Dear Representatives, What The Hell Are You Thinking?
20 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsSenators and Representatives:
I write to you today to ask a simple question: "What the hell are you thinking?"
Not terribly long ago in our history, the occupants of your respective offices at least appeared to be grappling with the problems we face as a nation. There used to be some semblance of reasoned debate on the critical issues of the time. Really good representatives tried to find some point on which they agreed with their opponents to use as a starting point for developing a (...) -
George Galloway speaks on the bombings
13 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsFrom Hansard - House of Commons, 7th July , 4.29pm,
Mr. George Galloway (Bethnal Green and Bow) (Respect): The hon. Member for Pendle (Mr. Prentice) said that it is a funny old world, and that is certainly true with regard to the issue that he raised. I am, I think, a longer-serving Member of this House than he is, and I remember when the Labour Benches were littered with members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Indeed, Members who wear different badges today used then to sport (...) -

13 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
In the months before the 2004 presidential election, a firm called Sproul & Associates launched voter registration drives in at least eight states, most of them swing states. The group—run by Nathan Sproul, former head of the Arizona Christian Coalition and the Arizona Republican Party—had been hired by the Republican National Committee.
Sproul got into a bit of trouble last fall when, in certain states, it came out that the firm was playing dirty tricks in order to suppress the (...) -

“Are we rolling downhill like a snowball headed for hell? With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell... Is the best of the free life behind us now... Are the good times really over for good?”
— Merle Haggard
“For thou are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not sojourn with thee. The boastful may not stand before thy eyes; thou hatest all evildoers. Thou destroyest those who speak lies; the Lord abhors (...) -
Karl Rove Bio - Conservative or Crook?
6 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
14 commentsIt’s hard to imagine how Karl Rove’s appearance could fit his role any more perfectly than it does.
Portly, balding, malicious, simpering, he looks like a cross between Sesame Street’s Mr. Hooper and the Third Reich’s Heinrich Himmler. And he acts like a cross between Heinrich Himmler and Henry Kissinger. Whom he also looks like. And not in a good way.
Oh yeah, he’s a man who compromised national security, putting lives of American agents in danger. Wait, I forgot a word there. What (...) -

Melbourne : Beazley commits to fighting IR reforms
1 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Opposition Leader Kim Beazley says the ALP needs to concentrate on holding the government to account rather than looking inward.
On Thursday, Mr Beazley said he was turning his focus to the campaign by the ACTU against the government’s proposed industrial reforms.
Speaking to a crowd of around 100,000 in Melbourne, Mr Beazley committed Labor to fight to wind back many of the proposed changes.
A rally of similar number will wind through the streets of Sydney.
Mr Beazley’s call (...)
