamo convinti che il Priority Project 6 sia funzionale agli interessi degli speculatori e del grande business europeo. A marzo abbiamo incontrato qui al Parlamento Europeo attivisti e rappresentanti dei consigli comunali e delle comunità montane della Valle. Ci hanno fornito ragioni esaurienti e convincenti per respingere il progetto del TAV.

Siamo molto colpiti dalla determinazione con cui la popolazione locale difende la sua bella vallata contro un progetto che – a nostro modo di vedere - è inutile e dispendioso. E siamo altresì impressionati da come si battono per un sistema economico alternativo non basato sullo sfruttamento delle comunità locali. Non abbiamo alcun dubbio che il movimento No Tav sia un pacifico movimento di massa che fa pieno uso del proprio diritto democratico di riunirsi e di protestare.

Rifiutiamo qualsiasi insinuazione sul fatto che il movimento No Tav utilizzi la violenza per raggiungere i propri obiettivi. Crediamo fortemente che questa accusa rappresenti un tentativo di gettare discredito su una legittima resistenza popolare. Semmai negli anni passati sono stati molti pacifici manifestanti a essere stati soggetti ad attacchi violenti.

Chiediamo che si tenga conto della volontà della popolazione della Valle e che vengano bloccati i finanziamenti alla Torino-Lione. Esortiamo con forza le autorità ad astenersi da qualsiasi forma di utilizzo della violenza contro il movimento No Tav e a rispettare la volontà della maggioranza della popolazione della Val di Susa.

Seguiremo lo sviluppo degli eventi in Val di Susa con grande interesse e preoccupazione. Faremo in modo che la comunità internazionale sia informata degli avvenimenti in Val di Susa e organizzeremo manifestazioni di solidarietà internazionale qualora le forze dell’ordine dovessero muovere contro la popolazione.

We, elected
Member of the European Parliament have learned with great
concern from
representatives of the No TAV movement in the Val Di Susa
Valley, that
part of the political and economic establishment are
demanding to start
the building of the Turin-Lyon High Speed Railway.

We are very
alarmed by the information that the responsible authorities
are
considering the use of force against the popular movement in the
Valley
that has so far successfully prevented the start of the building
works.

The No TAV campaign represents the will of the majority of the

population of the Susa Valley. 32,000 signatures were collected in the

Valley against the TAV project, including those of mayors and elected

representatives of the city councils of that area.

We support the
struggle and the objectives of the No TAV movement and
consider their
protest against this project a legitimate form of civil
disobedience
against a prestige project which we do not consider to be
beneficial to
the workers, local communities of the region and their
environment.

We are convinced that the Priority Project 6 serves the interests of

property speculators and European big business. We met with activists

and representatives of city councils and the mountain community of the

Valley in the European Parliament in March this year. They have
provided
us with exhaustive and convincing arguments to reject the TAV
project.

We are very impressed by the determination of the local
population to
protect their beautiful Valley against a project that in
our view is a
useless and expensive project.We have no doubt that the
No TAV campaign
is a peaceful mass campaign that makes full use of its
democratic right
to assemble and to protest.

We reject any
insinuations that the No TAV campaign uses violence to
reach its
objectives. We strongly believe that any such insinuation is
an attempt
to discredit the legitimate popular resistance. On the
contrary, many
peaceful protesters were subdued to violent attacks in
the past years.

We demand to take account of the will of the people of the Valley
and
will ask to stop EU funding of the Turin-Lyon High Speed Railway.
We
strongly urge the authorities to refrain from any use of violence

against the No TAV campaign and to respect the will of the majority of

the population in the Susa Valley.

We will follow the events in the
Susa Valley with great concern and
interest. We will make sure that the
international community will hear
of the events in the Susa Valley and
that we will organise international
solidarity should the police and
military be moved against the people.
