"There comes a time when you have to turn mother’s picture to the wall and get out".....Brad Dextere, "The Magnificent Seven"
Without a "by your leave", several countries are beginning the slow dribble, pulling troops from the Iraq conflict. Among these is Italy (already gone under Prodi’s new government), Bulgaria,Hungary,Romania (they changed their minds),Denmark and now the redoubtable fighting forces of Lithuania and of course Great Britain. Just two months ago Blair, ever the flippy (…)

Cuba ditches Microsoft and goes open source
21 February 2007Cuba ditches Microsoft and goes open source By Alex Zaharov-Reutt
Tuesday, 20 February 2007
Could it be Castro’s last strike against capitalism? Cuba has decided to throw off the shackles of proprietary software to join Venezuela in embracing open source software – but much like Fidel’s ongoing recovery, going open source won’t be an overnight process.
Open source advocates must be breaking out the Cuban cigars in celebration as the Associated Press reports that Cuba has decided (…) -
BBC reports on US military plans to strike Iran
21 February 2007BBC reports on US military plans to strike Iran
By Peter Symonds 21 February 2007
Despite its menacing naval build up in the Persian Gulf, the US has repeatedly denied any plans for war against Iran. Last Thursday Defence Secretary Robert Gates brazenly told a Pentagon press conference: “For the umpteenth time, we are not looking for an excuse to go to war with Iran. We are not planning a war with Iran.” The statement is another of the Bush administration’s lies.

U.S. Diplomacy Aborts Jerusalem Summit, Shuns Arab Allies
21 February 2007By Nicola Nasser*
Instead of building a diplomatic momentum on the political breakthrough mediated by their Saudi Arabian ally who succeeded in developing an Arab and Palestinian consensus on going along with the U.S.-steered Quartet efforts to revive the deadlocked peace process, the American diplomacy has turned their sponsored Palestinian – Israeli summit meeting in Jerusalem on Monday from a promising event into a missed opportunity.
The trilateral meeting, which secretary of State (…) -

George Soros urges Bush America "de-Nazification" after removal of war criminal Bush regime
21 February 2007Recently (February 18, 2007) the extremist right-wing newspaper The New York Post carried a viciously unpleasant article about billionaire financial wizard and extraordinarily generous Jewish American philanthropist George Soros (he has a stupendous record of giving away hundreds of millions annually to support scholaership and free societies).
George Soros is also a ferocious critic of the war criminal, antidemocratic and human rights-abusing Bush regime and has called for no only the (…) -

"Fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here"
By Dr. June Scorza Terpstra
The tired old slogan "We’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here" is being parroted once again by Democrats and Republicans alike .
Just who are the "we" and who are "they"?
Are the "we" the military generals who need perpetual war to use up old war products and try out the new while making a profit for Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, (…) -

From George Washington to a Broomstick for a President
20 February 2007“[President Bush’s] soul was already closed down!” - Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), on meeting with George W. Bush. (1)
George Washington deserved the title, “Father of the Country.” For eight and one half years, refusing any pay, he led the Continental Army, a gallant force which he helped to forge from the strength of his own stellar persona. After the victory over Great Britain in 1783, Washington, like the Roman General Cincinnatus, relinquished his military command at Annapolis, MD, (…)
